My lawn mower will cut the grass, might be hard on it with the trees But the lawn tractor will do it, key point is don't let it get that bad. Plus the chain beats grass down it doesn't cut anything.
It's definitely broken because of the gear head..and the shaft gear. that is rebar And the spine gear and bushing will not be able to receive the G-force from the chain because the chain will change the centrifugal force. From the chain link, the bushing in the tail of the cutter shaft becomes loose. ..The gear head to change direction is broken..and the gear shaft spines are eroding quickly. But it's a concept. That's really great. If the lawnmower manufacturer could add Performance of materials, gears and power transmission stronger
Funny thing about reading comments on videos like this: it just occurred to me that one might be able to use thin steel cable on one of the trimmer heads where the string is doubled over and pushed through the mounting point. I mean a Rino-Tuff Pivotrim Universal Trimmer Head or similar. I just bought one, but I think when I'm in town I'll pick up a bit of cable and see how it works
The weight of the chain will effect the performance of the engine. Just use flat blade for brush cutting or even plastic blades would be a better option

I know that both titanium and carbon fiber are both expensive compared to steel, but I would be intrigued to see the chains made with a lighter weight metal. I would even say im interested to see what decent quality aluminum could do as well. If the chain was a bit ligher overall, or possibly having lighter chain links the farther away from the central turning mass, then I could easily see this type of design working much better overall with the size weed trimmer your using. Thanks for the informative video.
If you trim around mature trees, you will damage the bark. Stone or wooden landscaping will also be damaged by this tool. The chain head turns a regular trimmer into a hand held brush hog.
I dunno man, if that chain breaks I don't think the plastic guard will stop the chain from smashing your foot to bits, there might be a reason we don't use metal strimmer line
Having removed a link from each chain, I put my device into use. However there was a persistent problem in long grass (4ft high+/-) with tangling, where instead of cutting the grass the chains just grabbed it a wound it around the head. So, I decided that the rotation was too slow, and removed an additional link from each chain. [The speed is partially controlled by the 'pendulum' effect, the shorter the pendulum, the faster it will rotate.] This improved matters significantly and there were no more tangles after that, and it smashed through 3/4 inch thick brambles with ease. Just another 70 ft, x 4ft wide x 7ft high, bramble jungle to go! .
Have you ever considered a guitar string I set one up years ago used the largest unwrapped string I had worked very well however we knew that IT was dangerous so I put the original head back on ,but it worked like a dream we determined it just wasn't worth that level of risk,
I used chain saw chain turned backwards,to let the guide side do the cutting, on a 6 in 4 sided blade,,2 yrs no problem!!!!,so simple no more string bought!!!!!
I have a 30cc/1.9 hp trimmer than can handle that. Where did you get it? is there a purchase link? This will work much better and safer than my homemade blades (the weed warrior blades are too flimsy and snap all the time)
Hitting yourself into your shin with pedal hurts like hell. Imagine the pain if of the link hits your. Wouldn´t be safer to reinforce the guard of the trimmer head with metal or steel?
Brushless motors kinda solve that issue. Just stall the circuit board if it detects too much load. You can even skip the drive shaft on the dedicated string/brush trimmers.
These were banned in the UK after a chain link broke off and severed a young girl's spinal cord making her a quadriplegic. If you need to cut real tough brush a saw blade is far more effective or perhaps even a brush cutter.
Echo made a plastic trimmer head that had flat chains that worked great. You know what happened to them some crybaby had them recalled. Just because someone got hit by the chain breaking and hitting their legs. If you would change the chains to a say chainsaw chain it could cut through small trees.
Hmmm, how long you used this chain-cutter ? I think after more than 1 hour of use the edges of the links are round and no longer square. Then he won't cut anything anymore. If the ground is rocky, it will fail even faster.
there is a video of one with bicycle chains and one with 2 loops of chainsaw chain (without teeth) I have used the one like a chainsaw chain and it works good, However it takes a strong brush cutter engine to swing it. I use a 3HP brushcutter for mine for a few years now and its great. stay away from hard objects though and ensure your not around pets or people.

Dont even need to watch. Its too much weight spinning and the motor doesn't have enough torque to make it practical. You spend more time revving it up than you do cutting weeds

wonder if just steel cable would work well. just put a little spot weld on the end and a few dots down the cable to prevent it from unwinding.
