    Real-talk: Thermite is used to destroy ASSETS for the military. It burns at 2000 C. It's heat-dispersion is immense and drops by roughly 50% every foot. That said, it should NOT take 4 thermites for a tank if one can melt a 6 in hole through steel. Bugs should boil and pop under the pressure of their internal fluid rapidly expanding into gas. Bots (like the hulk) should be reduced to slag within four seconds.
    Game talk: How does the IN UNIVERSE TOOL TIP say that THIS THERMITE burns 2000 C, but then perform like you are throwing boiling water onto someone? I get for game balance but going black (all expended) on grenades to kill something, or going red (at or below half) and using a supplemental weapon SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE. If a single stun grenade can effectively shut down a bot drop or patrol, a thermite should shut down a high-value target with ease. Hulks get stunned and lit up via autocannon, sniper, EAT, quasar. But then you switch to thermites and get less consistent results than an impact explosion. Really makes you wonder

    • @arczer2519
      @arczer2519 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      well the way Thermite is used in game is pretty inefficient, primary penetrating/melting power of the termite grenade goes from top to bottom due to direct contact with the mixture, heat transfer to the side is vastly inferior unless in confined space.
      effect of the grenade itself is also pretty localized.
      Still it should do a lot of harm if you land it on the top of the target, dealing far less on the flat side and next to nothing at the bottom (in fairness grenade should just fell off, as thing holding grenade to the target would just melt off)
      Entire design of the grenade is just strange, as actual anti tank sticky grenades either use sticky squash head or are attached directly HEAT warheads.
      especially given the in game Thermite grenade somehow explodes after burning up completely, with would imply the was core somehow survived baking in the highest temperature

      As a Combat Engineer myself, when I heard we were getting Thermite i was salivating at the fact I can role-play even more effectively as one. Man, was i disappointed. I still like to use them for special bot structures and enemies. With the engineering kit, you can get quite an impressive sparkler display, with the same amount of destructive force as our real-life sparklers. I wasn't even expecting them to kill enemies outright, but given the description, I was expecting that it would burn holes through heavy armor. I still have my Carl Gustaf to fulfill my engineer needs for now.

    • @norrecvizharan1177
      @norrecvizharan1177 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably just another tool of theirs that has inefficient engineering behind it. But at least it's not as inefficient as the sentries, as the upgrades that improve ammo capacity, durability, and turning speed are literally just attributed to "hey, we just applied super glue, packing peanuts instead of springs, and some extra lubricant". So they're basically going from being cheap at construction to....being slightly less cheap, really.
      It's either that, or they make a bold claim without it actually being the case, much like how they say democracy can guide your aim 'n other stuff.

    Am I missing something or doesn't this effectively make it a worse impact grenade? Good impact nades will instantly kill Devastators in a single hit, tanks in two, and wipes packs of Berserkers. It seemingly can't manage Hulks and I've not tried tank turrets, but I'm not sure if the tradeoff is worth turning a the "instant kill, work on something else" button into "15 second kill, pray you don't get killed during that". Maybe if one burned a hole in Hulk armor that allowed medium pen weapons to work it'd rock, but this just feels like a downgrade to my understanding.

      Oh I did miss something - the Striders changes things 😁

    • @Steir12
      @Steir12 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Impact grenade explosive damage can't penetrate medium-heavy armor while thermite can. You can throw 20 impacts into hulk face and it will be fine. However just 2 impacts will be enough to blow up tank if you aim at the went. With thermite seems like both DOT and explosive can go through any armor the damage numbers aren't even remotely good however. it's pretty much "Yo i hear you looking for the worst possible way to deal with heavies? Gotcha pal"

    • @OhDough
      @OhDough  หลายเดือนก่อน +44

      impacts don't kill tanks from the front unless it's the gattling tank. thermites taking 1 nade and being a side shot is a big deal. thermites killing tank towers in 1 use is also a big deal. they're niche but useful based on build and real close to being a solid pick with slight changes

    2:22 what is somewhat new is that they made it so bile titans take way less damage to the face during the acid spit, basically their "face" moves behind the forehead armor, making weapons deal regular body damage.
    This was introduced to make bile titans less likely to KO themselves with splash damage from acid if they hit a surface close to the head, which inadvertedly nerfed their main counters.
    Now you have to wait for titan to stop puking in order to deal full damage.

Just lower the AV of the target over time allowing weaker weapons to damage it. Then it'd actually be a really solid pick over stun grenades instead of competing with impacts which also just have way more utility regardless of damage (clearing crowds quickly for example).

    but you didn't show what the effect is against weak points on chargers or titans.. hitting a charger in the tail or running beneath a titan and hitting the belly of the beast with a thermite... how much damage does that do? also. can thermites be placed on the ground and the spark be used as a dmg point?

