      I agree, I bought mine about 5 months ago and apart from the initial retuning because of the new strings, it just doesn't go out of tune, I only bought it because at 69 years old I have never tried a Floyd. I use my other guitars, acoustic as well as electric, more than the Harley so it's laying around for weeks sometimes without being played, I pick it up again and can't believe it's still in tune, very impressed.
      I broke the high E yesterday during the solo to Whole Lotta Love, so I'm just about to do my first string change ever on a Floyd, wish me luck.

      @@user-jd6rd8cq7k Yes, funny how you asked just now, I bought a new acoustic a few months back and have been playing that ever since, however I picked up the Harley again yesterday and unbelievably it's still in tune. Remember though my strings are well stretched, it takes a few adjustments to get to this point, but once you do you shouldn't need to continuously re-tune.

    I'm starting to think a lot of the animosity for Gibson and Fender these days is simply because of how good the quality / playability of the lower end of the market has become. Even ten years ago you couldn't imagine a guitar of this quality being so affordable.

    The Floyd Rose on these guitars are *rock solid.* It does *not* have any tuning stability issues whatsoever, as you said - as a matter of fact, the guitar was in perfect tune when I got it. I did have to lower the action and tighten the truss rod with the included tools, though. An easy thing to do.

    Hey Phil! I have a Floyd Rose 1000 on my Kramer SM-1 and find it to actually be a very good bridge. Nothing like the cheap Floyd Rose specials. The 1000s are metallurgicaly identical to the original Floyds just made in Korea - as far as I can find out. It's the one thing that concerned my when ordering the SM-1 but I have been very impressed. It's perfectly stable and can take a real beating. If that is what HB are using here then there shouldn't be any major issues there. Great honest demo Phil, thanks for the upload!

      @h.m.2434 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Phil is honest. I have one of these, and it isn't as impressive as what people say on TH-cam. HB guitars are only impressive if you compare them to guitars in the $200-300 range, and many reviewers failed to emphasize this. Charvel, Jackson, Ibanez, and a few others have models with duncans and dimarzio pickups on sale/discount in the $450-650 range during the last few months. You just have to search and/or be patient for them. You are correct that they may not have both stainless steel frets and roasted maple features that interest you but these upgrades are not as important as I
      had thought. A guitar with a good and easy to play neck and top tier pickups will make you feel like you don't want to stop playing. If you are after the real best-value-for-the-money brand, in terms of quality and features, Esp Ltd and Schecter already beat everyone in that category.

    I've had my Harley Benton Fusion ll Pro Series for a couple of weeks now and it came ready to play but I did adjust the string height and the neck relief. This guitar does not have the Floyd Rose or locking nut. It is an HSH with a standard 2 point trem bridge, a TUSQ XL nut and locking tuners (staggered) with a toggle coil spit. I refer the toggle switch rather than a "pull" switch for the split and I installed another toggle to activate the bridge pickup in the selector 4 and 5 positions. This guitar is incredible for the $$ and the bridge is stable and was properly adjusted for intonation and float. My cost in Canadian $ was about $600.00 but still rivals much more expensive guitars.

    Also, since the Floyd equipped Fusion is going to give you tuning issues, I would suggest going with the Wilkinson equipped version which is $366 USD (at the time of this post). Then slap in some quality used Seymore Duncans or DiMarzios and you're set to jet.

    Phillip, seems to me the pickups sound fine, roasted maple, stainless steel frets, decent trem, really good finish alone, could not touch anything like that, in that price range, I mean come on, I don't care if its made on Mars. I bought a HB CST 24T, for $207 dollars. I love it. I will never pay $$$$ again for a guitar. Selling s few guitars, and I know I will not get half what I paid for them Gibson, Gretsch, Fender, Epiphone etc. The HHS pickups, can allow for a lot of styles, without changing guitars at gigs. And if I wanted to change out the pickups, would still be ahead of a 'Name Guitar' Thanks,

    • @tommurrayGTR
      @tommurrayGTR 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Name guitar doesn't mean quality, but if we speak in general terms a name guitar at a certain price point hits a certain fit and finish standard that you're not getting when a guitar is made with the specific goal of being cheap but still good. Cheap but good, means corners are cut on hardware, pick ups and final inspections! sharp frets, badly leveled frets... add these things together and now you're amazing cheap €300-400 guitar now needs 150 on fret repair and 200 for new picks and installation... not all Harley bentons are made equally is the point, I wouldn't hang my hat on them or sell my name gear so fast.
      Not saying your HB guitar isn't excellent, but this bash the name argument you have is crazy!

    I don't have an OFR or a 1000, but how bad it could it be? The base plate is hardened steel. Provided the knife edges aren't totally messed up in profile it should stay in tune just fine. I mean the Ibanez Edge works just fine (I have like 4 of them) and those are just cast steel with the exception of the knife-edges (which are hardened steel). They totally work fine. I feel like there is no reason this 1000 unit shouldn't function adequately.

