    Hello from Northern Alberta (Canada!) I've always been curious about "the South". (I play fiddle and used to play banjo!) Southern people, culture, food, music seem fascinating! Having said that, some of the things I appreciate in northern Canada are: no poisonous snakes, poisonous spiders, poisonous other insects, no cockroaches, no insects that eat your house. I love our long summer days then there are only about 4 hours of darkness and I'd miss having a real white Christmas with a few feet of snow everywhere. Having said that, I really do hope to visit the south one day!

      I am jealous of you having no snakes, palmetto bugs, or termites. But I do not envy your having to shovel snow all winter. 😂 We had lunch outside today because it was so warm and it's mid November. Thanks for your comment!

      @@georgiacoasthomes We do have "garder snakes" but they are non-poisonous. Children pick them up when they can catch them. "I've been dreaming of a white Christmas ..." :)

    Carrollton, GA is a really good option. Cheapest Georgia state university at UWG - University of West Georgia. Excellent high schools Carrollton City High and Carroll County High. Charter/Spectrum and CarrollEMC/CrossBeam are or have run fiber to most of the rural roads or have coax in town. Remote work/rural living is very cheap while only being an hour out of Atlanta and an international airport (Hartsfield). Very cheap electricity with CarrollEMC. College town atmosphere. The area between Carrollton and Roopville is difficult to find housing because nobody wants to sell or move. Land is very inexpensive and getting a good general contractor here is not very difficult. Many trades people that work in Atlanta live in the Carrollton/Bremen area.

    If you have such a strong reaction to poison ivy, I'd like to caution you against eating mangoes, cashews and pistachios. They have a small amount of urushiol which is the chemical irritant you may be allergic to. A friend of mine who is sensitive to urushiol ate some mangoes and her face and mouth broke out in oozing sores.

    • @georgiacoasthomes
      @georgiacoasthomes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no!!! I love all those things. Although I found out from my dermatologist that it wasn’t poison ivy after all. Only took two urgent care visits, one to my primary care doc, and FINALLY the dermatologist to diagnose it. Good times…

    Good luck with the carpenter bees 🐝. They ruined our 50k deck here in Ca. We finally fixed the problem by having the deck completely demolished and replaced it with a huge vinyl patio cover and new pool. Swear to goodness that’s they only thing that worked! This was a great video. We have rattle snakes 🐍 here and I am a bit concerned about the snakes there. Love the idea of having a chicken coop if we relocate. What’s the best wooded land property areas in Georgia?

    Last year I moved into a house with a carpenter bee problem. The prior owners did nothing about it, which let it get out of hand. They lay their babies in the wood and the problem multiplies year after year. So last year I put up traps (that caught some), and I sprayed insecticide into the holes to kill new ones from coming out. This year I have seen only one or two and the traps are getting those.

    • @georgiacoasthomes
      @georgiacoasthomes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We bought some traps this year and they have helped a ton! The one by the front porch has gotten at least 10 of the little buggars so far.

    • @serafinamarotta
      @serafinamarotta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgiacoasthomes They help a lot. You can also buy a liquid bait to put on the traps to attract more. Next year I bet you'll notice way less bees

    Hi Karin, thank you for your Video. I would like to recommend you try to get some goose/geese which is believed to drive snakes away. Making a beehive or honeycomb would be helpful, but remember to put some sugar inside.
    By the way , we are explording for some suitable farm/ranch in south of GA just for investment. And we are living in Florida, not a long way away. Should I have your input, much appreciate.
