I think most people want one thing: An update. Not on the game, but just an update on what’s going to happen to Starscape, one video that says your either going to work on the game or are actually currently working on the game, or leaving it for dead would suffice. I’d rather know it’s 100% being left for dead rather than us not really being sure if the game is going to be left to decay. One short video saying your working on it, or not is all I and probably some other people need. Edit: Thank you for the update on the discord.
Seconded. I don't mind him taking a break, or taking back control of development, but I do mind the four months of total radio silence. It leaves us with no idea of what his plans are, if or how new updates are coming along, and makes it seem like the game's been abandoned. I really do want to have faith in the development of this game but four months of silence with no update since April 2022 makes it hard. I've been playing since alpha, before warships and ore grades and spice, and have loved seeing how far the game's come, and it breaks my heart how much this looks like the end for Starscape.
Extremely late but if you didn’t know, he is currently not working on the game. The game has become more of a job than a passion. Even when he does get some time and motivation to work on the game, he has pushed it aside simply because of unsolvable issues with current Roblox technology. Although I believe there are many things he could update the game with before tackling on the more difficult and unsolvable problems, all we can do is leave him be for now. He has said that IF he does start working on the game again, he will provide an update
I think the break you guys have taken has rooted out all the players that don’t have faith in the dev team and now only the true fans will remain and enjoy the experience you guys provide. Thank you!
This comment is painfully ironic, did you and the people that liked this comment even watch the video? Keth is telling you there is no longer a dev team. How you have faith in something that does not exist is beyond me.
sadly starscape is dying, its a great game but you really need to have mastered the grind set mentality to enjoy the game truely so i hope starscape doesnt end up dead like so many other good but more complicated games
Discovered this game almost right after the development stopped. Playing it was certainly an experience, and it feels far more detailed than most space games on Roblox. I, as well as many other people, hope that Starscape is going to have a major update, or any update at all. Though, we all might have to wait a year or two for an update to our favorite children's internet space lego game.
For anyone who is not in the discord, there was an update on April 1st, 2023: Hello, everyone. Sorry to get your hopes up by lighting up the dev blog channel; there isn't actually much news to share here. Just wanted to acknowledge the current date and mention that I had considered doing an April Fools update as is tradition, but it didn't feel appropriate given the circumstances. Catch-22 sort of situation. I would not have had time, anyway. Many people have been asking for information about the state of Starscape. I have hesitated giving additional updates because very little has changed since my last video. There has been essentially no development progress. I know this isn't what you all want to hear, but I find it best to be honest so that people are not waiting around for updates that may not come. While I still want to want to work on Starscape, I have not had it in me to do so lately. Working on Starscape became more of a job than a passion--I had hoped the desire to work on the game would return once I was not depending on it for income and I was far enough removed from the stresses of moderation and community issues. But my penchant for programming in my free time is just not as strong as it once was. I have had sparks of inspiration, at times. Right now a lot of my hesitation to continue comes from an understanding that a lot of issues with Starscape (namely server player count and large battle stability) are fundamentally unsolvable using current Roblox solutions. There have been stirrings of hope for these sorts of issues--streaming tech just got a substantial upgrade, for example--so maybe things will get better enough at some point that I will be inspired to pick things back up. It's hard to tell. If and when development resumes in earnest, I will let you all know.
I'm glad to see you getting back onboard Keth, i hope, that whatever changes you make will be great for the future of my favourite game in all of roblox, and even more, starscape might be my favourite game of them all, good luck to you!
im actually very glad about this, the reason i initially joined starscape is not bcuz it was an incredibly polished or perfect game, but because of its strong unique direction and cool systems, and keth is the one who made it that way not anybody else. i hope he continues to change and update the game in the ways that he sees fit.
