- A viewer told me that the south African team, the Springboks, won the last World Cup so I decided to react to some of their greatest plays. As you can tell by watching this vid that team is NO joke they are insanely organised and a blessing to the sport I'm already a fan lol

TH-camrs could literally google and get some facts about the sport and teams they’re reacting to instead of blabbering about whether or not they won some ‘league’ this past. I respect TH-camrs who do that research
Well said! I just don’t understand how they can go in knowing nothing as it completely unfolds the whole idea of watching a video to learn about something. The video doesn’t start with explanatory notes, just big hits etc and how can you know what is happening then?
@@ianarnett Agreed! Its awesome that more and more people are starting to SEE what rugby is, but fully agree, do some reasearch before trying to comment on the sport.
Manie Libbok ( nr.10) being called the Iniesta of Rugby 🏉 is a first.
I like it.😄👍
Bro why are you so negative lol. These are some great tries and every time you're focussing on the defence. If you watched a compilation on great defence, you would be moaning about how bad the attack was lol. You can only criticise when you now what you're talking about
He's a clown.....young dumb and full of come
Agree, I understand he does not understand rugby as NFL focuses on defence, not much skill there as in rugby. I suggest he gets to understand more to make better opinions as he has no idea of the great skills evident in those tries scores. Try stopping a player coming at speed, with deft foot skills! Also, be nice to the defenders - they are taught defensive skills but not good enough when greater skill makes you look like idiots.
I thought I was the only one who noticed this. I watched the whole thing because I hoped he'd stop at some stage. It was awful to watch
Love seeing rugby newbies!
Tackling rules: You cannot tackle someone above the shoulder, this is a "High tackle" and will give the team of the player who was tackled a penalty and depending on how dangerous the tackle was, could lead to a yellow or red card for the player who made the dangerous tackle. (The reason those three guys missed was purely due to the pace of the players and quick passing)
Time DOES not stop in rugby, it is always continuous play unless the ref stops time for an injury or to assess/review a previous passage of play to make a penalty decision.
YES, New Zealand (The "All Blacks") do the "Haka" in rugby, they do it before every game as a sign of respect for the "war" to be had and to their opponents.
That particular kick "pass" is called a "Grubber", in rugby you are allowed to kick it forward and it be chased and received by your teammate AS LONG as he is "on-side" meaning he is behind the player who kicked the ball when it is kicked, if the chaser is in front of said kicker then he will be "off-side" and give a penalty to their opponents.
The "Awful pass" at 18:08 wasn't intended as an attacking "pass" but more of a clearance kick to get them out of their own "22" (the 22-meter mark away from their own try line), so it was more of a defensive play.
In respect for the Irish and English team's defense, these are only highlights so you only really see the breakthroughs, the springboks give away some "easy" points OFTEN too, but keep in mind all these guys are pro athletes that train and play for a living so they are the best of the best, you can't always stop someone coming full steam at you or who caught you off guard.
The top three rated international teams right now are Springbok, NZ, and Ireland. All worth checking out.
Much love from a South African, watch some "big hit" videos to see some massive tackles and if you like the stepping, there are loads of compilations on YT too!
Thank you for your input I'll check out the "big hit" vids as you've suggested!
@@Angel_kon also you can only play/tackle the guy with the ball thats why you can't block like in the NFL
Couple of points to questions you had:
American football is VERY different from Rugby on many aspects.
Springboks = South Africa Rugby team. Essentially the teams symbol. They are the current world champions (Back to back) held every 4 years.
They've become a lot stricter with tackles over the past few years. Has to be low (below shoulders). No head contact. The attacking player with the ball also can't hit or use their arms against the tackling players head. (Very contentious currently in rugby)
3:11 - You have to put the ball down on the ground to get a "Try" The reason why the run closer towards the rugby poles is because after the try they get a chance to kick the ball over the poles for 2 more points. Where they kick the ball from is based on where the put the ball down for the "Try". If the ball is put down near the touch lines on the side, they need to kick from that angle towards the poles vs kicking right in front of the poles.
6:26 - You can kick the ball forward and as long as the people that are chasing the ball were behind the initial kicker they can go for it (Otherwise they need to fall back). Kicking forward is not the same as passing forward.
The height difference guys were Faf De Klerk (1.71m) and (2.06m) Guy scoring the try was Cheslin Kolbe (1.72m) So it's absolutely not just all about size. Rugby's made for all sizes and speeds with their different positions. Forwards are usually the big guys up front pushing and the back are usually smaller and quicker running with the ball. One exception and legend was Jonah Lomu (1.96m) and ran the 100m in 10.7 seconds.
16:05 - France (Host nation) vs South Africa in the Quarter Finals for the World Cup in 2023 is considered by some as one of the best rugby games of all time. Highly recommend watching highlights or if you can find the full game.
New Zealand vs 2011-2015 were considered "Unstoppable"
Current Springboks (South Africa) are also very good
Ireland are also a VERY good team over the past couple of years.
Check out Cheslin Kolbe and Jonah Lomu.
