Haha! A lot of Eric and Yuka in front of the camera this week. Nice change of pace! I still watch despite lack of POV, Eric, so don't rush your healing process just to try and get video content. I'm healing from a clavicle break myself, so let's take the time to heal right. BTW, I noticed last time you seemed a little frustrated about the pace of healing. What is your age and do you think that is a factor in healing time? I am 54 and definitely healing more slowly than I used to.
not exactly. You see this suspension is an equivalent that in automotive industry is called trailing arm. A trailing arm doesn't care of up and forward or up and backwards in terms of suspension plushness and comfort. The only thing that matters, is where the main pivot is. If it is in the front of the wheel axle, then it absolutely does not make any difference if the wheel extends to the back or compresses to the front. Absolutely no difference in plushness what so ever. I see a mistake in the answers above. If the wheel travels up and backwards , the wheel is extending, there for pedal kickback is much more than it is with moving up and forward. This is because when the wheel extends, it pulls the chain with it, so pedal kickback happens. If it moves forward, closer to the chainring, it doesn't pull the chain with it, thus resulting in no pedal kickback. This old basic single pivot design bike we see in this video, is the proof of that. It needs an extra pulley to prevent pedal kickback because it is extending the wheel (up and backwards). And another thing. Pedal kickback only occurs to a stationary bike , so...only for expedition purposes as you realise, a moving bike doesn't suffer from this imaginery problem that marketing is trying to put down our throats by force.
@@ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣΓΚΕΡΛΕΣ I would argue that pedal kickback isnt so much a thing as limiting the suspension action when you're standing on the pedals keeping them level.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions about high pivot. I know some of those where questions I had about the platform and how it would work.
Yeeewwww! I made it into the questions!! I’ve been drooling over a Druid frame in the Cosmic Eggplant to build up. Such an amazing looking bike and everyone who rides them just gushes over the performance.
they gush just to self justify the price they paid for it for getting fooled by marketing youtubers. After all , it is a single pivot bike. How much of a gushing you think can someone give for it?
ive had my eye on the druid for a while now, the problem is that i saw that prototype and dont want to buy a 130mm travel druid for them to then bring out a bigger one afterwards, so imma hold out until they eventually release the bigger travel. hopefully soon.
I bought used bike 2017 gt sensor carbon expert with fox 34, 140 mm of travel and it was 1700€. I have it for like 1 year and it works perfectly. So i think you can save your money and buy used bike.
Back in the early 90s Cannondale made a full suspension frame. It was called the EST (Elevated suspension Technology). It looked very much like this frame....
Awesome video! We really do have so many great choices now a days that it can be a little tough when your picking out a new bike. The only downside I see so far with the high pivot system is with having to buy two chains, other then that the bike sounds like it rides really well.
I saw a guy with a Druid at my local mtb park and I asked him if you had an influence on him getting that bike and he said that he watched some of your videos and made the decision to get it off of your experience
Do you have the vespers or onyx originals? Im currently building a druid over the winter and plan to run nobl wheels with onux hubs but nobl themselves kinda recommended going hydra over vesper as the vesper has been finnicky since it came out. I would prefer a quieter hub so hopefully you can shed some light on the vespers if you have them. Thanks! Love the vids!
Have you seen Lewis Buchanan’s channel? He’s racing on the Druid and is an absolute beast on it. He smashed Fort Williams at full race pace and it was nuts!
Lol same on my new bike I can climb with the shock in descend mode. Well there's only pedal bob when I'm in a low gear , I think that's just because I'm bouncing around when my cadence is too high. Suspension geometry is really important. Both Polygon, 1 pedal bobs so much I lock it out on flat ground sometimes , I have to climb in 1st to 3rd gear. The other I can leave in descend mode and climb in 8th to 11th. Pedal bob is probably the biggest issue for me actually, because I use my bike for transportation as well.
These look so interesting and well made however I notice these for sale on FB pages a lot recently. Given their respective rarity that's noteable and maybe they're not working for some people. I'd love to try one though.
Agreed. I'd have a tough time committing to such a radical bike change without a test ride. Hopefully once this COVID thing is over I'll head to Vancouver Island and see if I get demo one. Heck, even with more normal looking bikes I would want to demo one before dropping all that money on a new one.

Hi pivot bikes have been around since the 90's. Its not a new design. Brooklyn Machine Works and the off shoot Superco then Zeroed, and now Comencal and Norco DH versions . I would argue to say it was brought to attention by Nicholas Voulouz and his suspension preferences.
How do you guys judge speed for gap jumps? I've just built a 5 foot double and I'm questioning my speed. I've hit bigger jumps, but none that I've built.
How does high pivot compare to other multi-pivot suspension designs? My understanding is that DW-Link is intended to have a similar wheel path to what you describe for high pivot.
single pivot with high pivot placement has been around for ages. infact it is the simplest and earliest design of single pivot ever made. These bikes are a major single pivot comeback. This is how everyone, all of a sudden , will forget why they ditched them for multipivot frames in the first place. I guess in reality , the single pivot wasn't as bad as marketing hypes made it to be.

I imagine with the high pivot it's more forgiving of casing as the wheel moves up and back rather than up and being forced forward.

100%. It's very forgiving if you mess up.
Yeah and pedal feedback is virtually nonexistent..

probably the simplest explanation of a high pivot system on a bike, thank you
At 5:34 you can see where the rear triangle has rubbed against the front triangle. That isn't good.
Really keen eyes there. Well spotted. I'd be pissed at that happening on a frame. Indicates a fair amount of lateral play.

As with the Commencal HP system more parts equals more problems.
Work really well when new but very expensive when things go wrong, which they will.
In terms of the 2 chains you can use just 1 ebike chain. They are the same you just get 136 links instead of a 112 links on a standard chain.

Ya, that's the question I wanted answered. Does the wheelbase shorten up when you're on the brakes or does a slack head angle counter that tendency?
it is a single pivot , so brake jack will always be present , it requires riding adjustment
