    I never agreed with the Athletics leaving Oakland but after years of Oakland and Alameda County not doing a thing about a new stadium and now it's time to go to Vegas!

      well, the city and county are still on the hook for Mt Davis since Al or Mark didnt pay for anything. That fourth deck alone costed more than the coliseum itself

    • @lionsfan7500
      @lionsfan7500 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @toonces4x that's insane! I've never been there but just from what I read and see it seems like Mt. Davis was such a waste and I remember watching Raiders games here in Detroit after they we t back to Oakland and the coliseum always had so many empty seats and I never understand that. I live in a city where we have one of the worse teams in sports and Ford Field sells out every game. Watching the Athletics in the past it was so pretty looking past the outfield seats and seeing the mountains and now Mt Davis took that away too. How much did they spend on Mt Davis?

    That 400 million dollars of corporate welfare isn’t going to be as easy for the A’s as the Raiders.
    First, there is a different governor in Nevada, that already said no to new taxes for a new team.
    Second the Raiders had a massively better attendance and cross country marketability than the A’s. Though that means the minor league stadium should have more than enough seats for a team that usually has between 2-4 thousand showing up for games currently.

    I'm confused by part of this. How can San Jose, which is about 50 miles from San Francisco, but part of Giants territory, but Oakland, which is less than 10 miles away, isn't?
    Also, I will never understand why cities put up hundreds of millions to build stadiums that are then owned by the team which gets to keep all the profits. If Las Vegas puts up 400m of the 1.2b, or about 1/3 of the cost of a baseball stadium, they should have 1/3 of the ownership, get 1/3 of the naming rights income, 1/3 of the total gross income generated by the stadium, etc. Or the team should be required to pay rent. Or the team should have to share revenue with the city until the city's portion of construction costs is fully paid off. Or the city should get to levy a seat tax on tickets, or a dedicated sales tax on concessions.
    My point being that the city should get direct income from the building it financed, and not have to rely on unreliable indirect income that will potentially take decades to pay off.
    Or even better, a team that's worth billions and stands to make billions should pay for their own stadium entirely.

    • @bobbowie9350
      @bobbowie9350 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The govt owns the building but the team gets that sweet luxury box deal, etc. That's why every team wants a new stadium.

    • @g.mitchell7110
      @g.mitchell7110 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobbowie9350 This is my point. If the city or state own part or all of the building, they should get a significant share of the revenue that it directly produces or the team should have to pay a significant amount of rent.

      San Jose is about the same distance from Oakland than it is to SF. But after some research, it looks like the MLB Constitution gave the Giants territorial rights of SJ. In the 90s, the Giant's owner wanted to relocate from SF to SJ, and the A's owner ceded.

    • @g.mitchell7110
      @g.mitchell7110 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evdrip I wasn't clear in how I worded it. San Jose is about 50 miles from San Francisco, and Oakland is less than 10 miles from San Francisco, so it makes no sense that relocating to a new stadium in Oakland wouldn't infringe on the Giants territory, but relocating to San Jose would.
      I mean, there are three cities that have two MLB teams in the same city, but 50 miles away is infringing on their territory. It's bizarre.

      It was an agreement a long time ago when the Giants were going to leave. It's called Management..which the A's don't have! The Giants built their stadium and that only happens with great ownership and Management!

    An open stadium in Las Vegas. What happens when temperatures are 120 degrees? If the billionaires want a stadium, then foot the money. It's a scam and overpriced. Las Vegas shouldn't give money and order that the stadium has a roof. No money for the stadium at all, no funding for a stadium where nobody will go to see games. Remember the sun in summer? No tax exemption. Tired of our money going to politicians' pockets. Traffic accumulation in the strip. Also, stadiums should have outside shade from the sun. If the people are going to stand for 1/2 hrs. or more.
