The color alone on this bike is a 10/10. The fact it’s a Haro is just icing on the cake. As a kid in the 80’s a Haro freestyle bike was considered a privileged bike to own. Glad they are still kicking it with a MTB line.
I noticed in the slow-mo at 8:35ish you had the “yank factor” happening. What I notice when I ride my 490mm reach bike, if I have my body position fully center and leaned forward a bit while riding that type of chunk you were riding, the bike does all the work. Anyway, I got on a 470mm reach bike to try it out last week and I felt so cramped! Those trails look really fun! Would love to ride that last trail!
I had plenty of room for extra movement in that clip. It might be the angle that makes it appear my arms are at full length, but my elbows are still bent. I would absolutely not want to be any farther forward than I was. Specifying the reach you prefer without us knowing your height is not helpful...🤷♂️
Lol! Ok, I’m 6’2”. So technically my reach high end range should be 470 max. But…. I have long arms so that’s why a 470 feels cramped to me. Gives me a ton of room to get the perfect body position and R. A. D. angles to suit my riding style at a 490 reach. Yes, you’re correct, with regards to bike fit you should never just rely on brands sizing chart!
I think effective reach can be shortened by adding spacers too. I’m running 40mm of spacers on my 445mm reach bike in my calculation reducing the effective reach to ~428mm according to an online calculator.
Yeah im 5'7 and I could never enjoy riding anything over 430. Like you said, I wana have a bend in my elbows especially going down something steep. I have 35mm rise bars but I wana get some spank spike vibrocore 40mm! Plus I heard they are amazing!! My stem is 40mm, so with my 428 reach my bike is PERFECT for me 😊 I had a blast on it today & can't wait til tomorrow 🤙🏻
My oldest son did a pretty gnarly OTB tumble into the bushes on the second rock roll in the video. 7:07 He was likely 17 or 18 yrs old at the time. Thankfully he walked it off!
agreed upon REACH calculator is: height in cm x 2.5 or 2.55 max. this is how you find a perfect reach. can be dialed in a bit using stem length tricks. example: 5' 10" person is 177.8 cm - multiply by 2.55 for a max preferred reach of 453mm
@@ShadLife after 2018, or the past 6 years of "settling" on modern geometry, bike companies STILL sell bikes with cranks too long, bars too wide, sizing that makes zero sense, luckily the small cottage guys are finally getting to the point of making products the big ones overlook, to this day. for instance: wtf logic is it when a bike in Medium comes with 170mm cranks, and the SAME bike in XS also comes with 170mm cranks.. reach is your height x 2.5 bar width is your height x 4.4 cranks calculators is out there.. for 30" inseam, 155mm is target. although i can manage 160's ^free, proven advice

@mikestivers8302 Not correct! The effective top tube changes based on seat tube angle, but not the reach. Reach is based off of the bottom bracket and thus matters only when out of the saddle and standing.
@@mikestivers8302 Only if you are seated and riding. So a steeper head angle will make the seated position more cramped if you have a shorter reach. For me it's important the bike handles correctly when standing and doing jumps, descents, and other features. I personally don't like bikes with these extremely steep seat angles. They generally steepen the seat angle because they have too long of a reach and then a bike starts to feel too big for the rider.
Is Shad’s recco even shorter than RAD suggestions? The Lee M videos I’ve seen made the same basic point that bike brand size suggestions are too large.
I think I could enjoy a shorter reach bike if the manufacturers would raise the stack heights in the larger sizes. There are brands that have stack heights that are less than fifteen millimeters in difference between small and large
I understand the stack height issue you are referring to. What I don't understand is why do you think a longer bike with a lower stack height is better than a shorter bike with a lower stack height? If the stack height is lower, a shorter bike will feel better. Also, you can always get taller rise bars if the stack height is too low to correct that. I suggest taller bars over more steerer spacers because as you add more spacers you shorten the reach. With higher bars, the reach stays the same. All that being said, as a bike gets bigger that stack height should increase by larger amounts than they currently do.
@@ShadLife The reach increase helps to reduce my feeling that i'm going to go over the bars when my hands are lower than they need to be. I do have riser bars to help with the issue.
@@ShadLife funny that I had to convert that to mm. 30.5 inches is 774.7 wide. Interesting that you like wide bars, but shorter reach. @@leokuo7127 I am moving in that direction. I was riding whatever came stock for awhile and now I started cutting them down. I think I will end up around 30 inches wide which is pretty much 760. 5 5” 390 reach full squish motobecane halboost is PERFECT!
My nukeproof small 430 is a tad too long. I agree 💯 with your opinions.

I love mullets. Safer going down hill and they corner like a gem!
I hope to get to do some good cornering soon. My first ride I wasn't sure I could trust the tires. So far they seem okay though.

It took me some time to get up the courage to do the steep rock roll /drop! I just roll it. I don’t jump off the feature. 13:00
I think what makes me not want to jump off of it or go higher speed is the exit. You have to turn a hard right after it.