    I'm a lefty, and was pleasantly surprised when mine came, the set up was tops, but even lowered the action a tad more, this one is the latest model, with a roasted/toasted flame maple neck and to my surprise, a thick fingerboard with-- burly curly maple on 1/2 the neck! No fret buzz at all, and the action is quite low... I love how well the Wilkinson floating bridge works as well, stays in tune with no problems at all. So easy to work on too.
    An interesting thing is that the HSH pickup set up is not as bad as people are saying!
    I have L.P. guitars, and fender Stratocasters, and with my set up, the FUSION ll sounds great!! I completely was blown when it seemed to sound better than my humbuckers in my L.P.!!!
    I will say this, to me the spilt coil switch doesn't blow my skirt up cause the volume change is way too noticeable...
    So, I don't pay too much attention to that switch lol. I use it as a humbucker guitar and it kills it, sounds great, changing pickups is not necessary...
    And if I want that special single coil guitar sound, I always go to my trusty 11, year old Fender Stratocaster which I would never part with. But I tell ya, that FUSION ll is a dream to play, super comfy, neck And fret job is just tops!! ( on mine) at least.
    Being a lefty, it's nice to have that model available... (the lastest model) where they FINALLY changed over to a roller string tree, tusk nut, and staggered tuners & the Wilkinson floating bridge and not that funky Floyd) =zero tuning problems!!
    I would certainly recommend this guitar, built like a tank!!

    thank you Phil for keeping it honest!!! Because most of the videos I saw that came out of the what was it the TTU event was like nothing but a Harley Benton commercial. So I'm really glad to see that you are as you usually are upright and telling what you see as the truth when it comes to these guitars. and I know for that kind of money you might not be able to buy something new but you can definitely do better use. In 2016 I bought a 2005 SG special I call it an SG special plus because this guitar came with a full wine red finish rather than the usual faded finish. The guitar was perfect there wasn't a scratch on it look brand new. The hardware the tuners everything on the special in 2005 when it came to the electronics and hardware in the wall was exactly the same hardware that you would see on the standard SG. So yeah I case 550 bucks plus shipping came to like 5 6 that's $580 all said and done and it's one of my favorite guitars and I own a few and I own a few that a quite a bit more money even the standard SJ. Yeah so like you said before you know there's so much out in the US market for people to choose from you know and as long as it's in good shape no it's a guitar it'll do what it's supposed to do want it. Anyway please excuse any typos misspelled words lack of punctuation I'm not a bad typer I'm not even a literate or the long my friend shyam I'm just legally blind using the speech-to-text little microphone everyone sees on top of the keyboard let me tell you the speech-to-text types what it wants to more than what I tell it to lol again thanks will sincerely yours, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist

      It's kinda a pointless upgrade, the FRT1000 is already a high quality unit so the only thing worth replacing would be the trem arm itself, which is like a $20 upgrade that takes 5 mins to swap out. Replacing the whole trem for a German one would cost almost as much as the guitar cost, and it's not really even much of an upgrade. Phil has shown a bit of ignorance here since the FRT1000 Korean trems are well known as being high quality units and you will still find them on guitars 4x this price.

      Yeah, but that's true of most guitars. You could buy a $2000 guitar, upgrade stuff on it, and say "Man, I wish I had bought a $3000 guitar." It was obvious how much he didn't want to like this guitar from the beginning of the video. He's always down on Harley Benton for some reason. The question everyone needs to ask is, is it a good guitar for the price they're asking? If so, then have fun with it. If not, then pass on it and buy something else.

    I've had two Fusion Pro II: the first ('natural flamed maple) was bad, nut was cut very badly, the 5-way switch was defective, pickups were all over the place, but the neck did at least feel good. Thomann are known for 'inspecting' every guitar before it ships, so I can only assume this one missed out on the QC check. I sent it back (Thomann's customer service and returns policy is fair and quick) and swapped for the same model but with the 'Bengal Burst' finish - what a good decision. The finish is gorgeous and this one is the bomb. Nut is perfect, as is everything else mechanical. I have quite a few guitars and this is the best neck I've ever played. Mine has the Wilkinson trem with locking tuners and it holds tune perfectly - I have several other makes with Floyd's, and I dislike them. Too fiddly, and if you're unlucky enough to break a string, changing is a bitch.
    The one weakness is the pickups - they sound ok, but there is a significant volume drop in coil-split mode. It's still easily gigable, but I will swap the pups out when I get time. Bottom line is, for the money this is an awesome guitar. Yes, you could get better....for ten times the price. If you're on a tight budget and like this style of HSH guitar, go for it.

  • @pupu6oi74
    @pupu6oi74 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have the same guitar. Fretboard indeed looks different from the neck.
    Flame maple veneer on mine is much nicer though. Sheets of veneer fit much better.
    Sound is pretty much like in this video. Coil split sucks. Humbuckers don't have a lot of bass and have low-mid output.
    I have a lot of guitars, so I don't plan on swapping pickups in this one. It's ok for rock.
    Floyd is great! Made in Korea with the same specs of metal as those that are made in Germany. So Phil is too critial here.
    Also, price is amazing even if you are planning on swapping pickups.
    I guess Phil doesn't get that people don't have infinite money and 900$ Charvell costs more than 2 times.

    Question - what type of fret size do you think the guitar have - 6105? They only specify medium jumbo.
    Thing is that if you like the neck profile the guitar is great for the money. Hell, if i was HB i would sell only the neck (24 and 22 fret version) with same tuners and SS frets and still be cheap :D
    Staying with roasted models, for 50-70 bucks less you could get non floyd and the 22 fret version. Add 100 bucks for used JB/59 or a bit more for some other used set and you're golden.
    I'm interested to see new singlecuts and teles fusion models (tremolo and hardtail), both with SS frets and roasted maple necks. A singlecut, at least as a prototype, have ebony fretboard too.

Playabilty is paramount, you can catch up with quality later, and by then your fingers will have learned to judge that better.
