📌Welcome! Who is Diana Ankudinova?
Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Height: 1,70 m/ 5,7” ) She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage.
There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started …
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions.
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to TH-cam and soon she had millions of fans. She is our goosebump
The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship.
Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is.
She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. (Juilliard similar to GITIS) She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own work soon. ❤ Greetings from Germany

Not only is Diana a Dramatic Contralto, she is Polyphonic. She can sing in separate notes at the same time. Listen to the last two phrases of this song; you can hear two different notes in her voice that she's singing!! I don't know of any other female singer who can do that.
I've heard Altos and Contraltos(rare voice)but Diana is in a class of her own, especially considering she can get up from Contralto to Mezzo so quickly and powerfully. The most unique vocalist in music now.

Diana breaks all vocal stereotypes, she happily uses her entire range with her music. She's not afraid to try an hit the lows, she sounds best there to me. Yet her higher tones (that she's been working on) make me think of a mythical siren with a voice that just commands attention.

Please go back a few years - try Rechenka (14yo - this one is spectacular, truly a remarkable experience) or wicked game (15yo) to start then follow through the years until now. Diana is amazing and has so much to enjoy from pop, country, folk, rap, ballad, dance, ethic, traditional, swing, contemporary and classic.

Did you notice the guy standing up on the top tier who was almost in tears? That is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears? Yes, she is18 and that is very early in her development, but I think she is a true contralto. As she matures, I hope that she will develop into a full dramatic contralto. She does have an operatic sound in some sections but doesn't focus on opera. If she chooses to go in that direction, I think opera houses around would love to have her perform with them.

I recommend going back to her Rechenka, a truly unique performance she did when she was only 14. Also, Wicked Game (at 15).
You hit every nail in the head with your analysis, indeed she is a contralto and she is more comfortable in the low notes but she is working very hard to expand her vocal range.
Every performance of her is something unique, if you are that amazed at her age she will blow your mind when you hear her younger performances.
You should listen more of her even if you don't make reaction about it i mean she is an experience not a singer.
In order to go forward with Diana, you need to travel back in time when she was 14 and 15 and on a Russian show called You are Super for kids who had a very difficult childhood. Diana's story and success will melt your heart and bless your ears. Enjoy.

You should go back to her spectacular performances when she was 14-15 years old. She had a full blown powerful adult voice then as well. Rechenka is Russian Folk and spectacular. Her Wicked Game cover is mesmerizing and jaw dropping. Right now she is 18, still a teenager. Diana is magical.

She has been taking vocal and singing lessons for over 13 years and has amassed an immense volume of works as she has been growing her natural abilities and talent. Loved the reaction, would sub if i wasn't already a sub. :) Love the quality, that you first listened the song and only disected it afterwards (indicating that you also intrested in the
performance, want to experience it as you should, and then do your analysis)
The only thing I missed was a few words if there were any emotion you personnaly felt experiencing the performance, you shared your professional opinion, and what your mind says, but a few words from your heart, from your soul if it was affected at all would complement the video perfectly. Like when a skilled person tells technique how a painting was made, about the compostion,
but holds back what's her impression, feelings when looks at it. (I'm not native in English, so i try to communicate my thought multiple ways for better understanding :) )

Diana's Past, recommend checking some of her earlier performances, believe me when I say they are sang by a kid but not sound like one.... ;)
She is singing since little child, auditioned for Voice Kids at age of 13 but got no votes (20M+ views on her Jodel time attempt making it the most viewed audition of any non chosen performer).
Then at age of 14 her "You are Super!" era started: they made a show for kids with tormented background, where they made funny, beautiful performances, like sailors dancing around them, etc.
Then Diana entered, with a voice of an Earth goddess. And since the crew was highly professional they did excellent job giving her the opportunity to shine. She took it,
won that season (Season 2), and the season 3 (Super Season where the best returned) at age of 15.

Welcome to the world of Diana Ankudinova! To answer your question about Diana's vocal range, in 2017, her range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, her functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. Diana was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn". This cover of the Elvis Presley classic "I Can't Help Falling In Love" now belongs to Diana and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound. In particular, the quality of Diana's tone, timbre, roundness, and the depth of her voice along with her resonance, further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which in itself is also a very rare talent and it's defined as a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds to her harmonic overtones that make it appear like two different voices at the same time. This polyphonic sound is why some people believe she is using autotune, a voice synthesizer, a vocoder or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing. There is nothing artificial going on at all that is manipulating Diana's voice in any way. What you hear is all Diana Ankudinova.
And as you know, the majority of female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age and I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she reaches her full vocal maturity, and when she does with more years of voice training with her voice teacher plus more years to hone her on-stage performance skills, there can be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold on stage and a vocal force to be reckoned with. “Diana Ankudinova, A Russian National Treasure” (My opinion), I have been following her for a while. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Wicked Games”, “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful.

Diana has won over 40 National and International competitions and won two years in a row on the show “You are Super” for orphans and under privileged children. Could you please react too to The Crow ("Ворона") - Диана Анкудинова in "Rock hit" category. Many people think this is Diana's one of the best performance to date. She managed in 3 minutes to make a demonstration (without being ostentatious) of all her vocal possibilities and skills.
Diana was currently participating in a very ambitious NTV show "ShowMaskGoon" ("Шоумаскгоон") shot in Mosfilms studios with Virtual Reality sets. The sound was recorded live.
Why "ShowMaskGoon"?: The NTV channel produces 3 other singing competition shows (You are Super ", The Mask" and "SuperStar") the winners of these three shows participate in "ShowMaskGoon which is a kind of superfinal which premiered this year (" Mask "because of the second one)
The principle was as follows: there was 9 permanent participants who are both judges and competitors. Everyone had to perform in 9 predefined styles or categories, changing each time in each of the 9 parts of the show. It was very interesting because the candidates had to get out of their usual repertoire. To the 9 judges / candidates is added a different guest each week who also votes, because the artist who is on stage does not vote. They all have points from 2 to 9 to be distributed according to their assessment of the performance.

Your astonishment is not exceptional! Diana is an unique contralto (dramatic contralto) her comfort range is C3-C6 but in constant evolution. Diana uses many vocal techniques rarely used in pop music (like overtones, yodel, and some from lyric chant....). The one that seems to amaze people the most is multitonal (polyphonic) voice. The root notes are enriched with powerful harmonics which can give the impression that there are several overlapping voices or an artificial effect which gives this result.
This technique is used in Slavic folk music, like Bulgarian vocal groups or artists like Pelageya (th-cam.com/users/OlegSemyonov73videos), the Russian folk diva. I cannot tell you exactly how these artists achieve this result, I was just told that it is linked to the simultaneous use of the different resonators of the human body and that such a mastery of the voice and of the breath with such a fluidity requires years of work, Diana has been singing on stage and has been taking singing and performing arts lessons since the age of 6!
She has become famous in the broadcast "You're Great!" ("You are Super"), a song contest reserved for children who have had a difficult start in life. This is the case of Diana who was mistreated and ended up in an orphanage at 3 years old.
In her shows, Diana participates in the direction, direction and arrangements of her performances. She is a complete artist.
