    Alexander Grischuk is not just a grandmaster (ELO 2500+), he is a super grandmaster (ELO 2700+) which puts him in an elite division. In fact, he holds 12th place in the world be ELO rating in classical chess.
    And yeah, that chess playing robot is scary. A robot similar to this broke a boy's finger some time ago in Moscow.

      He absolutely knows he's being funny, he might not be trying very hard because he's mostly speaking truthfully from his heart and that's part of his deadpan delivery. But he's 100% being a wise ass as in he's in on it. You can't be a 2700 super GM and not at least be self-aware, even Chuky knows how others perceive him. People such as them just don't give three shits 'cause they don't have to.

He then kept many habits from that time, long after his father passed away. You can read more on that in his autobiography titled "The way she goes"