Proud of you for making this tough call. From way back in 2009 when you did Keth Shipyards until now this vision of creating an engaging space game has never died, not will it die. You're doing the right thing by taking a step back to look at what you're carving, painting, building, creating. I know that even though other people may look at it as some space game for kids that it means more. It very well may be someone's inspiration and motivation to learn coding, or pursue engineering, or get involved in a career in the space industry or sciences. For that reason alone I think it's a great legacy to leave. To inspire fun and creativity in others is never a wasted effort. 🙂 -See You Space Cowboy
@@vse7327ust because he said that doesn’t mean it isn’t the end, it’s been 9 months now of nothing and by removing the staff team, though for understandable reason, he’s only made it harder for work to start back up, imo he just said that because he didn’t want to believe he was ending the game but in reality through his actions he has, unless things change. Though we still have 3 months until it’ll be the anniversary of this video perhaps something will happen then
Ah... I just discovered this game & found the channel... I'm sad that you abandoned Starscape. It's a gem... I was hoping to see updates because it looked cool until I saw the last update being in April 2022. Not gonna lie I've never seen a Roblox game, of all things, look as polished as it did. It made me redownload eve online lol. Good luck in life, sir. It was a pleasure enjoying the game for what it was even in beta stage. You got some talent, and I bet one day you can make an actual game that's really amazing. Roblox is a small fish compared to your full potential.
@@sfloon9006 this comment is 3 months old, you know that, right?. And I have no idea what all he's made. Frankly I don't care. I cared about starscape hence the comment.
Ethan, I'm going to have to say this and I'm sorry for being brutally honest. Having been there since the alpha days of the game, the one thing keeping the game active and alive was the community, through the highs and lows, through feedback and criticism, the best thing about the game was having a large, CONNECTED community of players, factions and clans. By you shutting down the server you have indirectly killed the game. The only thing keeping the game well active, you completely destroyed it. Putting it in lockdown was useless, you archived nothing except the eventual downfall of the game we ALL had hoped would prevail and succeed.
Hire new devs to work on it for you, and you can take on an overseer-esque job to approve their ideas and changes. Don't let a game that people love die because you can't work on it, let it become something great. It's a free money machine too.
@@zolarketh Zolar, i love your game, i still play it but please PLEASE tell me if you are officially going to add some new updates, did you abandon the game? are you taking a huge break? must be hard updating a thousand servers, please answer
On the topic of hope and the community: Keth, whether or not you still read this comment section or not, I don't know. I do hope you see this, and if you do, perhaps you might even be so kind as to give me a heart ❤️ or a like. I am sure you have things going on in your life and that's what should rightfully take priority. I honestly wouldn't have even considered leaving this comment under normal circumstances, knowing you probably get a bazillion similar messages daily. However, with each passing day, I fear that Starscape is getting closer and closer to that brink, that point of no return, from which the size of the player base might not ever fully recover. If this was purely a content issue, I assure you I wouldn't have left this comment. Alas, the player base, the life of the game seems to be slipping away, and this is not so easily fixed once it has taken hold. At times I have seen the concurrent player count drop as low as 7, a stark contrast to the game a few short months ago. As it stands, I believe this decline is still fixable, although this is much easier said than done, for a plethora of reasons, not the least of which are the issues you mentioned in your discord update. The most straightforward way of stopping this decline would be to have regular updates. That being said, this is not feasable for you, as you have already made clear. Thus, the next best option might be to have infrequent minor updates. Consider it a battery saver mode of sorts. Firstly, I would like to establish that, if you believe the community needs a grand update, IE: playerstations or whathaveyou, this is not the case. If you have it in you to create even small non functional updates, like the canceled April fools, or the residential station Christmas updates, any of these would greatly help boost hope in the community and stem the loss of players. Allow me to elaborate further that the main reason for the declining health of the playerbase (and by extension the game), is not directly attributable to the lack of content per say, but to the diminishing hope in the community that Starscape might return in any fashion to your attention. The situation might be roughly analogous to the drowning mouse experiment, where a mouse rescued from drowning treads water for up to 240 times as long the second time. And while this is not a pretty way to think of it, indeed, giving the community that hand hold, that light at the end of the tunnel, will give you more time in the long run to do as you see fit. On a personal note, I am a person who finds it very hard to motivate myself to do something if I am not feeling it, even if that thing is important. In essence, I am a burst worker. While this might not be exactly the type of struggles that you are dealing with, I do know exactly how it feels to at rock bottom, with no inspiration to do something that I normally enjoy. At times like that it seems that the only thing that can get me off my ass is the threat of something extremely negative happening should I not act. Currently, Starscape might be seeing its final months as an enjoyable community game, and as a long time player this deeply saddens me to see. Asides from myself, I am sure there are thousands of other players who have collectively put years worth of time into the game, not to mention yourself as well. If you were previously unaware of, or just out of touch with the deeper problems facing Starscape and the community, I hope this message is able to shed some light or gives you some amount of motivation to keep Starscape alive.
