ILCA (Laser) upwind wave action practice: hike, sheet drop and drive (4/16/23 SF bay)

  • Two minutes long clip when practicing wave action in about 16 knts breeze. When hitting the wave and boat started loading, hike harder, sheet drop and slightly bear away to gain speed. I think I was a little over-acting in this clip. Also, after doing this for 1.5 minutes, it looks I was getting tired and I was not responding well in the last 30 sec.

    Very good sailing Toshi. Your camera support construction is doing good job. I am not so careful to have sail on 90 degrees angle on must before set up. It looks to me you have different sail angle along mast in this clip or it is because of sail is partly opened in the top to depower. Not sure-only my thinking.... A lot of greetings from windy Stavanger-to strong wind to sail today...

      Thank you very much, Dejan! Yes, I was doing massive de-power and putting lots of boom vang on in this upwind (~90% of max vang), which would be why you might see the different sail-mast angle. It was challenging sailing condition!
