Another thing I would like to add, in order to appreciate one legend there's no need to criticize another legend. Kishore Kumar and Mukesh are my personal favorites, though I feel Rafi Saab was perhaps the greatest .
Greatest in terms of skill alone is Manna Dey without a shadow of doubt. Even Rafi prostrated before him. But, in having a powerful and masculine voice Kishore supersedes everyone. Rafi has that feminine sweetness in his voice that is undoubtedly unrivalled till Sonu Nigam came into action.
He had his own opinions. He considered formal training important and had a different train of thought altogether. He was also envious of Kishore success to an extent, although it's sacrilegious to say so. But we can't deny that classical skill-wise he was superior to everyone even Rafi. In fact, Manna Dey later in his life admittedly said no one in India has a voice like Kishore and was naturally gifted. But he deeply respected Rafi as a person and singer way more than the eccentric and often "crazy" Kishore.
For me Kishore's voice is like fire, volcanic eruption and thunder 🔥 Rafi's voice is like ice, chilly winds and streaming river ❄ Both are assets to our nation
I like both, Rafi saheb and Kishore kumar songs.. Most of their songs are Superbly melodious.. ...we should not compare them each other, they are legends individually, even Mukesh, Talath mehmood, Mannade songs are also very melodious.... I am fan of Kundan Lal Saigal who is extraordinary melodious singer and Guru of all singers...

The sign of a true & genuine artist is respect and admiration for all who love the art and are an important part of it. Both Kishore & Rafi were divinely blessed artists and great persons also. Their songs used to touch our hearts for the same reason as they were good human beings and such persons are much higher than stupid comparisons, rivalry, jealousy and such negative thoughts. Only the insecure persons who know that they don't have enough genuine talent are affected by those things. Moreover both had very different style and voice. Rafi was a senior artist to Kishore Da. I call him the Badshah of Indian music and I always call Kishore Kumar, the King of Indian music. Both ruled and both will remain in the hearts of their die-hard fans forever.

I can bet that no singer could sing "Madhuban me Radhika nache" or other classical songs of Md. Rafi like him or even close to him.

Each one of them actually complement each other ( not compete ) and make our cup of joy complete. We should raise our level of understanding them and not resort to petty politics. Another thing I would like to add, in order to appreciate one legend there's no need to criticize another legend. Kishore Kumar and Mukesh are my personal favorites, though I feel Rafi Saab was perhaps the greatest .

Greatest in terms of skill alone is Manna Dey without a shadow of doubt. Even Rafi prostrated before him. But, in having a powerful and masculine voice Kishore supersedes everyone. Rafi has that feminine sweetness in his voice that is undoubtedly unrivalled till Sonu Nigam came into action.
He had his own opinions. He considered formal training important and had a different train of thought altogether. He was also envious of Kishore success to an extent, although it's sacrilegious to say so. But we can't deny that classical skill-wise he was superior to everyone even Rafi.
In fact, Manna Dey later in his life admittedly said no one in India has a voice like Kishore and was naturally gifted. But he deeply respected Rafi as a person and singer way more than the eccentric and often "crazy" Kishore.
For me
Kishore's voice is like fire, volcanic eruption and thunder 🔥
Rafi's voice is like ice, chilly winds and streaming river ❄
Both are assets to our nation
I like both, Rafi saheb and Kishore kumar songs.. Most of their songs are Superbly melodious.. ...we should not compare them each other, they are legends individually, even Mukesh, Talath mehmood, Mannade songs are also very melodious.... I am fan of Kundan Lal Saigal who is extraordinary melodious singer and Guru of all singers...

Its foolish to compare legends. The artistes we had at that time Rafi sahab, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar are all incomparable in their own way. Each one was super talented and have carved their name in the history of popular music.
It is a very sad thing that nobody talks about Mahendra Kapoor though there is not an iota of doubt that Rafi Sahab was miles ahead of everyone.......

I'm, like millions of Indians around the world, a fan of Rafi Sahab. But I respect Kishore Da too. And listen to Da's songs as well. But Rafi Sahab was the humanity personified, Godly voice and an ideal human being and a perfect singer, who could sing anything.
All of our former stars like composers, lyricists, directors and of course star actors from 40s to 50s till 1980 find in Rafi Sahab a farishta, a saintly, humble human being. It's a great injustice to all music lovers of India and people who live by fairness and gratitude that Rafi Sahab hasn't yet been awarded Bharat Ratna honour. By bestowing this honour on Rafi Sahab, award's glory and esteem will rather increase. He richly deserves it more than worldly and fallible Lata Mangeshkar or any of our today's politicians. The sign of a true & genuine artist is respect and admiration for all who love the art and are an important part of it. Both Kishore & Rafi were divinely blessed artists and great persons also. Their songs used to touch our hearts for the same reason as they were good human beings and such persons are much higher than stupid comparisons, rivalry, jealousy and such negative thoughts. Only the insecure persons who know that they don't have enough genuine talent are affected by those things. Moreover both had very different style and voice.
Rafi was a senior artist to Kishore Da. I call him the Badshah of Indian music and I always call Kishore Kumar, the King of Indian music. Both ruled and both will remain in the hearts of their die-hard fans forever.

Md. Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar had three different styles of singing. So we should not compare them. But Md. Rafi had a solid background of classical music which none other singer had or has. I can bet that no singer could sing "Madhuban me Radhika nache" or other classical songs of Md. Rafi like him or even close to him.

All the yester year singers - Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, Talat, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, etc. ( and Lata, Asha, Suraiya, Shamshad B, Suman K, etc. ) are like the colours of a rainbow. Each one of them actually complement each other ( not compete ) and make our cup of joy complete. We should raise our level of understanding them and not resort to petty politics. They are also like stars shining high above us. Throwing stones at them will result in the stone falling back on our head. So please ...let us all sit back and just enjoy listening to their songs.
