I don't get some of the negative comments! Wired 16 channel cameras in 4k are in a totally different realm. That's pretty firmly in pro/commercial territory. You have to have the ability and space to run the cables, most homeowners don't have this ability or space to crawl around in to wire up. 1080p is just fine if you're trying to keep tabs on kids playing, someone prowling around, getting notifications for motion, etc. If you're looking to read license plates then go 4k, but not too many of those in most back/side yards. 4K also generates huge files, so you will need in house mega storage array or drive to house that much data. I've read if your wifi goes out, you don't get any videos. True, but if your wifi goes out, you don't get any alerts from hardwired stuff either! I even had enough space to drop down cables for 16 cameras, house hard drives, etc, etc. In the end, All that cable takes time and money. Hard drives wear out and can crash and cost money to replace. Everything has its pros and cons. I searched and searched for months trying to decide which way to go and in the end I went with Ring. They cost a bit more then most of the "generic" offerings, but less than half or better than the commercial grade, tough to install stuff I compared. Ring has a very easy to use app. Other family members have to use it as well, so easy keeps them off my back. In the end, ring ticked most of the checkboxes and we've loved them. 1080p is plenty of resolution for 95% of applications. if you're buying a dash cam, by all means, get the 4k or you won't be able to make out license plates beyond the car directly in front/back of you. For general home security use, 4k is way overkill for most people. We get better than accepted images from our ring cams and night vision is impressive. Also haven't had any audio issues with ours. I wouldn't call them HiFi by any means, but have no problem making out what is said. We use the audio feature quite frequently.

i've had zero problems with audio and once i refined recording settings this item is damn near perfect for home security. the only niggle i have is lack of detail for recordings further away but comment below states this is standard across CCTV unless you buy higher end/higher price items.
I've recently purchased this and my biggest issue is the battery life. I've got a Ring doorbell (battery) and it lasts for about 4 months on a single charge (even with picking up lots of activity). Whereas this stick up cam that I've installed in my garage (less activity compared to front facing door bell), it just drains within 3-4 DAYS!
I think the quality is good enough but I agree with you. Other brands look better. I still purchased one to compliment the doorbell. And with Rings community online, it’s probably still the best choice. Im sure they will improve the video and quality in future hardware. I’ll just upgrade when that happens.
I have Ring. Have not had any problems. The video quality is great. I would definitely recommend. Audio is not that important. It is the video that nails the intruder, and hopefully they can be found.
I know this is 2 years old from when I'm seeing this, but I found one on sale, they have improved it since and even if the night shots will always be kind of meh, it's good enough to show how my neighbor loves to snoop around my parking lot.
As a ring camera installer this type of camera required a good/excellent wifi connection and also it depend on the area you are going to install thickness of the wall how far it is from your wifi. buffering of sounds happens when down time of internet is there... Im mentioning about internet signals not wifi router signals..
I had bought a twin pack of these and it was easy set up I also have the doorbell as well as two more cameras I have a large home so these cans were just blind spots around outside home and the one camera has trouble staying connecting etc and audio is choppy and that huge bang when you open live view scared u know what out of me each time lol
Love my cameras.. at my business & home. Batteries last FOREVER. Video looks great... plus you can zoom in on live mode by just two finger pinching your screen. Yeah... the audio is not the best unless your their gets right up to the camera microphone Who cares? At least I CAN TALK to the thief (or employee). A+
Any brand of camera that is battery powered sacrifices on image and sound quality. I'm dying to find out what would happen if you reset the camera and during the installation tutorial you set it as wired cam instead of battery.
Have to say I'm really confused by your review. The video samples you show looked pretty decent to me, especially for a £89 camera that doesn't require a hub. You then call it a "premium product", which is not really true given the price point. Its almost as if the conclusion doesn't match the rest of the video? You show the camera setup/samples, and then launch into "I've never had such a horrible experience" without actually detailing any of the issues?!
I am doing an RING RV Security System. I have all outer hatches and the door on contact sensors, I mounted a Smoke/CO Sensor next to the propane alarm, and am looking at these cams for the interior just to set up as a way to capture any thief that may enter despite the alarm going off. On the exterior I want to mount the spotlight version as it has a siren that can be triggered from the app. The system uses very little power, working on hardwiring everything. My only beef is the lack of local video storage. As most of the time I will be using my hotspot, but I think in settings I can dial the system down to use a small amount of data.