If you do end up killing the game, and if you're comfortable with the idea, then I'd suggest open-sourcing an older version, like pre-EotP. That's what widgeon did when he killed Aegis, and it worked fairly well. The community might keep SS alive. If you're comfortable with it, I mean. It's your decision. Best of luck to you, keth. You're doing good, lad.
Why would he end up killing the game though? Starscape is still in beta though the older version have less features though the codebase has gotten too big for that to happen though.
That's what happened to Aegis? Man I must have been out of the loop. I thought that game was pretty fun but there weren't that many players when I joined
I'll be honest, this big of a project might not be something 1 person can handle all by themself. I think this is more of a problem of roblox being a shite platform, and the game lacking solid management from above. If you do manage to pull this off and revive starscape, then hats off to you good sir. Keep us posted
Im so happy to see that youre coming back full force solo. Hopefully all of the planned stuff that the team has been working on gets out sooner rather than later. So glad to be part of the game and the in game community!
I respect and support you taking control back such that development is more fulfilling for you and hopefully better for the game, and taking (even long) breaks for your own sake. That said, as much as I want to have faith in the development of the game--and I really do, I've been playing since Alpha and it's amazing seeing how far it's come--4 months without any kind of development news and 10 without a game update really just makes it seem like it's been abandoned. Even if updates are far out, could the community have some kind of reassurance that this isn't the end for Starscape? Jan 2024 edit: WE'RE BACK BABY LETS GOOO
i havent really kept up with the community or your youtube but i genuinly think starscape is the best game on roblox, the amount of work you put into that game makes my day honestly, whether you want to pretend like its starwars or just want to have fun, starscape is just fun. and i really, really wish you would update this game with a big update, thats all, but thanks, thanks for making this game
To be honest, huge respect for doing this, it takes a lot to make these hard decisions and drastic changes, but I do think it's for the better, since like you said, the factional structure in a semi-permadeath game makes it extremely difficult for beginners to get into, and imo at the moment the only actual endgame content there is faction combat, which has in this case resulted in lots of drama and toxicity. Overall tho, I hope that these changes such as shutting down the discord allow you peace of mind whilst you work, and gl with whatever you need to do, or decide to do in the future.
Hey man, I still see you reacting to some comments on here so I would love to add my own. Starscape as it is right now is amazing. After not playing for a good while and replaying it again, you have already made an amazing game, even without any of the updates that you wanted to add in the future. The biggest issue with player retention is not only because of development reasons like delayed updates, its mostly because of the platform that it resides on. Roblox players have an infamously low retention rate. Even when gifted with this full and amazingly well made game, they always want more content, more updates, and more things to do. A year long wait for an update is seen as quite normal in other gaming rings, some even taking multiple years to fully release. Yet when this game did not get any updates for near a year now, its seems to be all but dead. Even then, you had built a community that did not mind the wait, did not care much for delays, and was in my opinion very well banded and very kind and welcoming to newcomers. Even though I feel like it would not happen anytime soon, I wish you would reopen at least parts of the discord server for us again. I have seen this statement echoed time and time again, but Starscapes popularity was not only because of the amazing game, it was also partly because of the amazing community. And giving us the ability to converse with eachother in one centralized hub will in my opinion likely lead to a way happier and more retentive playerbase. Even if this game will never release an update again, being able to easily speak on game topics, help and teach new players, and generally being a well grouped community again will likely lead to a way longer, maybe even a forever lasting lifespan. I hope you're doing fine whatever you're doing right now though, and if you've even read through all of this, thank you for your time.
