    Really liking the special abilities on these cards. Seems very true to the heart of the character. Also, looks like some possibilities for an interesting meta game now that I'm thinking about what kind of team to make, and how my in-game dice purchase decisions will be driven in response to my opponent.

    • @WatchItPlayed

      The Global Abilities add an interesting twist too, because you or your opponent are basically bringing a new Action option(s) that will then be present during that game, regardless of die purchases.

    When I saw the previous instructional video, I noticed at the end that it said "gamplay" instead of "gameplay". But I thought: "the video is already uploaded, they won't be able to fix that". Now I see there's a second part with the same typo. I should have said something :( I hope maybe it can get fixed for future videos. As always, excellent videos!!!

    I have 3 questions...
    1. I have an Iceman card that says the first time I field another character each turn, Iceman gains +3A and +3D. Does this extra attack and defense go back down at the end of my turn or does it keep stacking? Can I keep adding 3 each turn to make +6, +9, etc.?
    2. I have a Namor card that says if Namor is the only character left in my field at the end of any turn, I can field two sidekick dice from my used/prep area. Does this mean I can have 2 or 3 Namor dice in the field and still activate this ability? Or does it have to be 1 Namor die?
    3. Where did you get your dice bags? The ones that came with my starter set are starting to wear.
    Thank you very much for posting this video. I ultimately decided to purchase this game after watching your videos.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. It goes down at the end of each turn.
      2. I don't have that card, but I'm assuming it means a single die. That's a good question for WizKids.
      3. Some were sent to me by viewers, but you can also buy dice bags at game stores, usually.
      Hope that helps!

    • @TaskMaster5
      @TaskMaster5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sasquatch1625 In response to the Namor question: With how he is worded, it would seem that if you have only Namor fielded, then his ability works. Normally, they get pretty specific. They'd have to say something like "If you only have 1 Namor dice fielded at the end of your turn, do xyz". It specifically says if Namor is the only one you have fielded, you get to use the ability. Since you have 1 or more Namor fielded...you still meet the criteria for the effect. Namor is the only character fielded. At least, from my understanding.

    After watching your videos this weekend, today me and my buddy played are first couple games as a warm up to introduce it and start judging month 1 of MDMAvX. I have a couple questions, hopefully you can help...
    1. 'BAC Force Beam - Deal 1 damage to each character (including yours) *Instead, deal 2 damage to each character **Instead, deal 1 damage to each player and 2 damage to each character.' With what's written on the card, If you haven't rolled a burst and you use this action you and your opponents character take 1 damage, do the characters have to be active or it does it matter if they are simply fielded? Also, if they are bursted there is not a '(including yours) so do you avoid the damage?
    2. When there is mention of 'character' does that mean actual Marvel characters and not your sidekick?
    3. On Deadpool - Jack, it states that when Deadpool attacks you may assign an opposing character to block him. At the end of the turn, KO that character. Does the opposing character have to be of lesser value? So for example, if I am forced to block with a bursted Hulk that has a A-8 and D-8, and Deadpool is lvl 1 and has a A-2 and D-4...will that still KO Hulk?
    I have a whole slew of questions Rodney, but for now I think these 3 should hold me over til you respond and then I can bombard you with more lol. Thanks

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are not official answers, just my confident take on it.
      1) The Attack Zone is just another part of the field, so all characters in the attack zone specifically, and fielded, take the damage. Bursted or not, your characters take the damage as well.
      2) Sidekicks are characters too.
      3) Yep, the character is auto KO'd, regardless of stats.

    I just got my first copy of Dice Masters, which is the TMNT set.
    I've been trying to figure out how to play it and after watching most of your Dice Masters videos, I still have this question in mind:
    If my friend/friends and I are to play with everything coming from this box, which they don't have theirs, it is owned by me, how do we build our teams since everything have to be shared?
    Thanks for the reply and suggestions, Rodney!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what the TMNT set comes with, but I know for the Dice Masters starter, you could make a couple of smaller teams to play. If you really want your friends to be able to build whatever they want, they'll likely have to get their own cards and dice or just agree to build from whatever you don't use in your set.