It’s 90 quid, the sub is £2.00 a month, frankly I’m amazed it has a mike and speaker at all. It’s fine mate. There again I was born into a generation where you had to peel your own grapes....
Watched this video as I'm considering buying one of Ring's indoor cams. I have several outdoor Ring cams (floodlights, spotlights & doorbell) and every single one of them has issues with latency and sound. The sound is extremely choppy, much worse than what is shown in your video. I have the fastest wifi connection available (gigabit) through Fios and have their router plus 2 extenders to cover the whole house and it's apparently still not enough for these cams to work properly. I think you literally have to put your router right next to the camera to get a decent performance from it. I might consider getting a couple of Ring chime pros to help with the wifi signal.
Your best bet is to get mesh router system. Eero is friendly with ring and you can get them for not too much and if you place one close to your cameras it normally solves any issues. Would make a lot more sense to just have a better built in antenna. Don’t know why ring refuses to do this.
I just bought 3 of these cameras and they all work great. The audio on all of my units is fine, nothing like the audio in this review. So if there was a product defect then it’s either been fixed, or was a one-off issue that affected the reviewed device.
Amazon Prime day(s) I’m all over this and the door bell. Thanks for showing the footage looked good enough to me for a security system and the price is unbeatable for a wireless system. I don’t work for Ring and am a bit of a Nest fanboy but can justify the crazy prices.
Steve, in your opinion, what is the best outdoor security camera for the money?? I need to buy one to keep an eye on my garage and want to hear the expert opinion
I have 2 ring doorbell cams and 2 stick up battery cams and they all work great. Video and Sound are great. Just work with various settings till you find what's best for you. You may have to compromise a little on some settings but for the price it's well worth it. Best system for the overall price.
Disagree. Pretty fair assessment. I’m getting that same scratchiness in the communication. My doorbell (pro) same thing. However, the other cameras I have are great.
@@SuperJESSE327 Disagree. I have had Ring 1 for four years, no issues. Ring 2 for going on three years, again no issue. Maybe you guys shop at the same store? lol
I have this exact camera that you’re reviewing and to be honest the sound quality I get pitcher quality I get is excellent it doesn’t cut out it doesn’t stutter it’s got excellent picture Apple allows me to zoom in and zoom out I love it
Just FYI people if your Internet goes down or you have to reboot your router for any reason I have just been advised by Ring customer support that you have to go and press the little orange button on all of my 10 cameras scattered around the house and screwed to the roof in order to get them back online again with the billion dollar company that they are there should be some sort of failsafe auto reconnect because this is a waste of time Great video by the way I do like the ring ecosystem Plus I’m running Wi-Fi six mesh system
Still getting started with mine, model 5UM7E5, but what has me perturbed off the bat is that I fully charged the battery yesterday. I plugged it in and set it up in my app which already had my doorbell connected and has for some time. As soon as I wanted to view the stickup battery cam, it said it needed to update. Ok, I placed it on a window sill facing outside and let it do it’s thing. This morning, maybe 16 hours later, when I went into the app to view the camera, it couldn’t show me the feed and said it was already down to 12% battery. I’m recharging it now, but so far this isn’t giving me any hope that this $100 camera is going to be useful AT ALL if the battery dies within one day’s time. Something can’t be right here
Reviews I've read lately is that Arlo is slipping in quality. There are also a few Chinese cams with compromised security if you like hackers. I trust Ring a lot more than other brands.
I have two cameras and they work well. I set the power settings to maximum and am okay with using a spare battery every 2 months. I think the power settings are what did it for me.
I have this camera and the 2nd gen version plug in and it’s not as bad as yours but the 2nd gen is much better (maybe because is plug in version) but I found that with Ring devices, the electrical versions are always great all around but the battery versions are average to below average. Luckily I don’t need battery cameras but ended up with this due to a huge discount at a local Best Buy otherwise I would not have bought it. I have a few neighbours that also love ring plug in devices but don’t like battery due to video/sound quality issues.