I think it's dying not because of the long wait, but because he hasn't made it perfectly clear whether he's going to update eventually. He said he'd go back to solo dev work, but we haven't gotten updates on how that's going. It's unclear, and it seems like the dev has abandoned it. The players will then also do the same. Starscape isn't like games such as tf2 where it's all replayable. At some point, you've done everything, and there isn't much else to do. That's why Starscape needs updates.
The problem with people making unoffical communities is that they arent discoverable in starscape there isn't some shout feature and the servers in starscapes are very small. So its really hard to join one of these servers without a central hub and even now I think its way too hard to find server.
@@kulesama3185Bro up there is referring to new players just entering the game and even other older ones aren't going to just wantonly join random servers
Right -- but the moderators had to work full-time jobs, basically for free, for a game with 200 concurrent players. This was a huge sacrifice, especially when they should have been going to college or working jobs with actual wages instead.
This game is truly magical in its own way. Such great potential. I really hope you make the correct decisions regarding this games future. I was so lucky to enjoy this game in its prime.
The one thing i would like to ask for if anything gets done is a update that focuses on single player. Maybe some special missions or goals that you would have to complete as a single player by yourself or enemies that give chase through the wild. I think some updates that focus on single player abilties would help keep the game alive in your absence. I mainly ask this because the player base is dying. Theres not as much to do without the player base there keeping things alive and making things interesting. Going into the wild and being found by someone was thrilling and terrifying if you had a lot of materials on you. Now you can go through the wild for hours and not see a single person so that thrill isnt really there anymore. You can visit gatinsir and majority of the time nobody is there when it used to be the most deadly place in the game. I hope life goes well for you and gives you time for your hobbies. It sucks having to cut out things you love because there isnt enough time to focus on them.
@zolarketh the community will always love you for creating this game , we all just have it in our hearts wishing you will someday reignite your passion for developing this game, everyone knows how great your vision for this game is and can do nothing but hope for your return.
please give us an update on what is going on. i want to know if the game isnt dead and im sure the rest of the community does too. he actually gave us an update on april 1st, which said he doesnt have motivation to continue to develop the game right now.
Its been ten months, and still radio silence. As much as its not my place to assume or decide, i'm pretty sure that Starscape will never be getting another update. Personally i wish this wasnt the case but its seeming more and more likely as each month passes. Goodbye to everyone who is still here, it has truly been a Starscape.
@@miffclick3358 not to sound like a dick but if he cant do it, atleast fuckin tell us hes given up bro cause saying ur still working on it at this pace will be an endless task
It's a serious shame you made this decision. This game had amazing potential and it sucks to see it killed off like this. You don't owe the community anything, but at the same time I think it would have been a good idea to completely hand off development to somebody else. You say it would be a lot of effort to oversee stuff like that, but having a new developer/owner without any oversight from you would be better than no development at all. If you truly have no intention of continuing Starscape, you should probably convey this to the community. I know it's been over a year, and you have a life that is now far more important than Starscape ever could have been. Whether or not you ever decide to touch Starscape again, I wish you the best.
Kindof sad he doesnt care about starscape anymore. He used to work on the game fulltime but he gave up before it could reach its potential. The game lacked the crucial long term progressions for factions, and failed to deliver on the player stations for solo progression.
Finally, a comment that's actually being respectful about this 😭I'd been thinking the same thing. So hyped to see it possibly making a return though. He made such a good solo dev, new management just wouldn't be the same :)
By not updating us, announcing nothing, showing us no progress and putting the discord server into a view mode only, will only bring the end for starscape and its community. You said this is not the end of starscape but you are ending it with your own hands. At least post a video or make an announcement in the discord server, just show us that you are still working on starscape.
Extremely vulnerable to random permanent shutdown in this state, but its better to keep the remaining developer sane than to let everyone shout at them as they rework things
coming back a year later I just want to say that all we want an update there isn't a day that goes by where when i'm in the citadel i see someone ask if the game is still being worked on. we just want an update on how things are going and if the game won't see anymore updates that's fine but we would rather know for sure.