    I feel scientifically thetmites should be the strongest as they get upto 3000 degrees and melt through anything with the chemical reaction. The accurate way in game would be it sinking into the enemies bodies, exploding them from inside.

    • @arczer2519
      @arczer2519 หลายเดือนก่อน

      theoretically yes, practically their damage is very localized and focused in top down path of the melted mixture, if stuck to the side effect would be far smaller (assuming the spikes holding the grenade to the target wouldn't just melt off before target has been breached) and to the bottom it should just fell off
      its the reason why they're used as demolition tool and not in actual combat, beside being added for some incendiary bombs due to it ability to ignite more resistant materials

    The fact that thermites can only ever really work on one target, you'd think they'd at least do a lot of single target damage. But impact grenades can do the same job with instant damage, *and* can take out multiple targets at once. I think of these like impact axes in Deep Rock Galactic: they do a lot of single-target damage (with a tiny AoE, too, for taking out multiple chaff enemies) and you get twice as many impact axes as you do most other grenades (you start with 8 in DRG, whereas you normally have 4 when using other grenades), in order to make up for the fact that you can only really hit one target with each one. You can also throw them really fast to do a boatload of nurst damage.
    Meanwhile, what does thermite do uniquely that no other grenade can at least match, while also providing other utility?

      @@mrROAR104 I imagine you're basing that on axe cancelling to kill things like frozen oppressors in less than a second, in which case I still don't think they're the best bar none, simply because it's accomplishing something that other grenades aren't trying to do. I also disagree that they're nowhere near balanced, but this isn't really the venue for that discussion.

    The reason common consensus for thermites is they're shit is due almost entirely to the stupid DoT bug. Also because most people are absolutely atrociously bad shots in the game, and thats with bullets traveling hundreds of meters per second- and not slow ass, arcing grenades. Its a very narrow hitbox, you *have* to hit the weakpoint with it or it won't really do very much even if you are the network host.

    Fire damage and fire DOT are two separate things. I've been discussing the fire DOT changes that will need to be made to the flamethrower after the fix happens with someone on Reddit, and they were confused when I said that napalm SEAF, napalm eagle, incendiary grenades, and incendiary mines needed to retain their fire buffs. They were thinking fire damage was straight fire damage. They kindly went and tested to see if flamethrowers actually did anything when not the host and sure enough they are capable of killing things. So fire damage and fire DOT are different and counted differently. How so, I'm not sure. Arrowhead never releases stats on those things.
    I'm also going to swoop in here with the technical term because being a treadhead, it's killing me hearing you say, "Other tank body part thing." It's called a hull. You can blame the British for that. The first tanks to be created was in Britain and was them correlating efforts with their navy to keep it covert for a while. That's why in tanks with a machine gun sticking out of the front of it, that's called a "hull mounted machine gun," and the assistant driver who's firing it is also termed as the "bow gunner." Tanks are weird in that they use a hybrid nautical and land based vernacular. There's the turret mounted on the "hull" with a "bow" and "stern". There isn't port and starboard, but they never call it the body of the tank. The "hull" of the tank sits on a chassis, but the chassis is not the "hull." really weird stuff, but just for next time you need to sound like you know what you're talking about; there's the turret with the gun and then the hull with everything else.

      2 thermites on the side and 1 anti-tank. it's just a math equation of sorts but it's kinda hard to get precise numbers without testing. afaik eruptor doesn't have high enough pen to damage the side of a tank. it can get the very back of it and the back of the tank turret.

    Here's a thought: Some turrets get one-shot (Fact strider turret has 900hp). I think it's because they're their own entity and so take fire damage, while if you target the head of a bile titan or charger that's not the main body so it doesn't get lit on fire. Not sure what would be considered main body for these. There's so many hit boxes involved. Hulks main body is actually their main body, but flamer hulks are immune to fire. On tanks if you're going for the body, try not to hit the tracks.
    TBH all bodyparts ought to take fire damage.

    2 nades on a bile titan sounds amazing, but you have to get into very dangerous range of them, opposed to support weapons, most of which hit reliably from safe distances.
    The refill rate from supply packs is also pretty bad, especially with a team.
    Going with thermite, instead of e.g. stun or impact means that you don't have a safety option for tight situations, that take out a lot of bugs in a short amount of time.
    I feel like the way support weapons, granades and encounters are balanced, most other granades are just more useful.

    • @arczer2519
      @arczer2519 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it should focus on one, else you're just wasting space in grenade
      the thermite mixture generates and transfers the heat to material most efficiently and it travels in top to bottom path, spreading it around would just make cool-off quicker, which is less than ideal when you're trying to melt through something.
      also somehow explosives being able to survive entire burn duration in the hottest part of grenade.
      only time when thermite is used in explosives is for incendiary mixes due to its ability to ignite sturdier materials.
