    My tip, if you study you will think the test was easy. If you don't study, you'll think it was very hard! Be prepared. I used MotorAge Study guides and ASETestPrep app. Went from 0 to Auto Master Tech in 4 months. Also certified in T-3 & T-4. Haven't failed any tests yet. I will get Master Heavy Med Truck no doubt, because I want it and I'm willing to put in the time it takes. I am 53 yrs old & got my first Certification June 2018. Nice video, congratulations on your Master Tech. Good luck and God Bless you 🙏

      how did you get 2 years experience? seems completly insane that you need 2 years prior experience in a shop to take these tests. myself i been building engines since 1970s on mopar (challenger) worked on direct fuel injection, carbs, built engines from the block up, you name it, but ASE wont let me test. they say that since i didnt work in a shop for 2 years I know nothing. which is total bullshit lets be honest. I also been workin in IT for the past 20 years not doing auto work as a profession

    I worked in a shop for two years, then worked as a parts sales manager for two years. Then I got a bachelor's degree for teaching ELA, then a master's for teaching special ed and have been teaching for a few years. Just found out that if I pass A1-A8, I can get certified to teach vehicle mechanical repair. Very excited to get started on this next journey of passing these tests.

    Thank you! Thank you! I've always said that just because you have all of your ASE's does not make you a Master Tech. All it means is you have read the material and passed all of the tests. If I were a shop owner I would much rather have a tech with many years of experience and NO ASE's than a young tech who has all of their ASE's and no experience.

  • @short8782

    My instructor had study guides for the ASE tests. They were just majority of the questions on the test and the answer. He taught us a lot of techniques and what actually works. He is very well aware that ASE is kinda shitty. But hell the certifications allow you to be more qualified for the jobs and you make more than someone without them.

    I have 50 years as a Master Mechanic, have been ASE certified since 1980, I have Master Auto, Master Diesel Truck, Master Automotive Machinist, Master Body, L1 and L2. My only current ones are Master Auto required for work. The tests are guess tests, anyone half way familiar with cars can pass them. The tests used to be harder but not enough people passed them so ASE made them easier.
    Save you money and time, ASE tests are useless. In fact the most of the automotive repair trade sucks, just about every mechanic at dealerships are ready to get out of the poor paying trade.
    If you can get into a union dealership you are better off, the unions have a education program for their apprenticeship programs. Then you can go into factory training, now not all factory training is the same, the GM program currently sucks, but at one time was one of the best.

    Rn I have A4 steering and suspension, A5 brakes, A6 electrical, A7 HVAC, and A8 engine performance. My advice would be don’t be cocky on what you know and study also be prepared for test test questions meaning the questions they put in there that don’t have a right answer eat be hydrated and be well rested and do some last minute studying.
    Update: I now have A1, A2, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, G1, and P2 and just got a job at Mercedes with no Mercedes experience or dealership experience thanks to ASE’s

  • @motorpsykler
    @motorpsykler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've recertified 4 times Master, 3 times L1 and I'm about to recertify Hybrid, yeah I'm old. A1-A8 ASE's just evaluate a technicians understanding of basic fundamentals. The L1 evaluates a technicians ability to apply those fundamentals in real world diagnosis and I think the L1 does a good job of it. You're not going to fake your way through the L1. Of course ASE's don't evaluate a techs work ethic or ability to turn wrenches. But when you're young, ASE's help show that you are serious career technician. When you get old, current ASE certification can help show technology hasn't passed you by. I've worked for the same dealer for 28 years, of course book hours are still the primary metric in which we're judged, but I still think ASE's are important and give you an edge over non-certified techs.

    My brother, we adopted each other on our own recognizance, came to the US illegally from Mexico, he didn't even speak English. He was able to get in on the Reagan era amnesty, he started sweeping at a shop and grabbing tools and parts for mechanics as well as paying attention to what the mechanics were doing. When he had a little extra money he bought tools and would go down to junkyards and teach himself about working on cars. The owner of the local pick a part actually hired him to take off the starter and alternator when the cars were first put down, he got fried because he was too slow compared to another guy, but my brother was taking it off like he was going to put it back on. Eventually he got a job at a Pep Boys and bribed his boss with breakfast everyday so he would show him how to use all the equipment in the shop, not to long after that he won a contest that all the Pep Boys in the country have that gives the mechanic with the most billable hours an all expense paid week at Disney World for him and his family. He worked a few other places and eventually had his own shop. He pretty much just does side work now, but he is the fasted wrench around. He didn't graduate high school here or in Mexico, he never went to any automotive school and never had on ASE certification.

    Any tech that doesn’t have any should get them ASAP, it opens so many doors and Job security is a plus, once I became ASE master along with Toyota MDT, the jump in pay raise was like 7-15$ more...so yes it worth getting them. It's much easier now than ever to get a job working on diesel trucks, fleet or equipment. So many places are having trouble finding techs. I started out 14 years ago making 50k a year just getting into it. Easily a 6 figure job with some experience. Now especially is the time to get into it if that's what you want to do. You'll never not have a job. Go to a company that has a truck fleet, tell them you will change lights and tires and you have no experience. I'm in the north east and we just hired a 20 yr old kid for $28/hr who has never picked up a wrench and is learning. It's hard to find help right now as opposed to 10 years ago. Good luck.

      Honestly I don’t think ase is worth it my neighbor hired supposedly an ase certified mechanic all he had to do was replace a thermostat in a car he was working on that for almost week only for my neighbor to go under one day to see why was he taking long and next thing you know he broke the transmission he kept tightening the drain plug so the transmission had a nasty leak so my neighbor with no mechanic experience replaced the thermostat in 5 minutes you should of seen how he screamed and fired the ase mechanic

      @@LetsDriftMedia True. I'm reconsidering just going to a cheaper school. I'm not guaranteed to be ASE certified after graduation like UTI or Lincoln Tech advertises but if I can cut tuition in half it seems like a better deal.. or am I missing something? Why are people going to these way more expensive schools if the only difference is they guarantee you an ASE certification. The certification tests are only $40 a piece right?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t need schooling to take ASE, anyone can take the test, you just won’t get your actual certification status until you have 2 years of experience working at an automotive related job.

  • @johnnyromo8929
    @johnnyromo8929 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have all 8 ASE certifications. My instructors from technician schooling told us students we could get $1 raise for each ASE certification. Is that correct? Any information would be appreciated. Also do you get commission for every job you complete? A potential employer offered me 3-5% of every repair I service, I feel that’s a little low. What are other mechanics percentages?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Highly unlikely to get 1$ per ase raise but everywhere is different. And we get paid flatrate