I’ll be dead honest, I’m one of these starscape exploiters, and I’ll admit, there’s some work that needs to be done, the anti-cheat is pretty damn good, but there’s a bunch of loopholes that Jack, a few others and I were willing to point out. And I don’t know about others, but I still enjoy this game , this is in my top 2 of space games. So I would be glad to make pointers and give up some of the code that the exploiters used. Hopefully I could be of assistance to you with the anticheat. We love you, we want you to prosper and go above and beyond. But please take care of yourself in the process.
The anti-cheat has accused me of exploiting on a monthly basis and I’m convinced it’s going to permanently ban me for playing the game normally at this point.
@@miffclick3358 its not about the profit he would make for it, people just want it to have an actual dev team. if he abandoned the game, thats fine, but people just want an honest answer. if he really abandoned it, he should give it to people who actually care
Apologies for sounding rude but TLDR; Keth feels bad about losing control over his game, after having people start to work on it. Even though he took a months long break and will actually resume development at a "later date". Also feels bad for manipulation? because people like being a part of his game and working on stuff or believes in his vision. Also will close the discord since he doesn't want moderation anymore. Even though, "if" this game has another resurgence another main server will form and have all the same issues.
Man, just take back control of your game ! You’re the professional guy in the team ! I know life is always hard sometimes here and there, but dude....one thing you have to know is if you have a passion, DO NOT give up all. There is nothing wrong about slowing times to times, but remember that not only it is your passion...but many other players has this passion when they see your great work. Nobody can decide for you, but i wish that Starscape is never gonna die and will always rise up again even after down moments because there is nothing wrong about having hard moments. Life is full up and down like we say ! But give up all is not really an option when it is especially your passion !
Whether what has happened these past few months is good or bad, I’ll leave up to you, but we can all agree he did a bloody great job with this game in its peak
I still have hope for the game even after almost a year, I’ve waited longer for updates so even if there is no one left when the dust settles, I hope the game even after it fades to obscurity rises up one day
man the galaxy and starscapes community are complete opposites.... rcouret is often never online and rarely responds and makes both controversial and big updates keth is always online doing something, always responding to staff and community.... making neutral and small fixes
Keth, if you are still reading these then you probably know that the 1 year anniversary of this video is coming up. All we want is signs of life, a travel blog, a discord message? not necessarily a yt video.
Is the game currently broken? it is really hard to find info right now. I tried to play it for the first time in I believe years, and it crashes whenever I click the ingame start button
>Game spirals downhill >Only programmer and lead developer has a life and other priorities to take care of now, disappears for months now with minimal progress >Junior programmers offer to help speed up development >Lead programmer offers them positions >Promising future on development, modeling team consistent on work >Lead developer lets the entire team go to solo everything, months of work from modelers sent to the shredder Chad Keth move, 100% top decision.
Please give an update if your working on the game or not, like another comment said, we'd rather know if you've paused development or just working in silence. Otherwise, people will get negative opinions and think your game is fully dead.
Hey man. Hope you are doing alright. Like just in general feels like nobody in the community has heard off you in months so i just wanted to send some well wishes.
i recently checked out of starscape testing server after a year, and i gotta say its a shame that the game was abandoned when it was, the update keth was working on looked amazing, its really a shame what happened and i have started playing on an alt again, and its actually really fun still, even with much less players than before. I do believe that its possible to revive the game but it will definitely die if nothing happens.
As an Alpha player, I'll be honest with you. You should do whatever is good for you first because your wellbeing and your mental health should be a priority. But without updates and the community to keep the game up, the game dies... plain and simple. I remember playing in a big faction back when factions were the main way to play the game and I remember the factions being snuffed out due to lack of things to do. I think the game will never not be toxic by nature, but killing off factions will not really prevent toxicity. All of that being said, good luck to you and good luck to all the players that still play, I hope you guys will have the great experience I had having played the game for as long as I did. Edit: Starext was the true mvp of the community, 100% underappreciated and underrated.