Great Review! Ring needs to seriously take a step back, cut back on their massive marketing budget, and instead focus on making a quality product that's actually worth any hype. I have 4 of their cameras (2 indoor & 2 outdoor), and the audio is pathetic. The video could definitely be improved a lot as well. Until they do, they'll continue to get beat by every other brand out there, and their reputation will continue to decline.
@@cartergve Unfortunately, now I have 6. I’m still not happy with them, and feel like they could do a lot better. I just don’t know of a better overall option yet, and I also believe that’s why Ring doesn’t care much about improvement.
I have a ring doorbell, four stick up cams, four floodlight Cams and two spotlight cams. I agree the stick up cam has the worst audio and the video quality isn’t as good as a floodlight cam or spotlight cam. I think they must be using a smaller chip sensor. They do what I need for them to do at this price point. I have two stick up cams is in my shop and one stick up cam on a pan tilt in my garage the last stick up cam I put out if I leave the house. If someone breaks in it’s just their to continue recording what they’re doing. My entire house and half acre are covered are covered by ring.
my indoor cam is. alittle less than 2 years - and it has stopped working. no blue light flashing, no light from any outlet. Any advice if its repairable myself?
I just ordered four of these cameras for outside. I think your comment at the end of your video was not helpful at all... it felt like you had some problems or vendetta for Ring products! What kind of review was that ?
I have 3 of these cameras and agree that the image quality is disappointingly poor. The reason, IMO, is that there is too much data compression on the image (MPEG). It blurs out details that the camera itself is likely capturing. I had someone on my front porch the other day - 3 feet from the camera - and their face was completely blurred due to their motion and the high amount of MPEG compression being used. Frame-to-frame was completely smeared - couldn't identify their face. Nearly worthless for security. That high amount of data compression was likely chosen to minimize bandwidth to the Wifi router but is something that SHOULD be a user-adjustable choice in Device Settings. #2 - the time delay in connecting to Wifi when motion is detected typically misses the event that triggered the camera. I often see events in the viewer that don't show what happened only the aftermath (for example the back of the UPS deliver man as he's walking AWAY from the porch). We have a VERY fast Wifi system (450Mbps) - it is NOT the problem! #3 - the device stops recording after selected number of seconds OR (in "Advanced mode") when motion stops. The problem is that there is a significant lag time when motion resumes before it starts recording again (likely related to #2 above) - so events in between are completely missed. Recording should immediately re-trigger when motion resumes - but it does not. (I have "Motion Frequency" set to "Frequently - Motion detection always stays active" but it still doesn't. And I don't know why you would ever WANT the motion detector to "take a break" if something is going on!) The "video doorbell" was a great invention. Kudos for that. But expanding that with other Ring cameras does NOT create a serious security system, IMO. More of an expensive "toy". Buy some 4k cameras and a DVR if you want a real security system. The price is about the same.
@@chellybabyme - I switched to Reolink cameras. For the same $$$ I purchased a much higher quality (4K) camera that has on-board recording to micro SD card. Their customer service has also been excellent. Regardless of brand, I would not recommend using "battery powered" cameras (even with solar panel) unless it's the only choice for a remote location. These cameras are typically off - to conserve battery power - and only turn on when triggered by their "PIR" (passive infrared) motion sensors. This type of motion sensor picks up ANYTHING that moves ANYWHERE in front of the camera. If you use the camera out doors and have any trees or bushes in the area the camera will trigger constantly on a windy day which will needlessly drain the battery and fill up the memory. Worst still, because the cameras are off most of the time there is a time lag for them to start up once motion has been detected - sometimes missing whatever it was that triggered it. The next best is a powered WiFi camera. You need to run a small power wire to the camera but the control and picture transmission is via WiFi connection. This camera is basically on all the time but only records/transmits when triggered by something moving in its field of view. You can adjust the sensor's field of view to only "watch" areas you want while keeping trees, bushes, cars and other such things out of the detection zone. The 410W is an excellent choice and only costs about $70. The very BEST cameras are the "POE" (Power Over Ethernet) cameras which have to be hard-wired to a main recording box via ethernet cable. These cameras are very high image quality with the most flexible features and can record 24/7/365 - but require that main "hub" hardware and cable routing - and are the most expensive. I have my powered cameras connected to a UPS battery backup so I still have security monitoring when the power goes out (sometimes when it's needed the most).
