Loved your reaction! So glad they picked Chris Tomlin’s arrangement to start with. Powerful lyrics plus beautiful harmonies in a peaceful chapel in nature = very moving video that can reach anyone where they are no matter their background or beliefs. Mitch’s lower register was strong and it is always a treat when Kevin sings!

I completely understand where you're coming from. The first few times I heard this I cried. I can finally listen to it without crying but I still get goosebumps when Kristin's part starts.
WOW!!! That's all I can say. I'm a HUGE Pentatonix fan and this was the first time I heard their version of this. Chills, goosebumps and tears - I've heard it said when you can achieve all three of these from a song, it's truly a message from up above that you are on the right track.

The arrangement is really killer - how Matt produces a baseline like a church organ and the harmonies, especially with the borrowed chord at the end of Kirstin‘s part („reigns“) so clever and so good! Next I recommend „Mary did you know“ (maybe save for Xmas?) or „Havanna“!

I saw them few years ago here in Euro in a tour that they did. I really just went because my daughter was below the age to go alone. I must say I had such a fantastic time and since then I do not miss a release. Hope to see them again live some day.....

Another facet that doesn't get mentioned often enough is the "bagpipe drone" by Kirstin and Kevin behind Matt's opening verse. Absolutely beautiful. And then Kevin's solo in the final verse is the cherry on top. Kirstin's verse gives me goosebumps every time!

Unfortunately I only get chills when I am cold. However, the quirk in my brain that prevents that chills response, has replaced it with the default response of crying. I have been this way as far as I can remember.Now couple that response with the fact I was always the smallest kid not just in my class, but in the whole school. Get teased much? Worse. I was a target for the next 10-11 years, and not good-natured teasing. But after school it got better. Now I'm 70 in ill-health and don't see others at all so I can give full vent to my quirk and this was a great one to let go with. Thanks Cliff for your reaction, it was beautiful.
what I'm impressed with is Kirsten, when you think of how she sounds in early stuff such as Halleljuah and now ... her vibrato is incredible, she's has far more control of it now. In fact try a double reaction going from Hallelujah to this one, just so you can hear how much they've grown in sound and style

I love each and every single member of Pentatonix, and the different aspects each of them bring that mesh so well together. Scott has incredible range w/ the ability to swap his low/high register SO quickly. Mitch has his undeniable falsetto and again, range. Kirstie provides such an incredible vocal support that she can carry so far, not to mention she blows the roof off every time she has a solo. Avi/Matt both a beyond impressive low end that sounds like butter. And then there’s Kevin, and what the hell can’t he do?

I love PTX, love every song that I've ever heard done by them and this one is by far my absolute favorite of all their brilliant songs simply because the song itself of course holds so much meaning for so many people being such an old hymn that many of us have memories of hearing in churches and other places for our entire lives and they did the newer rendition of the older classic that was originally introduced by Chris Tomlin if I'm not mistaken, I think it was him and I've also loved that version since I heard it and their angelic voices bring me to tears every single time I hear them sing it. Doesn't seem to matter how many hundreds and thousands of times that I listen to it, you'd think I'd eventually have heard it enough times to be able to listen to it without tearing up but I cannot lol. I remember the first time I heard it, I started to get pretty teary eyed almost from the very beginning and then started to actually cry a little when Mitch started his part which continued through to the end and then when Kevin came in at the end with his solo, I burst into full blown sobbing lol. At that point I had never heard Kevin sing by himself before so that was a big surprise for me and now I just wish he'd have a solo part in every song that they do lol. I know he has to do most of their percussion sounds and all that but his voice is so amazing. You should do a reaction to, or at least just check out for yourself even if you don't do a video for it, but his cover of a song called "Down" that he does solo, you can find it on his youtube channel which is I believe KO (Kevin Osula, did I spell that right lol). Anyway, his talent is incredible, just all the things that he can do, a lot of which aren't even seen when he's performing with the rest of the group, he's got so many talents and I've heard he is also a certified genius which I don't doubt one bit lol!

The first time I heard this version, from about 5:17 (referencing this timeline for the reaction) to the end of the part I was nearly paralyzed, I thought pins were going to come out of my goose bumps, my eyes full of tears... I was literally reaching to pause it when they cut off on that last chord and it goes to black, it was like it was too much and my head was about to explode or something. If I go a month or two without listening, I get some of that back.
I had no knowledge of the My Chains Are Gone changes... But I knew the regular song quite well, I had sang a verse solo much like Kevin did when I was around 14-15 in church (definitely lost that range in the intervening 20 years, now I'd probably be singing it around C2). Not sure if it was the uncertainty of what was next plus the master execution of this masterfully written adaptation, but it was a heck of an experience.
And this coming from a very not-very religious person... I can only imagine how those who really believe felt the first time.