  • @tadair231

    Not many rule questions so let me start
    1. Cards that say give a character +1+1 then * give another character +1+1 can you target the same character twice?
    2. human torch says when you field a character (not dice) deal one damage when you field characters are they at the same time or fielded one at a time? I.E can you stack the effect or does it only resolve one per turn?
    3. if I use smash one a lvl 1 then in response he levels up to lvl 2 does smash fizzle?
    Thats all I have off the top of my head I am sure I will have more soon

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's my unofficial answers:
      1. If it says "give another", then it would need to be another, different character.
      2. This would resolve each time you field a character. So if you field 3 characters, it resolves three times.
      3. I don't have the card in front of me, Smash is the one that KO's a level 1 character? If so, Smash would fizzle.

  • @johncasamassa2840

    First off, thank you for the videos. They have been so helpful! I do have a question about damage during combat. For example, the Red Hulk - Thunderbolt Ross card says that if he is "damaged during an attack phase but not knocked out, spin him up one level at the end of the turn." How would that work? Can a character be damaged but not knocked out, and what are the effects?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Casamassa Hey John. A die is only knocked out, if the attack value is equal to or greater than the defense value of the target. Let's say the attacker hits Red Hulk with 2 attack, and Hulk has 3 defense, then hulk was "damaged", but not knocked out. So at the end of the turn, Hulk would spin up a level. Hope that helps!

    Hi there !! First, i want to say, thank you for your videos. They've been both helpfull and teasing, the game do really looks fun, i've discovered the game via another, earlier video you made and pre-ordered ASAP the starter plus one o' those gravity thingy full of foil booster.
    Now I watched some games, played here and there, but i still have a remaining questions. Maybe once you have the rulebook under the nose it seems logicall but ... i know there are, in a "pro" team (perdon me i tend to forget each format's name, but the one where you initiate the game with 20 life points), you are supposed to dispatch 20 dices on your 8 character cards. What about the generic action card ? Do you always put on them as many dice as whatever the "max" value say ? I believe they hold 3 dices for the most, but i needed to ask to be shure haha.
    Also, on a more complexe and taste-related question, this time ; Is it me or the actions cards tend to be easyly overlooked or even unused ? And why do player tend and try to reroll characters instead of going on a shopping spree and bring like, 2 or three characters in a row thanks to thoses double-energy sides ?
    You know what they say, "Number is power", or "quantity over quality". While i highly doubt the trendy saying is here to be followed and the only way to win, as i'm eager to try that style of play, i was just curious if you actually saw players focusing on hiring dosen of hero and it didn't worked for them or if it's just plain rare to base a deck upon such strategy ...
    Well sorry for the big chunck of text, thanky you again for your passion and patience, and hope maybe i could play against you once i receive my dices, haha~

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BASIC Action cards that are available to both players, always get 3 Action dice each (remember, there are a couple of other Action cards, which are not Basic ones, that you can specifically have on your team of 8 cards - those you assign dice, like characters, up to their max).
      It's hard to say why a player may or may not go for an Action die in a given situation. It may be because they are new to the game, and don't see the value, or that they are trying something different in terms of their strategies. There are certainly some powerful Action dice effect.
      No worries on the questions, glad to help out if possible. I'm a little light on the information regarding strategy as I tend to play games very casually - as it's all my time will allow with my shooting schedule, but there are podcasts and strategy blogs out there that go into more detail.

      Many thanks for thoses anwsers ! Yeah some actions sounds really helpfull to me, like gearing up or those two actions that can boost atack or defense with a global ability.
      Those later two could force your opponement to keep some energies aside in reserve, and if that work, you'll just have a step ahead to build and recruit whoever you want to. (that's how it sound on the paper anyway, gotta test those once i receive the package, probably like tomorrow haha).
      Thanks again for your time and aswers :D

  • @tadair231

    When a character such as Loki controls another fielded character and has it on top... Does it get just the character dice abilities or does it also inherit all the card abilities? Example like if Loki controlled say Captain America would the Loki player now get +1A +1D for his sidekicks.
    Or is this just for the copied ability?
    Thanks and awesome videos!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you take control of a die, the die still references the card associated with it (which is on your opponents side), so Cap would retain his abilities, but they would benefit the Loki player. Hope that helps!

