@@MatthewTheWanderer not exactly - красная икра (red caviar) is perhaps the most common caviar in Eastern Europe/ex-USSR because it's not nearly as expensive and comes from salmon. LOL, the first 5 min really cracked me up! The 'visa process' for Turkmenistan you described in the beginning? - US Visa is pretty much the same thing for most of the non- Western countries!

I just got to the part of the video where they said transportation is heavily car-dependent. That's not that different from America's transportation either, though some places are changing that slowly, you'll find that everywhere in the country was basically built with cars in mind. I live in a semi-rural area, and I have to either get someone I know to drive me or hire an Uber to get around as my street doesn't even have sidewalk and I don't drive. I actually am not a fan of this myself as it's somewhat inconvenient, but I'm an outlier as I know I just can't drive. I guess the equivalent in Turkmenistan would be to hire a taxi since, you know, no social media. But I'd imagine it's similar to our old fashioned taxis that some areas still have.

However, it's not that easy to get the visa there and it's not uncommon to get a rejection for your visa application. Mate, Darvaza Crater has been top of my bucket list for many years (since I was 15). I've still never had an opportunity to go there (or even to central Asia in general), but your video motivated me so much to actually start properly thinking about it :D I also know there are so many other things to see in Turkmenistan, and if I ever get to go there, I'll definitely not lose all the time just to see the crater. I will meet the locals and I will make as much of the trip as possible. Thanks a lot for a great video and a motivation boost!!!

Great video. loved it. I'd like to point out one thing that the difficulty in visa process faced by you is how it's like for more than half the world. Any non-western person applying for visa be it for europe or USA it's that difficult. Even students don't get visa easily.

TH-camrs always labelling Turkmenistan as 'strange' and focus too much on its bad side. However, Barbs gave an open-minded presentation of how it is a thriving, normally functioning society.

11:15 One thing I'm noticing is that there is at least 1 major discontinuity in the rock, where at some point in the past a layer of rock was eroded away (above water?) before new sediments got deposited (below water?).

That's it, we demand a Geo Go episode moving forward! This vlog makes me want to go to Turkmenistan myself! My favorite, though, would have to be your interactions with the Alabay dogs, with the first one even showing its belly to Barbs! Animals just get drawn to people with kind souls, and you definitely have one, Barbs! 🥰🙏🏻🇹🇲