This guy must be invited to play ONE game of rugby. And all of a sudden (if he's not still recovering in hospital).... he'll feel like an ass. Image watching a lightning speed game, at an angle, and calling someone ass for not getting to a winger.😂 And this from a Springbok (aka South African) fan.
Thank you 👍!
Love it!! New sub from South Africa 🇿🇦 home of the Springboks ❤
remember in American football they don't pass as often. So when someone makes a run, you can just go for the hit, without worrying about the pass (you have to worry about blockers though, in rugby you can't block).. In rugby you have no pads, so easier to maneuver out of tackles, you can pass to a team mate. You can kick forward and the play doesn't stop, but if you don't have the ball you can't be tackled. The play is also continuous so a team works towards creating space for attackers. defenders also have to hold their line and not create gaps in the line, whereas in football, defenders be running all over the place. It's very different due to these factors
Spot on
Excellent
Your podcast, I have to say, was captivating! Your critical perspectives on the attacks and defences were incredibly insightful. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment! Unfortunately, I had to leave early on as I was painting and had to watch the paint dry.😜
When you run over the trie line, the goal then is to dot the ball down as close to the poles as possible, so as to allow for a easier conversion thru the post.
The level of knowing nothing about rugby is -0 and then is critical of certain players 4:32
The ignorant arrogance is absolutely priceless
Welcome to the world of Rugby, the more you learn the moe you love it,the South Afrocans are world Champs, but there are other teams out there that are contesting the title, carry on learning about this game, its growing world wide.
You are reacting to Rugby from a perspective of Footballer and the 2 games are worlds apart. I can only make one comparison which is that you should look at Rugby like taking a freekick at goal in Football.
You have a wall of Defenders and the Goal Keeper who are most likely to stop the ball from going in. But if the striker kicks it perfectly over the wall and into the top corner of the goal faster than the keeper can get a hand on it, then you are most likely going to say "good freekick" and not blame the wall or the goal keeper. It is simply the precision and speed of the kick and not about the lack of defensive skill.
Most attacking plays in rugby are like that. Defenders are (for the most part) where they are always supposed to be, and for good reason. If the attacking team over comes the other teams defense, its based on tactics and quick thinking which beat that defense and rarely the lack of it.
Bro there are 15 players each side how can it be easy to score they have to make gaps
That defender is one of the best in the world actually
South African here, and also a football fan. There's different ways to kick a rugby ball to control the bounce - even if it is a little "lucky" that kick was still calculated to bounce that way. I've always thought rugby players could learn a thing or 2 from football in terms of through balls or cross field balls.
Prime New Zealand won back to back World cups, they're also the greatest team in the world historically. Forget rugby, football, cricket, the New Zealand rugby team has always been a cut above the rest.
They're South Africa's greatest rivals. The Springboks are super special, we've participated in the fewest World Cups but won the most (4) and beat the All Blacks in the last final who have won 3. They final was to decide who would get to 4 World cups first.
This South African team is also a prime team.
I'd say react to Cheslin Kolbe next, he's insane. He's the guy who scored the try in the 2019 world cup final.
Yep, he'll get a heart attack and even more swearing when he sees Kolbe in action. Some clips of his top 20 tries on TH-cam as well. SA also won the last two World Cups.
"let him run through the defence" = the guys on the inside are trying to get there, because they were beaten by the pass, if the guy on the outside , turns in to hit the attacker, he just passes out and it's a score anyways.
No knowledge of the game, but an instant expert.
When the try is scored time only stops when the ball is grounded. Players will want to score as close to the poles when possible as the conversion kick is placed in line where the ball is dotted down, so closer to the poles will make the kick easier
2:52 your reaction time to noticing that rule is pretty impressive.
Dude, what you're doing would be like watching a video about the best goals scored in football, and then drawing the conclusion that there's no defence in football because goals keep getting scored and the player with the ball isn't getting tackled.
It's ridiculous.
Like 97% of runs end up with the guy getting tackled. You're literally watching videos of the 3% of times that someone beats the defence and scores.
Go watch an actual game of rugby. Or a highlight of big hits or tackles.
It's important to remember that players have to tackle safely and this isn't always possible if the players are running fast. These players are fast af
Bro, your the spitting image of Ian the music artist...
Another 30 second watcher of rugby who is an expert on defence and how a player stops a ball that has been kicked. If the guys knee had hit the other player there is every chance he would have been penalised for foul play. Of course South Africa are destroying the opponents….its a video of their greatest plays! Similar videos are available for other teams.
2 Most Dominant teams are South Africa Springboks 2019 to current and then the New Zealand All Blacks 2011 to 2015 as per your question at the end. Overall the Springboks and the AB's have always been the most feared and dominant teams in the History of the sport
The Springboks is the nickname for the national team of South Africa, who have won the last two World Cups back to back, 2019 and 2023 (World Cups are every 4 years), and they also won it in 2007 and 1995 (there a shitty movie about the 1995 victory starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon doing terrible South African accents)
Rugby teams are always looking to create mismatches.....fast vs slow (big men) and Big vs Small which explains why some of these tackles are unsuccessful. It's also easy to take your eye off the ball when a huge man is looking to flatten you.