    Now that there are more expansion characters out there, I have a question. I understand the rule of not having the same character card, since one would be able to build up a giant pool of the same kind of dice and have the versatility of choosing whatever ability one might want from any of its cards, but could one have two character cards with the same name but different artworks and dice colors? (e.g. Wolverine 'Antihero' uses blue dice write in yellow, the same of 'Superhero', 'The Best There is', or 'Not Very Nice' variations, so I understand that you can choose only one of those four, but Wolverine 'Wildboy' uses different dice - yellow dice write in blue, so...?)

    doomsday - unstoppable rampage says in the bottom text "When Doomsday is dealt damage, target opponent must spin down a non-Sidekick to level 1 or KO a character die". so if a non-sidekick can't spin down anymore, because they're already at level one, will they then have to KO a character die then?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Michael Trevino That would be my understanding, but I would advise checking with the community on this one. I tend to avoid answering questions about specific card effects, because these are better answered by official sources (sometimes card effects get tricky based on certain interactions, etc).

    I'm sorry if this is a repeat question. I did load all other comments and then tried ctrl + f, but didn't find my question. I've only watched 2 videos, so if my question is addressed later on then my bad.
    You say "choose 8 character cards" in the video; do I have to choose 8, or is it "choose up to 8"? As long as I can distribute all the die I need to, could I have just 5 character cards? For example, in a game with 20 character die, I choose to distribute 4 die to each character (5 different characters). This of course assumes each character has a max of 4 or more.
    Thanks for the videos, very clear and concise!

    Great video Rodney, thanks! Question: when more than one die of a particular character is fielded, do I treat those dice as a single character when attacking or blocking? Or can I split them up?

    • @WatchItPlayed

      You can split them up. Thematically, you can think of it as the character running around, and engaging in different fights during the battle.

    Could you please explain the "Heroic" mechanic? What does it mean to pair one character with another?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not an effect found in the original set of Marvel Dice Masters, so I can't help you there.

    • @DanteMustLearn
      @DanteMustLearn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      heroic dice basically mean that if paired with another heroic heroic you gain the affect on both cards for only the turn that card A and B have dice fielded, for example Cyclops die is feilded at the same time as prof x is feilded you would activate both dies heroic abilty until the end of your turn but after that turn their heroic abilities cannot be reactived untill both heroic die is placed in the field after being rolled in the draw step

    Hey Rodney. THis was very useful but I wonder if you can help with some clarifications. I have checked BGG and the forums are RAGING with debate on this matter, so I figured I'd ask the Pro.
    My opponent has 3 life left.
    What if I am attacking (Green Goblin+SideKick+SideKick+Sidekick)
    [Irrelevant which Goblin]
    Opponent uses Iron Man: Philanthropist to block GG.
    [Which give him an extra life for each damage dealt to Iron Man]
    How does this work? Do the sidekicks get through which would cause 3 damage and win me the game BEFORE Iron Mans power? Or Does Iron Mans power fire first giving my opponent a life boost and keeping him/her in the game?
    There are several cards with these kind of effects and perhaps there is some subtle wording I'm not getting.
    Your our last hope Rod.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on the order in which dealing damage is listed in the rulebook, it would appear you resolve all blocked characters and effects first, and then resolve unblocked characters.

    • @DoomsDaySignals
      @DoomsDaySignals 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      Thanks Rod. There are some strong opinions on this matter, but I would agree with you. I think the main areas of contrversy lie with Iron-Man, Hulk and Hawk-Eyes abilities. Although I've only encountered Iron Man so far, I have seen others post about the Latter two's abilities in this context as well.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sean Burrows I'm back with an authoritative answer for you:
      (Rulebook Page 8-Assign Damage) Both players assign damage. Damage occurs simultaneously. (In the rare case where it is relevant, the attacking player assigns first, although damage still resolves simultaneously.)
      So, in most instances, damage is resolved simultaneously-but in certain instances where it would matter (like the scenario you described above) it would be resolved in the order that is determined by the active player.

