@@blackwunk bruh dogs literally pulling you on a chariot yes the dog will first need a lot of muscle to do this but then it will gain muscle like crazy.

As much as I love the idea.. I‘m afraid this variant of kart could do serious damage to the dog‘s back after a long time. I saw great karts with three or four wheels. That should take the pressure of the back.
This is the original purpose for Bernese Mountain Dogs. They just want 2b by their person and help them carry the load
@@talesfromtheleashbernieamy1960 there's nothing wrong about that. I know. I'm just saying she probably should get a different cart, that doesn't put that much pressure on the back.
Supposedly these carts balance the weight towards the back of the cart, and basically relieve some pressure from the dog's own body weight as well as remove all pressure of the cart and rider off the dog, actually making it easier for the dog to walk or run than normal because it's sort of lifting their feet off the ground (if you can understand what I mean).
In this video it doesn't seem like that, so idk if I fully trust what I've heard. Plus, that might be true for taller dogs and/or the right sized cart with the dog, but for a shorter dog it might not work that way.
There might be a method to extend the long bars and lean backwards.

We have a 4 month old German Shepherd. My goal, when he's old enough, is to train him for this. We're working on getting him to be really great on a leash first. Lol
What kind of harness does your dog have
It's a special harness for carts.
I have an English mastiff who I have taught to pull a cart with my kids riding and me holding the leash and my dog loves it. My question is how do I teach him to pull with me riding and teach him what directions to go ? He has always been an easy dog to teach when I know how to teach him but I don’t know how to teach him that.
I trained my dogs to stop, go, left, and right mainly by walking and saying those commands just during the regular walks. I also taught them more of the left and right commands by getting them to shake/give me their paw, by saying "shake right (paw) or "shake left" (paw).
I should add I've used "hike" for go so it doesn't sound similar to "no". And I use "woah" or "easy" for slow so it also doesn't sound like "no". And I use "ho, stop" when I want to fully stop.

They're super expensive. Try a miniature pony cart. But you'll still need a special dog harness for that cart also.

I know this is 8 years ago, but I hoped you learned not to put so much weight on the dog. You can balance yourself on the cart to there is little to no weight on the dogs back or shoulders. It really is not that hard to do. Otherwise, add a wheel to take your weight.
how can you determine the weight a dog can safely pull in a cart?
I think it is really about conditioning your dog. The shepherd in the video was in really great shape. The dog should pull an empty cart for several weeks before putting a person in it. You should also know how to read your dog to determine if they enjoy pulling and be able to read if your dog is getting tired at any point.
Where do we get carts like this, or the materials to build them? Working on training my staffy-lapponian herder mix for pulling, going to build muscle on her first though to make sure I’m not hurting her if she pulls me. She likes pulling when I put her in her sled harness so hopefully she’ll like carting
You might look at carts designed for miniature horses, it looks like that's what she's using .

Make the guide sticks longer so your dog can have more leg room!
You'll mess up the turn radius and the physical stimulus/response that way. Dogs aren't horses.
When you're driving a single dog it needs to be kept tight and close

How does the weight stay off the dog with cart only having 2 wheels?
You have to balance it. This girl is not doing that. If you can't, get a cart with a third wheel in the front to take the weight. It's just unnecessary to do it this way.

How did you teach you dog to pull?
Sarah Alanis we taught him to walk beside a bike first. Then we would have someone ride a bike beside him while he was pulling cart and he would want to keep up with the bicycle. Then we just faded the bike out. It also helps initially if you have a route that is consistent so the dog learns it.
That's what I want help out doing it with 2 smaller dogs
Dog should have shoes or Musher's Secret if you're going to be on the pavement for long periods of time!

Too many people spoil their dogs as if they were human kids. Original uses for dogs were more than just mere companionship. In the medieval times, they were not considered pets but workers that helped out in milling flour by turning the grind stone or turning fire spits to roast game or even other meats including their own kind. In the farms they carry items for the Farmers and transport objects and items for them. Dogs were usually not fed till they were too old as they will no longer be of any use and became a festive meal for the family. Yes that was how the medieval peasantry and people view animals and that is from historical findings.
That aside they are meant and were bred to work and serve their masters

I want to do this because my border-rott can walk way longer than I can, but considering I'm already overweight I'm scared people will think I'm lazy.
He and I have drastically different energy levels and I want ways to accommodate his needs without hurting myself.

