- Tony de Capua (alt. spelling Decapua) kills 7 family members and a neighbor after becoming despondent from being unemployed
De Capua (42) was an out-of-work steel mill worker; it appears his unemployment was the motive behind the mass murder. On September 3, de Capua used a revolver to shoot those in the home, including six children. As the bodies of the fallen were scattered throughout the house, it was surmised de Capua had chased his victims to gun them down.
Police arrived on the scene and injured de Capua during a shootout. He was arrested and committed to an asylum, with the condition that he be tried should his mental health improve. The last information regarding de Capua involved multiple attempted suicides, so it seems he was never released from the asylum.
Killed were his wife Mary de Capua, daughters Elizabeth (11), Anna (7), Maria (6), and Catherine (2 months), granddaughters June (23 months) and Gladys May (3 months), and neighbor Ferdinand Goodwinski (53). He wounded his 24-year-old daughter-in-law Gladys de Capua, bystander Gavriel Grigorsida, and police officer Leo Tyrell.

What a tragedy, so sad that they all lost their lives. I lost my job on a couple of occasions but it never entered my head to shoot my family. Just shows what the brain can do to individuals. RIP to the mom and children🙏. I do hope they are at peace. Thanks again Lamont 👊👍🇬🇧🇺🇸

“De Capua” is an Italian surname, which effectively means “of Capua.” Capua is a region on the Italian peninsula that dates back to the Romans, which was known for it’s large amounts of arable land.
The pronunciation is “Cap-ew-ah.”
Seems a lot of Italian names are derivative of where they (family) were born. E. G . Leonardo DeVinci.

Looks like the street my mother grew up on in Dayton. Two-thirds of the entire neighborhood homes are now gone, including my grandparents' house, and what's still standing is all in bad shape. Job loses and industry reduction has been impacting the rust belt Midwest for quite some time now, including in the sad tale told in this video...

This is horrific. People lose their jobs all of the time but it does not give someone the right to take out their entire family. Thank you Lamont as always for telling these victim's stories. When the signs are there for mental illness, people need help to prevent future tragedies like this!!!

Such a horribly sad story. I did find photos of him in a hospital bed, and photos of his kids and wife, and an older son who was not home at the time. I also found a photo of their house. These were all on Google news archives (free) and on Ancestry (requires paid membership to see). They had to have police guard the house for some time because of souvenir hunters. Tony de Capua tried killing himself twice in the hospital. Once he smashed a glass on his head and tried cutting himself with it, and then he tried hanging himself. He was found not guilty because of reasons of insanity and placed in a psychiatric hospital. Not sure what happened after that, I can't seem to find anything about his later years. Very well told Lamont. Thank you.

According to an article I just read Concetta Infante is the mother of Mary De Capua, grandmother and great-grandmother of the children. The bodies were taken to her house at 739 Delaware Ave, Youngstown where they remain until the funerals, the house still stands
