- "The Battle For The Ballpark: The Oakland Athletics' Quest For a New Home" dives into the Oakland A's recent stadium issues, their struggles to put a World Series winning team together, and future new stadium plans. This film features long-time NBC Sports analyst for the A's and Sharks, @brodiebrazil, who has been one of the leading supporters of the Howard Terminal ballpark plan. It also features ABC7's @CaseyPrattCreations, who has also been an excellent resource for A's stadium news. Hal "The Hot Dog Guy" Gordon, an Oakland Coliseum favorite, as well as an online personality, "Right Field" Will MacNeil, a diehard A's supporter, and @gamer_athletics, a dedicated A's TH-camr, are also featured. All five, in addition to Kasey (@giantsninersdubssharks, the editor, director, and writer of the film) illustrate their experiences as longtime supporters of the Athletics and their hopes for a new stadium on Oakland's waterfront.

I applaud you Kasey, this is a excellent documentary. I'm actually a Oakland A's fan living in Wisconsin. I saw the A's play the brewers many many moons ago and we met a few A's players and my friends dad knew a few A's players and they allowed my friend and I on the field level at County Stadium and from that day on I was a A's fan.
I noticed that the Brewers seemed to have the same issues as the A's with a stadium and player issues and the Brewers aren't a winning franchise. The Brewers seem to follow the A's playbook in letting good players go when they start to get good. I can't tell you the amount of good players I have seen come through the Brewers farm system and make the majors and then they decide that they don't want to play here anymore. I always say the Brewers are a farm team for the other teams that can afford to give them contracts. The brewers management seem to remind me of the A's management too as they don't seem to care about winning.
We also had a huge issue with the Brewers getting a new stadium here in Wisconsin. Milwaukee County Stadium was a outdated pile of crap stadium that really didn't fit baseball. It was very outdated and just not with the times, the Brewers had a ton of push back from people as it was proposed that if the Brewers got a new stadium that they would have a championship in 10 years. They also threatened to leave. Well they did get their stadium at a 4 county extra .5% tax added on to purchases. The Brewers haven't really produced the results that they promised for a new stadium. They have been asking for another 100 million to upgrade American Family Field. I don't believe this will go through as a lot of people are angered.
I believe the A's will get a new stadium and stay in Oakland. I really enjoy your channel, keep up the good work and uploads

Great video. What Brodie said towards the end is what hits me the hardest about not being able to raise our kids or future generations of Oakland/East Bay A’s fans and getting the experience of taking them to the local ballpark.
C'mon man. Get real. I get it. If you are a diehard Oakland fan then I understand that your kid may not see an A game but they can just go to SF and see a Giants game.

I grew up an Oaks fan. I wear my Oaks jersey to the A's game and never cease to strike up a very pleasant conversation with another old guy like me who grew up with the Oaks and now are guest services guys.
great Video! My Father worked on the coliseum in 65-66. got pics of it. Fremont family all the way. world series in 89! was there, drove pile at Howard terminal in the 80's. have to build the coliseum there!
The sad part is the A’s made the playoffs in 2020 & had so many great players- Matt Olson,Chapman etc.

You captured the fan angst over the decades perfectly. A plus production Kasey. By the way when will you give your last name? Or will you forever stick with just a first name like "Drake" and "Oprah.?" LOL. :) .......Loved the interviews. "Hal the Hot Dog Guy" is an institution. Brodie Brazil is always good. I wish long time Radio Announcer Ken Korach could have appeared. Ditto the late great Ray Fosse. .......You really should sell this to NBC Sports Net in the bay area. This will be a great thing for your resume, if and when you apply to an ESPN type sports network. .......Some critics might see this as a 30 minute infomercial for the Howard Terminal Ball Park. Fair enough. .....My back up plan would be to reconfigure the Coliseum the way it was before the Raiders came back and destroyed it in 1995. How about an upgrade in concessions? For crying out loud they shouldn't be the only major league park to forgo Pepsi and Coke and just have RC Cola. That's so bush league that the Reno Aces and Sacramento River Cats would never pull that. Keeping dead rats out of the vending machines would go a long way for good publicity. :( ......Again great job. I hope you do more of these documentaries in the future.

Great video. Oakland politicians are delusional. The stadium is privately financed, but the city is demanding the team to pay for everything outside of the stadium. Oakland should be lucky that a team is building their own stadium.

It makes me so angry to know that the Coliseum could be like Dodgers stadium had they done what the Dodgers did and kept it up. Dodgers stadium is a nightmare to get in and out of and has a dated look but they have been able to turn it into an icon. This was possible for the Coliseum and we don't have the traffic issues since we have BART and multiple ways in and out of the complex. Here's hoping we can somehow make HT work.
I wonder how much it'll cost to remove mount Davis.
The more I think about it the less bad I feel. You still have local teams for every major sport. 49ers, Giants, Warriors, and Sharks are all the bay area's local teams. Not every fan of a team lives right down the road from their areas team.