Try riding a bike and let your dog run along side of the bike, on a leash of course. The bike is the great equalizer.
@@faykaelin5617 Agreed! You can travel longer distances faster using less energy because of the bike! I plan to teach my rott how to run along side a bike properly as well as other things ofc, carting, agility, conformation, dock diving, obedience, rally. Man this dog will have an eventful life.
The weiht seme to be to much on he dog. When you find the riht balance it will be smooter. The shoulders will moves with more freedom

@@sarahhavillamelooliveira5825 I dont really know actually. This cart looks pretty good but I would adjust the weight more behind. Less at the front or more at the back. Or move fhe wheels forward a bit to have a better balance.... I'm not a pro though

That’s where
I don't think people understand that dogs need jobs and "training". They're explorers, by nature, and what people call "learning" is actually a corrupt form of exploration. Training is about exploring and discovering what you want them to do, how you want them to do it and the payoff. The "discovery". And if you don't provide what nature would, they'll explore, discover, create jobs and learn things themselves - the results of which won't always be pleasant for their "owners". And I put that in quotes because nobody owns nature.
Of course, "punishment" is NOT natural in an environment they can't escape - but rewards are. Discovery, newness - that's the payoff in exploration. A variety of rewards. And not just treats and toys. Exploration is about experience. The discovery of new experience and whether or not one enjoys it. Plus, if you raw feed, treats may not even work as they'll be getting what they need from their food so you have to get creative because, if you don't, THEY will. And, of course, a dog will do just about ANYthing for you if the reward is a great big belly rub. But they'll even get bored with belly rubs, if they get them all the time. They need NEW experiences. That's the payoff with exploration. NEWness. That's what discovery is. Something NEW. Whether it's you being satisfied by something they've discovered or done or even excited and genuinely happy about it. I think every dog should have a backpack to carry something for you. Even if it's just the TV remote.
And in playing or training, you can use a code word for "New.". A signal that tells them that you and they are going to be doing something new.
Obviously, kids are excellent work and explorations for dogs because they're natural explorers, too. Just about any breed of "family dog" will "shepherd" and protect small children and the children will train them, naturally. A child is going to communicate with its own brand of growling, snarling and "checking" as WELL as rewarding, exploring and discovering. Before mom and dad fill their child with "drama queen" ways of dealing with dissatisfaction, the child and the dog are going to speak the same language which can seem quite telepathic to ordinary people - i.e. "drama queens". Animals don't enjoy human drama, unless they have a job - i.e. someone to protect from it. It's unnatural. Man's brand of long, whiny, drawn out, repetitive, dead-horse-beating drama is unnatural but, even so, it also provides an opportunity to explore the phenomena itself and all of man's various responses to it which, in turn, provides discoveries.
I think dog carts are awesome. Not specifically or always for hauling people around but as opposed to merely "walking". Even if they're just hauling your water bottle and their own water jug and bowl and being rewarded by the "Ooohs" and "Ahhhs" of others. Work is the best alternative to natural exploration for animals confined by people. And work with variety is the next best thing to the freedom to explore as one sees fit. Exploration is a dog's life's "work". Which is what all "work" should be, in my opinion.
If you own a business, try moving your employees around. Give everyone the opportunity to explore/discover/"learn" all of the tasks required to get the "job" of business done. Yes, you'll lose some as they go out on their own but if you do this, you'll also have nothing but high quality explorers lined up around the block to take their place when they leave the nest. New blood with new interests, new explorations, new discoveries and new ideas!
Life is all about exploration. Life IS exploration and the discovery of newness. If there wasn't anything new to discover, the very first spark of life would have rolled over and gone right back to sleep. And discovery is great, of course, but it's the exploration that's "the point" - the perpetual newness in it. The "journey". Not the "destination". Leave the "being told what's what", and given "the last word" on things and...well...the "learning" crap to the corrupt, sociopolitical "education" system and explore and encourage exploration instead.
ps - even dogs have interests so, what's exploration for one might be boring for another that isn't "raised" and "shown the ropes" by a more experienced dog but they'll let you know where their interests lie.

I don't think this is a good idea. What about the dogs's back? He is not a horse. The dog is pulling 3-4 times his weight.

I give it a thumbs down because I just don’t like the idea of “ one “ dog pulling.
One dog can pull a surprising amount of weight comfortably.
The pulling isn't the issue. It is the weight across the dog's back. She should be balancing the cart to the weight is not resting across that strap. If she can't balance it, she should have a third wheel supporting the weight.
Too much weight on the dogs shoulders the cart is not balanced. A GSD shoulders are not meant to support weight, pull and run. I hope anyone watching doesn't try this at home. If this dog did this much I am guessing he is worn down something awful in the past few years.
This dog lived for 13 years before cancer finally got him. He never had any shoulder problems and was very active in his senior years. Your assumption that "he is worn down something awful" is just flat out wrong. He loved pulling that cart and would get so excited when we brought it out.
You're not supposed to put weight on a dog's back but pulling is not an issue with the right equipment. It can be good exercise and keep them happy.
Speaking without education is confident ignorance. The German shepherd was a farm dog, the ultimate canine known for its versatility. You know what destroyed the breed? People with your mentality that cant handle seeing a dog with a job. What's wrong with physical and mental exercises for dogs like this when done properly?
@@yungsilverback789 You are wrong. The OP is correct. I am VERY educated in driving. It is simple to do it correctly, and in this video it was done wrong, plain and simple. ALL they had to do was balance so the weight was not on the dog's shoulders. And instead they argue. There is noting wrong with driving the dog IF it is done correctly. This is not it.

The weight of the person is on the wheel. Very little weight is on the dog. It's not bad for the dog.
