This is so much fun hearing him talk. It’s so personal and also relatable. By the way, I was at that Steve Miller band concert at the Fillmore East in 1970 and I actually remember that Steve said to the audience, “I know it’s a down home bummer being at the Fillmore”. What a thing to say.

Love him saw him in London during engine's of creation, Manchester (G3) with Vai and Fripp. Last time I saw him was with Chickenfoot with Kenny, Hagar and Michael Anthony. Hopefully see him again soon with Vai or playing Eddie's stuff.
Joe is the reason I picked up guitar. I played drums for 25 yrs. still do. once a drummer always a drummer. Then I heard joe and decided to try guitar. I was 30 yrs old at the time. 61 now and still buy everything he puts out. Such a humble and likable guy. Great interview.
Back in my real younger years around 8 years, I first became aware of John Mellencamp. It was his tunes, but then the Cougar tag that resonated with me. As a result of that, I found you and was a fan ever since. In my early teens I picked up guitar, and it was Joe who made me focus on the instrument. He still does today. Getting to see you both play together on the Earth tour was astounding. Saw you in Manchester and I had my original 1990 Flying in a Blue Dream tour shirt on. Seeing this, just made me happy. It’s a smile that will stick around for a good while - please get tether for a part II, and keep knocking these out. Love it Kenny
Too bad sports is all fixed. I use to love watching nfl college. The kneeling situation with kaperneck as well as the games rigged, i call3d it quites Besides that, i dont wztch tv. Im not interested in the propaganda they spew out for 20 minutes of every hour. Called programming 4 a reason. Same reaseon i dont listen to radio. Haven't 14 years.

Don't call it a night job. You guys tell us that ticket prices are for the dayjob of traveling, hotel check in &out and so on. The show is the fun not work time of the day for both players and audience.

Class act. Love his music and character. I will always remember the day when a buddy of mine gave me a copy of his tape Joe Satriani - Live in San Diego 1988 back in 1989. I was blown away. I worked in a factory 10 hr shifts and just wore this tape out. I learned SO much about the capability of electric guitar - emotion, expression, technique, phrasing and composition. And he did all this LIVE! Still to this day one of my favorite recordings. You gotta Google Joe Satriani - Live in San Diego 1988, its just that great. Lovely interview :)

I saw you at Talking Stick in Phoenix: you guys rocked but that venue is just awful, more like conference lunchroom than concert hall (their outdoors space is nice, but that room.... ). Rock on and hope to see you again before long! Maybe at the Celebrity Theater, that's one nice venue (for the audience anyway) :)
This was wonderful to watch. As much as I appreciate Mr. Satriani's talent and ability, I've never tuned in to his music and playing (ditto Vai, Lukather and several other hot American players). However, a decade ago I stood about 8 feet to the side of him whilst he was preparing to play an event at the Frankfurt Music Fair. The doors to the room hadn't yet opened, so there were only staff and me. And him. His headgear was firmly in place as were his shades. So was his tone. I find his sound somewhat 'processed' and his playing somewhat over-accomplished (my issue also with the aforementioned), yet I must admit, he sounded sensational, with killer tone and brief bursts of some great melodies as he tweaked his sound. Joe's mention that Jeff Beck couldn't be replaced is totally true. Which is possibly what Mr. Jagger was thinking when he enlisted Joe - he wanted someone sonically distant from Beck (and Keith) yet had great tone and melodic sensibilities, not some hotshot modal shredder. As for the success of an instrumental album in 'rock'. Jeff's 'Blow by Blow' and 'Wired' - I believe Joe and Steve Vai have said they learned every note from those - set the benchmark and opened the floodgates for the likes of the aforementioned and many others to not only record instrumental albums, but also have success...just as in 20 years from now some young player will score similar success because Joe, like Beck, proved that the possibility is very real. Joe seems to be a wonderful person. After watching this I will be paying closer attention. Thank you gents.

@@KennyAronoffOfficial Hearing Mahavishnu Orchestra ‘s The Inner Mountain Flame, Joe Pass playing solo guitar at Dontes and Van Halen’s first album (in that chronological order) were also passion inspiring moments. It wasn’t long thereafter that the path lead to Charlie Parker, Miles and Coltrane. If the music does not prompt an emotional response, it’s just frequencies and intervals. These days I like a lot of different styles of music. However, if it doesn’t provoke an emotional response, my interest won’t last long. Aloha. P.S. The first time I heard Flying In A Blue Dream passion flared. It still does.
such a great podcast. started playing in 84 at the age of 9. mainly rock and blues. i will never forget hearing joes surfing with the alien for the first time here in england. my chin was on the floor. i had never heard anything like it. my dad is a really good guitarist who got inspired me to play. he said he was not into it. but i knew he really was. he admitted that to me years later. then just the other month my mother said to me hey rob. i heard that joe satriani the other day and its amazing!! i was like mum. joes been my guitar hero most my life lol. amazing!