Ah a passion project as a hobby to be worked on in your own free time? Understandable. I now know and can see why updates will be rather rare. One dev to another.
sorry i dont got alot of time but does that mean the games not getting updates anymore or is he taking it slower cause i noticed it hasent had one since april
Unlikely, besides, there are plenty of reasons for not building one, especially considering the many things that have been ignored about the current designs.
After watching him saying he closed the discord due to toxicity, i went on the corp server in the general chat. And i see that keth is absolutely correct. First messege i see is someone hoping a random person loses his college application, and another is someone asking another person to end themselves, and a bunch of passive aggressive comments

I don't know what it is with roblox space games, every game I have played has the same issues with a toxic community, especially when factions are involved.
Well all the comments seem real negative right now, ands I'm sure you're seeing them. I just want you to know that there are some of us still patiently waiting, getting on with our lives, but coming back now and then. When you do decide to update, we'll be around and hopefully some new players too.
This is a very meaningful video, and i think the sentiment is great, but its not fair to just annex those people. They contributed so much, now they’re gone from something they helped create.
if this leads to something good, i'm in maybe that's just my hope of what we once had 2 years ago speaking, but i don't care anymore keep going keth! i'll be in the community as long as i can, whether i play or not just something i wanted to add: can you please make an older version of the game from like, 10 or 11 months ago avaliable to the public? maybe even something from 2 years ago, i just want my old lego space game back either way, hope this goes well for everyone here. time shall tell, hm?
When will you come back, I was tired of waiting, I made 3 Yukon and I laid 3 different turrets found all of them, the only thing to do is waiting for an update
Made a good friend with starscape: Really love this game and its amazing! i always found the community helpful, nice and friendly. and you all have made it look really fun and all and i made a really good friend like i said.
i love this game and i play it every day now. played it with a old friend that i no longer hold relations to (I cant talk to them as they blocked me) but i hold really really good memorys within this game
Hello, everyone.
Pretty much, Starscape is dead. There will likely be no more updates.

Exactly this, if the server was still alive, the game would be too.

On the topic of hope and the community:
Keth, whether or not you still read this comment section or not, I don't know.
Take your time. We'll be here. Looking forward to the future of Starscape!

That said, as much as I want to have faith in the development of the game--and I really do, I've been playing since Alpha and it's amazing seeing how far it's come--4 months without any kind of development news and 10 without a game update really just makes it seem like it's been abandoned.

i havent really kept up with the community or your youtube but i genuinly think starscape is the best game on roblox, the amount of work you put into that game makes my day honestly, whether you want to pretend like its starwars or just want to have fun, starscape is just fun. and i really, really wish you would update this game with a big update, thats all, but thanks, thanks for making this game
I don't think he should do any big update. Just at least bug fixes here and there, and open back the community server, that would help a lot.
If you want to find unofficial servers there are people posting invite links on the official server before its going read only
@@kulesama3185Bro up there is referring to new players just entering the game and even other older ones aren't going to just wantonly join random servers
The point is that it's no longer a legal liability for himself or Roblox.
@@WaterFruitTree okay and now? This is true doesn't mean the moderators weren't taking care of it though.

Also feels bad for manipulation? because people like being a part of his game and working on stuff or believes in his vision. Also will close the discord since he doesn't want moderation anymore.

The last update has still been 8 months.
This is a very meaningful video, and i think the sentiment is great, but its not fair to just annex those people. They contributed so much, now they’re gone from something they helped create.
if this leads to something good, i'm in
maybe that's just my hope of what we once had 2 years ago speaking, but i don't care anymore
keep going keth! i'll be in the community as long as i can, whether i play or not
just something i wanted to add:
can you please make an older version of the game from like, 10 or 11 months ago avaliable to the public? maybe even something from 2 years ago, i just want my old lego space game back
either way, hope this goes well for everyone here. time shall tell, hm?
When will you come back, I was tired of waiting, I made 3 Yukon and I laid 3 different turrets found all of them, the only thing to do is waiting for an update
Made a good friend with starscape: Really love this game and its amazing! i always found the community helpful, nice and friendly. and you all have made it look really fun and all and i made a really good friend like i said.
