That broken foot is a bummer. I broke my right foot the spring on my senior year in high school. It changed my job assignment but I was able to keep driving using my left foot. This was when bench seats were popular. I was driving a 67 Chevelle . I have often thought with todays cars with captain chairs with middle consoles that it would be next to impossible to do it in today’s cars. God bless and keep filming! We enjoy ALL of you adventures.

Some years ago I broke my right ankle in three places scraping ice from my car windows. Most painful thing I've ever experienced and had a cast for ten weeks. Doc told me to walk on it as much as possible to speed the healing - great advice. Out of necessity, I also learned within a week to drive with my left foot, then eventually with both feet. You'll do the same. Sitting around isn't an option for someone as active as you.

There’s been a couple times through the years after watching Chris jumping between boulders on mountains that I commented to be careful. I was worried for the guy since he was out by himself and jumping around like he was still 20 years old. Then a tree root jumps up and gets him. I’ve got a few years on him and I’ve made those mistakes. Thank goodness he wasn’t alone!

I was just gonna write the same thing. I've watched Chris jumping 5 foot down many times and always cringed. I lower myself slowly even on 3 foot drops now that I'm in my 40s and I was competitive athlete in my 20s and 30s. I know I'm getting old and now take no risks. Just like him, I'm alone in wilderness. Chris still behaves likes he's 15 and it's scary to watch.

    • @notreallyme425

@@troutjunkie7330 I know we all sound like a safety Sally, but something happens when you turn 40. Things hurt when you wake up and they just don’t work like they used to. Chris is usually pretty well prepared but I think he’s going to learn from this one. Like I said thank goodness he wasn’t out in the back country and had help nearby.

You’ve got a hell of a spirit, Chris. May your health return soon and your spirits stay buoyant.
(PS. The amount of precaution necessary to have kept you 100% injury-free would have negated the adventure entirely. In your line of work, and in your case specifically, [to beat the dead horse] adventure is a foot. (We all love to say it!) I hope you don’t do any “woulda shoulda couldas.”
Vermont in the summer is a wonderful place to get waylaid. I spent a summer in a rental along a creek in Jamaica VT some years back. No billboards, lots of general stores well-stocked with Ben & Jerry’s. I hope you find a place and get some time to recuperate.

The good thing about this hopefully is that it will make others aware of the importance of hiking with someone else or having a means of communicating for help and to have a walking stick. I sprained my ankle 50 feet from the house and can't imagine what I would've done if it happened all alone in the woods 3 miles out. 127 hours comes to mind. One thing for sure, an injury like this will change your hiking forever, it did for me.

Hi Chris! I know from personal experience how hard it is to stay positive when something like this happens, so I wanted to share my experience to help lift your spirits…. I shattered and dislocated my ankle mountain biking a couple of years ago, days before we were moving to a new home/ town and right after I interviewed for a new job. It was incredibly stressful not knowing how it would all turn out, especially not being able to work. I learned during that time how wonderful people are and am grateful for all the help and generosity that was directed my way. It all turned out well. I hope your healing experience is smooth and quick. Best of luck to you.

I've been there myself twice. 2012 I had a incident severing my left big toe few months to recover. The hard part I'm full-timing in my Scamp trailer, tow vehicle manual transmission Jeep. Second one I bought some land and was on ladder it slipped. I landed on ladder left ankle went under ladder. A painful drive on broken / crushed ankle injury to get medical attention. Following up with few months recovery about 4 years ago. New Jeep is a automatic transmission just in case.
So you can make it work out, thankfully you got Shannon too. Or she's got you. I hope you have a good and fast recovery. Life happens. Many RV camps will work with some situations too.

The problems with dealing with an injury like this is getting it identified properly. If its a strain/sprain your local emergicare/ER can treat it. If its a fracture/break they will stabilize/First Aid but then refer you to a specialist. They won't set or cast it.