I’ve had extremely good luck with the ring stick up cameras with Solar. I have 12 cameras six at each property. They do need good Wi-Fi signals or you will get some poor resolution otherwise they’ve been going strong for years now. One of the best investments I’ve ever made.
I bought this camera a year ago, I got the “ corded “ version . I’ll be the first to say this, I LOVE it. I watched so many videos on whether I should buy it or not and I bought it , I don’t regret it . If anyone wants to buy this definitely get the corded version, the camera quality and sound quality is really really good and I get alerts instantly no lagging or late notifications 10/10 oh yeah and the night vision is also really clear. Also I want to add if anybody is talking about the “ quality “ of the “ corded “ Version then I’m assuming they have bad wifi speeds , because honestly the camera is that good especially for the price . It was better than i expected , if I could upload a video or picture from my ring to this comment To prove it I would lol
@@daviddave8266 I’m not sure if you would be able to close the window based on the thickness of the cord . I put mine in front of my garage at the top of it . But from my experience the cord is pretty durable , I mean you could try to set it up and if it doesn’t workout just return it
I think you're being too hard on it. If you search YT you can find someone comparing the wired vs wireless stick-up cameras and the wireless video is worse due to the compression to save battery life. So PLUG IT IN! I like that the battery-powered one has the option of being wired or not, the wired version doesn't have a removable battery. Also, expecting it to pick up your voice outside from that distance is not a deal-breaker. It's meant to talk to someone at your door when they are standing right next to the camera. For most people though, they don't care about audio, they just want to get video of a thief. I put mine next to my back door wired. The video is clear. The software is great and very customizable, which is good because my cats set off my motion detect constantly, I like that you can turn off alerts during certain hours. Integration with Alexa was flawless. I can say "Alexa show me the backyard" on my Echo Cube and the feed comes up on my TV. Don't be like me and buy the black version then change your mind and put it on a white porch. I like that it comes in black or white (unit and cable).
Is this the same Ring Stick Up Cam that you compared to the Nest Cam Battery on the Steve DOES channel on October 23, 2021? If so, you did not think it was horrible in that comparison and preferred it over the Nest one. I am wondering about this because I am thinking of getting the wired version of this Ring camera.
Dude , I see another review Where you say it’s great? Wtf I guess they are fading you somehow. Will never watch another review by you You’re the worst dude
I didnt see a base station of any kind. Is there one? Also, is there a way to save videos taken? I want an indoor system for when I am away from the house so must my phone be able to get to my wifi system? thanks
I bought three and they work good as long as the battery is charged but the battery drains way too fast, I have the solar panels and it’s like I don’t have any at all. I have to recharge or replace the battery every 3 days or so.
I get what you mean, but I feel audio streaming is super hard, together with it being indoor/outdoor. A camera lens works just about the same when in a water seal. But a mic just never will.
I get 3 weeks or more with average levels of activity. The app sends an alert when the level reaches 30%. I bought a spare battery and charging dock on Amazon and just swap out the low battery since they can take several hours to recharge.
We purchased it for the garden and currently its facing the garden from inside double glazed window. It randomly records so we are thinking of installing it outside and my question is you did not show how you mounted this and how would you protect it from rain, snow etc ie in the winter?
What would you then recommend? I like the fact that its batterypowered, which is what dragged me in the direction of the ring. One thing I miss in the Ring is to be able to do local storage, so I don't have to pay a monthly subscription. That is a deal braker for me. Currently, I have the NetAtmo welcome. Its ok, but the video quality sucks and there isn't two way audio,
Will it record footage just when theres motion detected and then can i can go back and look at it anytime almost like its been put on an sd card? I dont need to see it live. More importantly i need it saved. Thanks

We have five of these and they have been great.

That camera is good enough for me, I don’t want to talk to the people in the yard, I want to see which way the Rottweiler is chasing them.
It doesn’t look bad at all what do you mean. The audio is decent could be better. But for $99 it great
They are on sale right now. Plus they have another 20% off for Veterans. $68 for this camera is a steal.
i've had zero problems with audio and once i refined recording settings this item is damn near perfect for home security. the only niggle i have is lack of detail for recordings further away but comment below states this is standard across CCTV unless you buy higher end/higher price items.