    • @DoomsDaySignals
      @DoomsDaySignals 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      I think this is what has got a lot of people thinking. One theory is that "Damage Assignment" is independent from "Damage Resolve". I think this came up in the case of the Hulks ability (not sure what it was - something about increasing his A & D by 3 once he is damaged). So with that in mind, damage is assigned by both players (Or as I imagine it in this context, kind of like freeze/bullet time in a video game) which could inflict a negative score on a characters life, then powers are triggered (if any) and then you check for KO. So the controversy comes back to my situation because...
      A. If your character can take negative damge before he/she is KO'd, is the same said for the case of Iron-Man (Philanthropist) and healing a players life?
      B. If this theory is wrong, then when does Hulks ability fire? Right after he takes the first damage? But in which case why is his card not just worded as hulk has +X amount of A & D?
      I think the answers will lie in future cards and strategies really, but I can see how this is presenting itself as a real problem for players as it seems to imply one set of rules for one situation and then another set for a different.
      Sorry if this I am bugging you with all this as well, but I think people look to you as the MDM expert right now. At least I do :) Thanks for listening.

    Me and a friend had our first game Marvel Dice Masters last night and really enjoyed it.
    A few questions were raised.
    Can you stack Action Cards? I.e. could I combine the effects of 'Inner Rage' with 'Thrown Car' or could I use 'Thrown Car' Twice?
    If I used 'Energy Beam' and it did 1 DMG to all characters' will that DMG stay til the end of the round? Could I use it to weaken a character before I fielded my character and then use my character to finish him off?
    Thanks :-D

      You can play multiple actions to receive their results multiple times (as long as you have the dice to pay their cost to activate).
      Damage dealt lasts until the end of the turn.

    I have a question concerning timing for global actions and action cards. In the rule book it states that both global affects and action cards can be played during either main phase. Is this the only time they can be played, or can global affects be played at anytime? For example, my opponent has moved to the attack step, I still have energy in my reserve pool. After damage is assigned, I play a global affect that says prevent 1 damage using my available engergy. Is this legal?

    What happens if you run out of dice in the bag and all other dice are on the field? i mean if theres no dice in the prep area or used area and you could only draw 3 dice, where the 4th come from?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If, after refilling the bag from the used pile, you are still only able to draw 3 dice or fewer, take 1 damage and gain 1 generic energy for each die below four that you drew. For example, if you drew only two dice from the bag, you would gain 2 generic energy and take 2 damage.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that it gives you the energy as well, but this would be a good question to pose to WizKids directly, as I can't really speak with authority about this.

    • @TaskMaster5
      @TaskMaster5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rrod913 If I understand the question: If you pull your four dice for turn and roll them, and you roll a Relentless action dice as one of those four, and you land on a !, you have to resolve Relentless' action, which is turn the ! into a 2 energy.After doing that, you may choose any single Sidekick or Character dice and reroll that. Once you do, you now may choose to continue with the reroll portion of your roll/reroll step. You may reroll the dice you changed using Relentless if you so desire.
      Relentless basically ensures you get 2 energy and a free shot at getting a character or energy on another dice.

      RJ Banez Dice and Cards are not particularly expensive. TrollandToad sells dice and cards pretty cheap. Commons and Uncommons sell from .50 - $1 for once dice and 1 matching card, while rares usually go for about $6 though that might change depending on how competitive they are. Super Rares seem to go for very high prices though, typically $25 plus. Though, if you like to buy boosters, for a dollar you get 2 random dice with matching cards.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried that. There could be, but I think it's more about the synergies between the cards and their effect, than through similar dice types, but there are some effects that work off of certain energy based characters.

    • @BraveSirPatrick
      @BraveSirPatrick 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't have enough different energy characters, you may not be able to purchase dice (except basic actions). You normally roll only 4 dice per turn, so lacking characters of 1 or 2 of the energy types limits your options when you don't roll energy types your characters need. If it happens a few times, you may have a hard time catching up.

