    off the end of the platform looks best - very therapeutic watch . As a window cleaner of over 50 years loved to see your man with his ‘A’ frame ladder , or ‘ half a stick’ as we call it or tap (taper) ladder. Nice modelling skills .

    It’s a history lesson and an art lesson in one, fascinating how they utilised what they had at hand to use back in the day. Recycling isn’t nothing new. Brilliantly crafted as usual Tony, they add even more detail to what is already an exceptional layout. Thank you for sharing, stay safe and have a great weekend.

      Good morning Mr Rock n Roll. Absolutely recycling was never a new thing. even as a kid we took back empty pop bottles to the shop for money back in the 70s. but now we recycle for free. and get charged for doing so. funny how things have changed. many thanks for commenting. have a great weekend cheer's Tony.

    As soon as I saw the photo of the lamp hut, I thought “coffee stirrers “. I guess that shows how embedded I am in modelling now. I’m using them to create fencing at the moment. I must say, though, you have taken their use to another level in scoring them to make them thinner. Great job Tony. Always a pleasure to watch. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

    Great video! It's also a good display of using materials together to build things with - thoughtfulness and imagination at their very best! Sometimes we just don't think of things we can use to do our modelling with. I recently saw another site where a man was refurbishing some old Triang coaches and they had no interiors so he did something that I would never have thought of - he built the coach interiors out of cardboard using an old document binder cover to make the interiors and after painting they looked great. Placing your little hut...I think your first choice at the foot of the platform looked best. Thanks again Tony.

    You might already have one, but can I suggest investing in model making guillotine.
    I worked in Ikea for five and a half years and enjoyed a coffee or two. It will be some time before I run out of stirrers! The guillotine is ideal for chopping repeatable lengths and, even when it doesn't chop right through the stirrer the resulting cut makes them easy to snap off. Obviously it's also good for plastic.
    If you haven't tried it, dipping them in a vinegar/wire wool mix gives a lovely grey weathered wood finish which varies depending on the wood in the stirrer. Cheers

    Great detail. As usual, the small details make the realism.

    Good builds again, another detail that a lot of us would miss
    I would place it either at the foot - off the platform - or on the platform, I think placing it in front of the signal would be wrong as it would be hidden from anyone coming out of the lamp hut, however if that is the prefered option it may require laying boards to cross the tracks towards the platform end

      Good morning James. The census of opinion seems to be saying the same on the platform or at the end of the platform. as you know space is very tight. so i will have to make a small change to the platform to incorporate the hut and also the small building behind the hut. which to me looks like a canteen for the staff. many thanks for commenting. and we shall comment again. stay safe my friend. Interesting conundrum, Tony! I'd be very surprised if a lamp hut was positioned on the platform of a passenger station - stations needing such a thing would have a dedivcated lamp room. Lamp huts were positioned at eplaces esaily accessible to railway staff but inpositions that did not interfere with the siglalman's view of train movements. Often they were posiyioned near othe huts in a goods yard (which does not apply here) or near a signalbox where someone is close by in case of problems. Of your three positions, the one at the end of the platform seems to be the best option as the one near the signal is really to close to the track for satety.

    • @TONYNORTHEASTERN
      @TONYNORTHEASTERN  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hello Ken. Interesting reading your comment as i have just finished putting a platform extension in for the location of the hut, and by doing so leaves me enough room for the other shed that was in the photo. which i think was a loco crew change over cabin or canteen.
      All the other lamp huts have gone to very different area's of the layout. M.P.D now has one. but yes i do agree with what you are saying. lamp huts should be accessible for station staff. interesting as always reading your comments. thanks again my friend. cheer's Tony.

    Aneat little build mate. In your historical photo it is on the platform as is the little white building. However, as you have your nameboard, light and garden already sited, you do not have the room for both buildings in that site. Good morning Tony. That’s a really unique construction, nice to see vertical sleepers being used complements the horizontal ones for flower beds. Do like how the super glue enabled those neat curved edges on the roof apexes to be formed; excellent. On photo is there not a stubby little ventilator chimney on the lhs corner? On gravel at the end of the station looks best to me, at least on my screen…and out of way of the passengers and not obstructing the signals. Hope you are refreshed ready to finish off that roof and canopy. We seem to have dodged a ton of snow so far as we hover around freezing, heavy frosts so unusually warm here, much welcome for our Remembrance Day parade and for the soldiers and cadets too. Very nice build Tony, but I think you may have missed the chimney on the left hand side of the photo. It is the North=East and there would have been a coal stove inside to stop stuff from freezing, so a chimney would have been attached. From what I remember of the one at South Dock in Sunderland the sleepers were painted in coal tar to preserve them and were a black colour. All the best mate.

    I think it should be at the end of the platform. Looking at the photos of the lamp hut it looks to me that there is a chimney at the back of the hut. I am not sure, but it looks like the Oil Barrel is mounted outside the hut. It make sense to have it there, Now going back to my Uncle Jack. He used to clean the oil lamps in the hut, trim or replace the wick if necessary and then take them outside to fill them up with paraffin. He would light them just before swapping them over and then put the empty ones back in the shed for tomorrow. He would then walk up the line to the next lamp hut and do the same. I do not know how many he had to do daily, but he could not go home until the last one was finished. Martin. (Thailand)🧞‍♂🧞‍♂🧞‍♂
