  • In this part I show you how I've laid the track and finally get the collection back up and running on the new layout.
    Took a long time to do this one which is why there was a long delay since the last video.

    It's always a pleasure to see one of your videos, Richard, as well as the progress you've made on the new layout. With the quality of your content, please don't worry about how time elapses between videos. They are well worth any wait. Thank you for posting.

      As it happens, I HAVE seen a great many of your videos. It's been a bit though, so I didn't connect your name here to Dean Park Station at first. Your caravan (we call them trailers..lol) park stands out in my mind, but those certainly aren't the only ones I've watched. I don't do any sharing, I'm not in any social media except Google+. I quit Facebook a couple of years ago because their CEO is such a dick. But I still enjoy the content, seeing the creative process, even though I have neither the room nor money for a layout of my own. You've brought your layout a long way and I will continue to watch. Have a great day..! Bob

    Actually sounds like a railway. You have nailed that clickety clack sound with the 60 foot lengths. Impressed that such a small detail can do so much to enhance the layout. Fantastic idea.

    Richard, beside the fact that you did a tremendous amount of work since you're last video
    I imagine as you said in the video the pleasure of earring the noise of the train running again
    and "what a collection", I think that you also excel in making you're video's & the music.
    Thank you.

    Excellent work there Richard. The track work your doing is well worth the effort, a pain in the butt to do but well worth it. I'm one of those twats who will use totally hand made track so will have to thread all the chairs on the rail as well. On a slight negative, where you join the concrete sleepers to the wooden sleepers at point work I noticed you cut down the concrete sleepers to fit. In reality they would have used wooden ones as wood is easier to cut than concrete. Also when you want to create the 60' panels, rather than cutting all the way through the rail just cut half way. Once you've added the fishplates they will look the same but you won't have to worry about soldering to electrify the joint. Anyway great to see trains running again and really looking forwards to the next update. Well done.

    The one thing I find frustrating is that we have had concrete sleepered flexi-track for decades and 2 turnouts since 2010. We now have steel sleepered and bi-block, but are still expected to use wooden sleepered turnouts. Peco are one of the biggest manufacturers yet seem to ignore this.

    Interesting to see that you are running the lines as an up-down-up-down config rather than up slow - up fast - down fast - down slow that we have on the ECML. Excellent video, and well worth the wait

    • @TheRip72
      @TheRip72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a model of the GW, which is laid out fast-fast-relief-relief. The GE is also fast-fast-slow-slow, as is the WCML until Roade where the slow lines detour to Northampton. It then becomes slow-fast-fast-slow through most of the Trent Valley.

  • @thescrapline4905
    @thescrapline4905 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant! It's good to see the overall finish with the spaced sleepers. Though I've slowed down on mine to enjoy summer I've made a steady start on the long slow process of 're-spacing and using a mixture of all the fine scale track - bullhead, wooden and concrete sleeper flat bottom - should look very effective. A huge amount of my time has been spent having to research the correct types of track down and around Exeter St David's station so countless images later I've got it virtually spot on.
    Itching to run something 🤣

    This is model railway porn. Richard, you are a genius, your attention to detail, respacing the sleepers, cutting the track to scale 60’ lengths, banking the curves, whatever next. Stuff you’ve forgotten is more than I’ll ever know about model railways. I don’t care if I have to wait another two months for your next video if it’s going to be as good as this one. The trains running at the end, as I said, model railway porn. If it looks this good now, what’s it going to look like when there’s a bit of gravel and static grass thrown at it? Thanks for sharing Rich.

    That cork didn't really suppress the noise from a train on the baseboards 🤣
    Great intro 👍

    • @TheRip72
      @TheRip72 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cork absorbs a lot of the sound but the glue stiffens a lot up to transmit it again. It would be a lot noisier if it was laid directly onto baseboard or PVA was used instead of Copydex. The cork also provides a ballast shoulder, which is sometimes prototypical.

    Thanks a lot for the bulk of helpfull information - in particular the bullhead joiners and the classic track length of 60ft - what makes in 0-scale half a yard. And in 0-9 this makes really a huge difference. So your information is very very welcome. Also your weathering of the trains will be "copied" due to the industrial/rural countryside. Your videos do really made my day!
    But as I cannot effort a DCC layout I have the question if the soldering of the turnouts for better connection: Is this also useable for DC?

      Ha ha aye lad, and back t'shipyard for me it is. I'm sure working for Bachmann or Hornby certainly would certainly be no picnic though, especially in the current climate. You'd be under constant pressure of deadlines, cost saving, quality control headaches, endless meetings and overtime coming out of your ears. So after a week of all that, the last thing you'd want to do is work on your model railway layout!

  • @edwardhugus2772
    @edwardhugus2772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Out of curiosity.... I agree that big plastic boxy connectors for those "T" joints at the wiring buss connections look awful, but shouldn't you have used heat shrink tubing at those joints for corrosion prevention and short circuit protection? Sorry if you plan on that and just showed the bare joints to illustrate the point. Love the new setup, I think you'll be happy about all of the extra time you spent on sleeper placement. Will they ever make OO scale correct spacing track for all of you modelers?

    Hi Richard great progress made. Definitely worth doing the sleeper spacing. And your right what you say about the mix on concrete and wooden sleeper track as a driver I see it all the time. One thing that popped into my mind when you showed how close the mark3s were was the APT-E will that be able to go on the fast lines if u have say a hst running or will it just go on the slow lines as and when it's out and about? Looking forward to the next video. Cheers

      Irish gauge is 5'3". This is a gauge used in Brazil, along with metre gauge. They actually call it Irish gauge. Spanish or Iberian gauge is 5' 5 and a bit". Which is why you have to change trains in Port Bou or Cerbere. SNCF being Standard. Both gauges go through the tunnel at the border but they are single track. You change on the destination side. The stock returns empty. There is gauge changing equipment in Port Bou for freight and the Trans Europe Express when it ran. I saw it once or twice in Narbonne station. Wiki says bogies are changed in Cerbere but it was in a big shed behind Port Bou station when I was last there. At La Tour de Carol in the Pyrenees, the station has 3 gauges. Iberian, Standard and Metre for Le Petite Train Jaune (The Little Yellow Train) to Perpignan. There is also a bus service to Andorra outside the station. Sorry to ramble on. Getting nostalgic.

    Nice to see the new layout coming along nicely . What did you use to keep the track in alignment ? Ie not kinky ! It’s not easy in my experience to keep it from going a little wonky .

      While laying the track I kept looking down the line as if I was a driver. Any kinks became obvious and were corrected before I weighted the track down.

    Excellent video Richard really gave me food for thought on what I'd like to do with my next project. I noticed your coaches were close coupled, which system do you use for this prototypical result?

      The coaches you saw are bachmann mk1s & 2s. They can be close coupled straight from the box, not modifications required.

    How do you keep track clean for dcc operation when permenantly stuck down? This is a constant problem for my n gauge layout

    A great video as always Richard, it's great now the layout is starting to take shape...or I could say "get on track". (*pause for laughter*)
    Anyway, why DO the manufacturers make track with incorrect sleeper spacing? Is it just easier? Or cheaper, perhaps?

      The HO market is bigger than the OO market presumably - same track.

    Hello,I am thinking of building a model railway,Is it expensive to start up.

      Yes, in these times it can be rather expensive to get started. I was lucky, when I started 10 years ago the hobby was about 50% cheaper than what it is now. You can still find bargains but it requires some shopping around. Cheers