There are two teams that's the G.O.A.T.S... That is the Springboks, and The All blacks from New Zealand.. Springboks won the worldcup 4 times, All blacks 3, Australia 2, and England one time. The Springboks and the All blacks have a great rivalry and History. You should look it up. Rugby is the most beautifull game in the world,,
You realize that Cheslin the short guy is too fast to handle
Each highlight is preceded by a period of pressurized plays ... and so people get distracted and looses the ball and make silly mistakes ... South Africa has great wings! Great tries!
I like the Iniesta comment, Liebok's pass is one of the best.
This game is what American football is based upon. You cannot tackle someone without the ball and no forward passing. That is the main difference. It also it staggering that someone would display a lack of knowledge so arrogantly... but that is the internet for you.
you're hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 thumbs up
Yeah you have to had played Rugby to understand how easy it is to miss a tackle. You’re basically running, giving and taking hits all the time. Even if you are the fittest player on the field. As a South African, no one was ass here. No one was a MF. These are all legends of the game.
You can kickpass. There is a good video called Rugby for beginners on youtube.Simple and not to long. No sport makes sense if you dont know the rules.
The reason players try to get as close to score by the posts as they can, after scoring a try they get a shot at goal for an extra two points that must be kicked in line from where the ball was grounded....5 points for a try & a extra 2 for the conversion...a penalty kick at goal is worth 3 points & a drop kick is worth 3 points...checking out the rules will help you understand a lil' better, bro
This guy has too much to say about something he does not understand
right?! so loud and wrong
1:00 poor romania
2:00 Springboks are south africa, it says it on the score line
2:20 Rules for tackling someone
-must have the ball or had possession when committing to the tackle
-Cant have head contact
-Must be in a safe manner, wrapping both arms, and cant lead with the shoulder
-It is the tacklers duty to ensure the player in possession of the ball is protected at all times
-Tackles can only be performed in open play not during setpieces or "dead ball", which is once a player is tackled during the formation of the ruck
-Both players must be standing/ grounded at time of the tackle
4:30 that defender was standing flat footed against one of the fastest wingers in the game, he was doomed before he even started
but if the defender kept his momentum he would have cut inside and not tackled the player either way
6:33 a pass is seen as from the hands, kicks are not included
6:40 if you suddenly need to turn around then you wont be catching anyone who has a headstart, and it was not expected
7:00 bad positioning my ass, both players were exactly where they could be, the issue is the kick was placed exactly where the AUS players would have to decide who goes for it, delaying action, and it was perfectly placed that the RSA player would reach there in the perfect amount of time, "knee first" the other guy didnt even jump, and if he hit the player in the head with his knee it would have been an instant RED CARD, they are extremely serious when it comes to head contact, and the player was actually side first not knee, also he jumped past the player not into him, the other player didnt even see him
8:20 "for a fucking defender thats bad" Lukhanyo Am is one of the highest iq players on the field, both sets of players are very tired and sweaty, this isnt football, tackles here are hard, dangerous, tiring and difficult to make, and Am is a very talented player and the "bad" defenders are one of the best defenses in the world, only problem is those guys are front row players, large boys and they are slower than Am
8:50 "South africans are destroying on every highlight" Thats a south african highlight reel for you, you can do the same with NZL, ENG, FRA thats what highlights are, the teams best moments
9:30 No football kicking doesnt translate, totally different ball shape, movement, size and weight
10:40 Thats why they hire D'allende, hes good with running and controlling ball movement, and it was a very physical match where he isnt a small guy
12:00 Kolbe is the guy known for his footwork, he does that to everyone, he is the worlds best winger on the ball
Hes a slippery guy, "british and irish lions have no defense" they are a combination of 4 of the worlds best teams (ENG, WAL, SCO, IRE), they are in the top 3 best defenses in the world
13:30 No look
14:00 Other team lost the ball because it is a rush defense, puts immense pressure on the player with the ball and forces mistakes in the best of times, can be heavily exploited, so the RSA team varies, they play a rush defense in the opposition 1/3, but play more reserved in the other 2/3, the RSA team develops their attack to be unpredictable at best and a mess for the other team to predict
16:00 Didnt get lucky, they know the ball, you can predict a bounce like that fairly accurately
19:50 the irish team is known for their defense
Sorry for the rant, but i love the sport so i will point out when people are talking out of their ass
If you want to see cool rugby stuff look at some full matches for RSA or NZL, the highlights are cool but you miss a lot of the actual game
Welcome to the sport of rugby hope you enjoy and stay for a while
Also here are all the rules of rugby, www.world.rugby/the-game/laws/home

You can only tackle the ball carrier.
You can’t pass forward, only back wards and lateral. You can kick the ball forward anything and use it as a pass to a team mate or even yourself.
You can not tackle a player while they are in the air as that is a dangerous play and will earn you a red card.

They have a horrible record vs Ireland lately Ireland have won 9 of the last 14 games.
4 of the last 5 games.
Brah, Ireland lost by 7 points in the first game and scraped through with a last minute drop goal to win by 1 point in the second. You only managed to draw a series and never ever won one, lost 4 from 5. Ireland are good but I wouldnt get ahead of yourself just yet.