Jeff's 'Blow by Blow' and 'Wired' - I believe Joe and Steve Vai have said they learned every note from those - set the benchmark and opened the floodgates for the likes of the aforementioned and many others to not only record instrumental albums, but also have success...just as in 20 years from now some young player will score similar success because Joe, like Beck, proved that the possibility is very real.
Joe seems to be a wonderful person. After watching this I will be paying closer attention. Thank you gents.

IS: THE CONNECTION..... ITS ALL ABOUT THE CONNECTION WE SHARE WITH EACH OTHER, IN ANY EXPERIENCE TOGETHER.. AND IT IS THAT CONNECTION THAT IS MISSING IN TODAYS WORLD, IN EVERYTHING! SO WE NEED MORE CONNECTION! ( WE NEED MORE COWBELL TOO ) : p BUT WE REALLY NEED "CONNECTION" WITH EACH OTHER... I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT I THINK ALL THE SUCCESSFUL AND ACCOMPLISHED MUSICIANS OF THE PAST 40yrs! SHOULD ALL BE WORKING TOGETHER TO REBUILD THE "MUSIC BUISSNESS" USING THE SAME FRAMEWORK IT USED TO BE YEARS AGO! BECAUSE THAT IS ANOTHER CONNECTION THAT THE WORLD IS MISSING AND REALLY NEEDS! TODAYS MUSICIANS ARE NOT REALLY MUSICIANS.. THEY ARE USING COMPUTERS TO REPLACE THEIR OWN SKILLS AND ABILITIES, VOICES AND EMOTIONS.. WHICH MAKES FOR REALLY SHITTY "MUSIC".. AND NO REAL BANDS! WE HAVE TO CHANGE THAT, AND FAST! THERE ARE MANY YOUNG MUSICIANS OUT THERE HAVE NO DIRECTION, NO TEMPLATE, NO KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO BE AND DO WHAT THEY FEEL THEY ARE HERE TO BE DOING WITH THEIR LIVES! AND FOR THOSE WHO DO GET STARTED? THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO JUST BE THEMSELVES AND FOCUS ON MAKING GREAT MUSIC FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD TO ENJOY! : / I THINK ALL THE OLDER MUSICIANS WHO THE EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM, SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVING BACK TO THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS AND BE HELPING TO PRESERVE THE CONNECTIONS OF THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE MUSIC TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEED MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE WORLD! THE WAY THE ORIGINAL MTV DID IT! : ) OH AND I ALSO WANTED TO SAY THAT JOE NOT ONLY CAME UP WITH HIS OWN STYLE OF MUSIC.. BUT HE WAS THE NEXT PERSON/GUITARIST AFTER EDDIE VAN HALEN TO TAKE GUITAR TO THE NEXT LEVEL! IN TERMS OF APPROACH, EXPRESSION, STYLE, AND SOUNDS....... THAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE MENTIONED!

Hey Kenny. Mine was Purple Haze too. Heard it at a 7th grade dance and immediately knew I just had to make my guitar sound like that. My first 45 was Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf with Sookie Sookie on the B side. Hendrix revolutionized the electric guitar and it changed music forever

@@KennyAronoffOfficial Hearing Mahavishnu Orchestra ‘s The Inner Mountain Flame, Joe Pass playing solo guitar at Dontes and Van Halen’s first album (in that chronological order) were also passion inspiring moments. It wasn’t long thereafter that the path lead to Charlie Parker, Miles and Coltrane. If the music does not prompt an emotional response, it’s just frequencies and intervals. These days I like a lot of different styles of music. However, if it doesn’t provoke an emotional response, my interest won’t last long. Aloha. P.S. The first time I heard Flying In A Blue Dream passion flared. It still does.

such a great podcast. started playing in 84 at the age of 9. mainly rock and blues. i will never forget hearing joes surfing with the alien for the first time here in england. my chin was on the floor. i had never heard anything like it. my dad is a really good guitarist who got inspired me to play. he said he was not into it. but i knew he really was. he admitted that to me years later. then just the other month my mother said to me hey rob. i heard that joe satriani the other day and its amazing!! i was like mum. joes been my guitar hero most my life lol. amazing!