What's the point? If the A's are going to be leaving Oakland for Las Vegas ,the fans should stick it to John Fisher like what the Houston Oilers fans did to Bud Adams, since he planned on moving his team to Nashville, stop attending the games and buy any team merchandise.

Too bad they are never getting anything done in Oakland. HT is a total smoke screen. Port is never going to sell the land and ED is too expensive and will take too long, it would be tied up in courts for years. A's will be in Las Vegas in a couple years. They already have two options on land, just depends on where they want to build.
AS A BASEBALL FAN, & resident of Alameda County, While I'm not against a new ballpark I have never heard good reason against building on the current site,& tearing down the old one. As for the violence and other crime, in the area, that cannot change without significant investment in the area.
Plus the transportation infustructure power and connection to travel all are presently in place and upgrading these would be more cost effective. IMO AS A TAX PAYER IN ALAMEDA COUNTY, that is important to me. I support the A's but these are important me moving forward.
The Howard terminal site is all about $$$, and it would price out true and moderate fans needing to work many more times to afford to go ,let alone not be able to take a family.
This was a good article but I think it did miss a small but important part.
But more conversations still need to lead to results which will work for all.

The stadium and owner are a joke. Die hard A’s fan who has attended several games a year for 25 years. Last year I didn’t attend a game for first time because I reached my breaking point. I still wear my gear and root for players, but refuse to support that ownership. You have plenty of money, Fisher, why ruin your legacy by being the most hated owner in baseball?
Reality check. HT isn't going anywhere. MAYBE and it is a somewhat distant chance, you have a development eventually without the ballpark. Outside the slight detail that the land is best suited for its original purpose being the port, Fisher is looking at this a pure real estate development project. The A's are just an unfortunate cost of getting the deal done. You know, I know it. Everyone knows it. Fisher is just a CHEAPSKATE. Teardown the rebuild. ANY time an A's player gets good then just trade him away.
We are going into an economic recession and the numbers just don't pencil out for an HT development with the requirement of low income housing. Fisher is never going to sign off on a deal requiring him to build low income housing. Fisher is TOO CHEAP to spend millions on a baseball team so people expect him to spend billions on a ball park. Nah. Not happening. The real cost of capital has gone way up so the IRR and NPV numbers for HT have taken a dramatic change for the worse.
If you actually looked into the project you would know how deep of the project is. Some of the things you pointed out have been talked about and have been discussed and settled. Can’t call for a reality check when you, yourself don’t even know what’s fully going on.

@@gamer_athletics Actually they haven't. Oakland wants 35% affordable housing and the A's haven't addressed that. NO ONE believes that Fisher is going to give everything that the Oakland city council wants.
The issue is San Francisco.
Everything in the Bay area has to go through San Francisco San Jose and Oakland. Like a Committee. And SF is Chief. When the giants asked to move to San Jose Oakland said it's OK and it's cool but then giants change their mind and build a new stadium in SF. But when Oakland asked to move to San Jose it was not MLB who said no it was San Francisco. That was giants territory which I'm from San Jose And it never was until now that the 49ers moved here But in the community its still split. When the 49ers asked to move to San Jose, Oakland said it's cool and it happened. But now for Oakland to build a new stadium it has to be approved by San Francisco and they will not approve it. On the budget paper it will say approve or not approved. And when it came to the Oakland terminal project. San Francisco said "not recommended". Worse than not approved it's "not recommended". And why because this stadium will give light to Oakland and San Francisco does not want that. How dare Oakland have anything good and take any light from San Francisco... and if you ask anybody from San Francisco they will admit it!!!... When I was a child in the 80s San Jose build there first sky scraper next to Campbell and San Francisco stop San Jose from building skyscrapers until the 2 thousands. when they couldn't stop them no more. That why there's a random skyscraper by Campbell. It's San Francisco and there Need to be conceited.

Oakland is dying. Maybe the Athetics finding a new home is for the best. I am sorry if I sound like I am looking using a narrow lens but I hear nothing but bad news about Oakland.
New owner or no new stadium. The A's are masquerading as a professional sports team. You thought the 2022 season was bad. Wait until 2023 comes around with a 50-112 season.

This is what happens when you have a team MASQUERADING as a professional sports team. Fans lose interest. Sure you have some diehard fans but you don't have enough. 2023 season is going to be an ABSOLUTE disaster. The players will show up but they will be concentrating on their individual stats looking for their next team. Don't think of a poor 60-102 season. Try looking at a 50-112 season.

Sorry to give you the bad news Brodie but you lose credibility when you neglect the real problem being the owner. Maybe you can't address that but ignoring it actually brings more attention to Fisher being a cheapskate.
Oakland needs to concentrate on REAL problems being crime and homelessness. Either the cheapskate Fisher steps up to the plate with REAL MONEY footing the entire cost of the HT project or he leaves town.

Vegas is the most overrated city in America & lacks transportation. Vegas doesn’t have underground metro rapid trains like BART & Subway in NY 🚊
RTC buses here are actively on top of new transportation growth and staying flexible to serve community...by SF native build in Summerlin 2001 & takes RTC. Accessibility is much easier than Bay Area.