    Question: In the attack phase, does a player have to commit all attackers initially, or can a player send some dice into an attack action and after resolving start a new attack with other dice in the field? In other words, can a player attack more than once on their turn?

    Ready to Rocket! action card (Age of Ultron) says "Target CHARACTER DIE gets +2A..." but then goes on to say: "Teamwork: another target CHARACTER gets +2A..."
    Ive heard that "character" applies to all dice belonging to a character card, if so then this action seems oddly lopsided, as though you can boost a single die, and then multiple dice if they share the same affiliation.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samuel Kellar-long I'm not sure I understand entirely, as there should be no deck of cards on the table when you play the game. Instead, each player pre-builds their team, and those are all laid out on the table individually, with the starting dice on them, along with the Basic Action cards that were chosen.
      I'm wondering, do you mean, can a player, during the game, decide to add in a new character from their collection of cards they have bought at a store, but didn't include in the team that the started the game with? In that case, no. All of the players know exactly what they are facing once the game begins. You can't start adding new members to your team in the middle of a game.
      Does that help? You should ask your friend where they saw this rule. I'd be curious to know.

      matrix23456 Hey - sorry I can't be of more help. I've only worked with the original set. Might be a good question to put to WizKids directly, or to post on Board Game Geek.

      I am Curious though, just wondering, where do you pick up most of your games?

      matrix23456 Local stores, some online, sometimes at conventions. Wherever I run into them :)

      I had a simular question with ultron since you capture all blockers will all damage go through or was everyone blocked

  • @somagai467
    @somagai467 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the point of capturing dice? It doesn't seem to benefit anyone but the captured die and only lasts until the end of the turn of whenever the die was captured.

      It's been a little while since I recorded this, so I'm having trouble thinking of a good example off the top of my head, but it's one of those cases where when you see a situation where it could be helpful, it makes sense :)

      Got'cha. Love your videos and I just started playing and collecting Dice Masters stuff recently and me and my buddy ran across some cards that use Capture, but it didn't seem too useful.
      Thank you for your expedient reply, however!

      I've been playing for about a year, so I am by no means an authority, but the way I see it, say both players have 2 character dice in the field. You use your capture ability, before you start attacking, so you could capture 1 of the two opponents characters, making that character die useless for your opponent. Therefore, your opponent can not block or use any special abilities from the character card. That way you can proceed to attack and the opponent may block with the one die they have left, but you could attack with both of your die and one of them would be unblocked, so the attack would cause damage to the player. Make sense?

    Hey, me again, me and a friend have run into a small bit of text "when such and such character is active, your opponent must pay 2 to use basic dice" and just wondering what do we pay 2 of, haven't been able to figure that out, any help you can offer is much appreciated, thanks.

      matrix23456 Hey, sorry I can't be much help, I would need to see the text to know.

      matrix23456 Whenever it says Pay 1/2 etc. it means pay that number of any type of energy. Similar to fielding costs, the type doesn't matter, just the amount of energy.

    • @matrix23456
      @matrix23456 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I cleared it up, for the card i was talking about, it's life, not energy. I appreciate the help.

      Hey, sorry, I can't help with individual card effects. Perhaps someone else in the comments will know the answer though.

    • @Bedeion

      In order to KO a character with Iron Will, they need to be damaged first. So for example if you are using Hulk - Jade Giant and you want to KO Superman - Invulnerable (who has Iron Will) he cannot be KOd unless he has been previously damaged that turn (like from combat or magic missile global). Hope this helps.

    Hey. This might be a noob question, but Psylocke, Betsy Braddock kinda confuses me. Does she remove a die with fielding cost 2 or less, or does the cost refer to the dice purchase cost? I would think the former, but insta-exile on fielding cost 2 seems way too good. Kept chumping and re-fielding with her yesterday and ousted Apocalypse a number of times.

      My interpretation would be it's the purchasing cost, but this really would be a question for the wizkids folks, as they would be the final authority.

    • @TaskMaster5
      @TaskMaster5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Watch It. You move a sidekick or a character who costs 2 to purchase. They would specifically state Fielding Cost of 2 or less if that's what they meant.
