It's an awesome logo, although the having it italised to show motion didn't sit well with me, contrary to what Will said. I think that'd go well with a track type sport not something that's strength-based.
Logo looks great! Saw the dumbbell and closed fist as described, but also saw an 'L' and abstract 'T' at the start and end (maybe unintentional) but the wordmark both 'LIFT' and 'IT' could maybe have different weights, two separate shades or outlined. One reason is the word 'Lift' could be seen as doing the work so an emphasis could reflect that. The other is the word *'TIT'* stands out (maybe that's just me 😆). Excellent work overall! 👍
8:07 to small lines for me in the new Logo. Every car has a badge of their brand. And the new logo would be a bad option to print in 3D. And some people like to make gifts or logo-lamps etc.. But i like the font much better. :)
in the "poom" it's not exactly the overshooting problem, as all the letters are rounded, so if all have overshoot it's as if none had. Though the radius of top of the m is smaller than the radius of o or p, so "poo" should be overshot in regards to "m", but actually the opposite is true, the m is higher than the rest. I think the bottom is more important, as the legs of the "m" have a much smaller radius and should be significantly shorter...
I knew WIll's voice sounded familiar and I have figured it out. It has a touch of Kermit in it and now I cant unhear it and I don't know if thats a good or bad thing
hey will, can u make a content video about making logo presentation who consistent and memorable? i really appreciate if you want to make it.. thank you ☺️♥️
Your better off explaining the optical compensation with a Square Triangle and Circle. Honestly going into Fred Smeijers, Gerrit Noordzij, Adrain Frutiger will just confuse people.
Around 8:57, you mention not showing the logo and only in black and white if so. Is this for the initial presentation to a client? At what stage would you show the logo / include colour? I am about to start the process of creating another brand identity for the company I work for and am keen to know
@@willpatersondesign ah i think i misinterpreted what you said after relistening, you said you would never show the logo JUST in black and white. thanks!!
Liking a logo isn’t enough, will. As a fanatic of Mazda and the history that built the company, that Mazda redo is pathetic. The logo does not capture the crips, clean, determination in design that Mazda has built their brand on. Did you know that the Mazda logo symbol stands for Mazda's determination to “pursue ongoing improvements to drive powerful, continuous growth”? Round and wavy absolutely do not convey this. Just looking at logos and basing good or bad off of that is teaching poor practice in design. I can no longer condone.
You do realise it’s just for fun, right? Like Mazda won’t be taking on the logo that someone made for fun, creative purposes? Similarly you don’t need to know the entire history of a brand to like or dislike a fan-made redesign, because it’s just pretend?
From the thumbnail as mentioned in the video, saw the similarities with Meta instantly. I would say redesign should have a context 'why this logo?' I've personally self-initated projects based on this principal, one of which is 'Screwfix' (as the company's use of fonts faces look terrible imo) and the other in 'American Film Institute', as their 1991 redesign I feel is problematic in some cases. Whether my end results were successful in someone else's eyes is up to them, but I can at least explain my reasoning if asked.
I'm sorry to reveal this to you now, but most of the old Mazda logos were round. What about the wankel? Rotary piston engine? As a Mazda fanatic, you must know that the second logo was even completely a circle? The first font in that logo was also round and wavy. So basically these things unite the modern and classic times of Mazda. The only thing I don't like here is that the logo itself has lines that are partially too thin to reasonably make fan merchandise and that it could be an XBox controller.
Hope you guys enjoy the video! Which design did you like the best? :)
The Mazda one is really good 😻
Hey Will,
Mazda Logo is really good. But it's kind of similar to New Mahindra Logo.
Mazda for sure!
I made the Liftit logo. Thanks for the amazing feedback, Will. ❤️
Luv from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Amazing! Well done!

I designed the poom logo. Thank you so much, Will Paterson, for your critique.
Mazda logo is the best one❤️
Nightride is like a road for me😅
The redshot one reminds me a lot of Pain Gaming, a Brazilian e-sports org
I'm the designer for that Foesta logo. Really appreciated for the critique.
Great work Tredaus. Lovely logo concept. 💯 I learnt a lot from the breakdown. This is an amazing experience, Tim mate.
Nice job! Thanks for uploading to the subreddit :)
thats awesome that the first one was from omaha! I live here now & am new to design!
Welcome aboard!
Omg that was my design! Thanks Will!!! 🤩

I don't think my audience will find it confusing :)

Very cool video along with some very nice work.
Would you mind taking a look at my content and give me some pointers?