a trivial criticism, discomfort, or annoyance:
I've recently purchased this and my biggest issue is the battery life. I've got a Ring doorbell (battery) and it lasts for about 4 months on a single charge (even with picking up lots of activity). Whereas this stick up cam that I've installed in my garage (less activity compared to front facing door bell), it just drains within 3-4 DAYS!
What is the best to get. I need to find one that lasts . Trying to find out who is messing with my ride!!
Try getting the solar panel $49.00 and add it to it and you won't have to change your battery.
I had bought a twin pack of these and it was easy set up
I also have the doorbell as well as two more cameras I have a large home so these cans were just blind spots around outside home and the one camera has trouble staying connecting etc and audio is choppy and that huge bang when you open live view scared u know what out of me each time lol
I think you're being overly harsh, they are pretty good.
ya no kidding ....
exactly. works grt
I love mine. Caught a tweaker trying to get into my truck last night!!
Yeah there’s been a sketchy guy walking around my neighborhood. Going to pick one up this weekend.
It’s 90 quid, the sub is £2.00 a month, frankly I’m amazed it has a mike and speaker at all. It’s fine mate. There again I was born into a generation where you had to peel your own grapes....
It's less than $100... IMO it's pretty good looking video for
Watched this video as I'm considering buying one of Ring's indoor cams.
So if there was a product defect then it’s either been fixed, or was a one-off issue that affected the reviewed device.
how far is the motion detection on the one you have? Can it see well in the dark or does there need to be a bit of light? Thanks
You get that costco 3 pack?
Amazon Prime day(s) I’m all over this and the door bell. Thanks for showing the footage looked good enough to me for a security system and the price is unbeatable for a wireless system. I don’t work for Ring and am a bit of a Nest fanboy but can justify the crazy prices.
are you looking for freebies or what? that video is great! who cares about the quality of sound?
@@justmefrompa4252 Haha No. I bought a Ring doorbell and Stick up CAM seems perfect to me after 1 year of use.
Nice reminder, Prime Day 2022 is coming up in a couple weeks!
Please can you explain why you think the video quality was trash? The video quality looks really good to me!
Hi, what would you recommend for outdoor cam instead of ring, appreciate your time and thanks for the video.
Best
Thanks for such a thorough review. Do you need the camera to connect to wifi or can you connect via cell service?
I have mine connected to wifi I think without Wi-Fi don’t work
Steve, in your opinion, what is the best outdoor security camera for the money?? I need to buy one to keep an eye on my garage and want to hear the expert opinion
So which security camera system do u recommend? 🙏🏼
I think that video was perfect, what videos were you watching? The audio sucks for sure, but the video was excellent.
I totally agree with you.
I have 2 ring doorbell cams and 2 stick up battery cams and they all work great. Video and Sound are great. Just work with various settings till you find what's best for you. You may have to compromise a little on some settings but for the price it's well worth it. Best system for the overall price.
Sounds like SOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEBODY just hating on RING to me. Mine has been great!
Disagree. Pretty fair assessment. I’m getting that same scratchiness in the communication. My doorbell (pro) same thing. However, the other cameras I have are great.

Although you suggested it, Nest does not offer a wireless outdoor camera.
Audio was pretty bad
Something can’t be right here
Just purchased this and can’t seem to get it to connect with my home hit on my iPhone any ideas? Thanks
I just got a Ring stick up cam on Amazon Prime days for ... $54.00. I am not expecting TV broadcast quality. It works great!
Best all-around wireless cam I found was the Arlo cam 3
Reviews I've read lately is that Arlo is slipping in quality. There are also a few Chinese cams with compromised security if you like hackers. I trust Ring a lot more than other brands.
how easy are they to pull off the wall if all you have to do is twist it kind of a huge flaw
I have two cameras and they work well. I set the power settings to maximum and am okay with using a spare battery every 2 months. I think the power settings are what did it for me.
how far is the motion detection on the one you have? Can it see well in the dark or does there need to be a bit of light? Thanks
excellent, does it run on 5G wifi or 2.4g? How long does the battery last on a charge? can you watch it on phone from miles away? thank you.
2.4ghz
Bro that looked perfectly fine was he expecting a movie quality camera?
The audio is horrible.
I have a few neighbours that also love ring plug in devices but don’t like battery due to video/sound quality issues.
how far is the motion detection on the one you have? Can it see well in the dark or does there need to be a bit of light? Thanks
Have three of these cameras - not had any problems - have doorbell and spotlight cams too - Excellent products
how long does the battery last ?
Wow but harsh on the review - I thought it was great I have two and works beautifully for me
does the stick up cam and ring doorbell 2nd gen run on the same app?
Great Review! Ring needs to seriously take a step back, cut back on their massive marketing budget, and instead focus on making a quality product that's actually worth any hype. I have 4 of their cameras (2 indoor & 2 outdoor), and the audio is pathetic. The video could definitely be improved a lot as well. Until they do, they'll continue to get beat by every other brand out there, and their reputation will continue to decline.
Their marketing seems to be working as planned. You have 4 of their cameras , sooooo?
What did you think after ordering yours?
you didnt mention that the battery in the stick up camera takes about 8 hours to charge up
Mine works just fine - it's much better than other WiFi cams I have used.
how long does the battery last?
What camera has the longest battery time for wireless?? Ring or any other brand
Any help would be appreciated
I heard Amazon ring
I’m in Australia and in the process of looking for a security camera and instantly thought of ring. If Ring isn’t the best, what would you suggest.
He is definitely trippin. Great video quality with light or night vision. Sound quality is good but not excellent. Overall, can't beat it for $100.
And I don't know why you would ever WANT the motion detector to "take a break" if something is going on!)
The "video doorbell" was a great invention. Kudos for that. But expanding that with other Ring cameras does NOT create a serious security system, IMO. More of an expensive "toy". Buy some 4k cameras and a DVR if you want a real security system. The price is about the same.
You really broke down everything I wanted to know. What cameras can you recommend?
It was better than i expected , if I could upload a video or picture from my ring to this comment To prove it I would lol
can i shut the window without damage to the cord ?
@@daviddave8266 I’m not sure if you would be able to close the window based on the thickness of the cord . I put mine in front of my garage at the top of it . But from my experience the cord is pretty durable , I mean you could try to set it up and if it doesn’t workout just return it
I wonder if i get the battery version using an ad adapter if the quality would be the same as the wired version
If you think it may have been a defect in that particular camera, you should have gotten another to compare it with for a more thorough review.
That was a clear pic and smooth video , I really can't believe u think it's horrible !
There is anyway that I can raise the volume on the ring stick up cámara?
Wish they made it a little bit bigger to add two batteries similar to the ring Spotlight.
Dude , I see another review
Where you say it’s great? Wtf I guess they are fading you somehow. Will never watch another review by you
You’re the worst dude
I didnt see a base station of any kind. Is there one? Also, is there a way to save videos taken? I want an indoor system for when I am away from the house so must my phone be able to get to my wifi system? thanks
I bought three and they work good as long as the battery is charged but the battery drains way too fast, I have the solar panels and it’s like I don’t have any at all. I have to recharge or replace the battery every 3 days or so.
I have 2 sticky cam Gen 3 , both are plug-in but why one of them say battery low is not battery is wired
I get what you mean, but I feel audio streaming is super hard, together with it being indoor/outdoor. A camera lens works just about the same when in a water seal. But a mic just never will.
I have 2 and they work fine
how far is the motion detection on the one you have? Can it see well in the dark or does there need to be a bit of light? Thanks
Have you heard of the stick up camera showing live view when connected to home internet, but nothing when not connected to home internet?
I thought it was bad until I got the chime pro and it extended the Wi-Fi and now it’s perfect
How is the average battery life on these (w/o solar)? how often to recharge or swap-out with a charged battery? Thanks
Its ok, but the video quality sucks and there isn't two way audio,
I think thats how ring makes their real money not by cams but by subcriptions.. take away what used to come with it and now you have to pay for it.
I'm charging battery 🔋 when will it be fully charged ? It's been on charger for over 30 minutes.
I have 2 and they work great
How long does the batter last?
Will it record footage just when theres motion detected and then can i can go back and look at it anytime almost like its been put on an sd card? I dont need to see it live. More importantly i need it saved. Thanks
