On the part you mentioned about eliminating the wrong question ase has a right click option that puts a line through the answer so visually you know that question is wrong and won’t go back to it it’s helpful because you won’t second guess yourself if you already marked it wrong 👍

The test doesn't prove you can do the work. It proves you can pass a test. I have most of mine didn't have them for decades in this field and out worked every ase master tech I've met. All of them were book smart but can't apply it.
Ase is an American standard. All of the imports didn't required for years. It's unheard of outside of the US.
I'm not saying this stuff doesn't matter. But I'm saying learn what matters to your employer. If it will make you more money that is the thing to do.

@josephtesta5884 it shows you know in depth Complicated auto repair theory. If you can pass the engine performance it means you know the in depth theory. If someone can learn everything and remember it all then applying it would be a piece of cake. People who can't afford to buy the prep, tests and time to study are usually salty and jealous. You probably wouldn't pass with you narrow mind

My first time taking the tests, I took all 8. Cold turkey, no studying. I wanted to know if I knew it or not. Passed all 8. Ever since, I always did it the same way. Did the same with MH truck and L1. Only test that I didn’t pass was truck brakes. Studied and passed it the next time. Nice to see your certs all having the same expiration date.

Just wanted to drop a quick comment on the face plug question for anyone that is curious. You were 100% correct. Face plugging is the result of a diesel engine idling for hours over the course of multiple weeks. The slow flow of exhaust gases/ zero pressure of the exhaust gases allow the soot particulates to get caught on the face of the dpf’s. As the soot builds, the dpf’s get packed with soot causing a multitude of problems. The best fix is to blow out the doc and replace the dpf’s.

22 years with GM. The ASE master is required for World Class. Dealers vary with the procedure and pay of actually taking them. Ultimately it's a resume for me. The questions are important as there are times you repair a vehicle someone else was working on and knowing what they were doing helps to know if you continue his path or restart completely. The tests are really for common knowledge in the category.

I work for city fleet, my shift handles trash trucks. As a Tech II, I’m required to have 4 ASEs. I don’t have them now, none of my crew does, but we have a year to get them. In our case, it doesn’t even matter what ones. I’m planning on going for G1 to hopefully a a relatively easy win and am studying T4 (truck brakes) right now. My tip I would add is find out which are considered the easiest (usually brakes and A/C) and get those first. I feel like getting that W right off the bat will help boost confidence and help with the next tests.
I can’t agree with you enough to read the questions CAREFULLY. I’ll give an example of a one I missed on a practice test: During a break inspection, it’s discovered that the brake linings are soaked in oil. What is the proper repair?
    A) Clean the linings with soap and water
    B) Replace the brakes
    C) Clean the lining with alcohol
    D) Repair the oil leak, then replace the brakes
As soon as I read B, I chose it because it was “so obviously” the answer. If I read the next two, I would have seen D and got it right.
As far as if ASEs being important, I consider them the college degrees of the mechanics world. You don’t need them to be a good mechanic, but you need them to move up (as you said repeatedly). Also, just as with any certification, they just look good on a resume. It’s even to a point where some places require them.

Written multiple choice test taking is difficult because it requires more than just being knowledgeable in the subject you are being tested on. First you have to be able to read, but more importantly, you need reading comprehension. Second you have to know the most effective way in which you learn and retain information. Third you have to understand the test format and the best test taking strategies to pass the test given the number of question and the time allowed.
Many people have problems with written tests because they have reading and learning disabilities. But, let me be clear, virtually everybody has their own reading and learning disabilities, and unless you have specialized help, which is very costly, it will take a lot of effort and time to understand and address your own learning roadblocks.
As it turns out everybody learns differently.
Unfortunately, the public education system in the US is not set up to provide the personalized teaching needed to address individual needs, or even trying to understand learning roadblocks.
The ASE most popular question formats are as follows: Direct or Completion, Most Likely, Tech A and Tech B, Except and Least Likely.
    Test taking tips:
View the test as a block of questions with no relation to how they are ordered or relate to what you know on the subject. Meaning, always answer the easiest question first. In many tests you could go through several question at the start before you know the proper exact correct answer to a question. There is no relation to what you know and how the questions are organized. Keep going through the test until you find the next easiest question to answer.
Any question that is not answered will be marked as wrong. Which usually means you will need to make guesses in order to pass the test, usually between two very close answers. Because of this when you work on a question and can eliminate two out of the four answers, mark this and move on. Always wait to the end of the testing time to make you best guesses. Keep going through the test and answering the next easiest question to answer.
Multiple choice tests are built upon knowledge specifics, or facts, pertaining to the subject matter. This is why it is called a test. Knowledge facts can be key words or key numbers (constants) that the test designers feel is important to understand the nature of the work. For ASE the questions are written by a panel of technical experts from vehicle, parts and equipment manufacturers, as well as working technicians and technical educational instructors. If you understand who these people are you will understand how they design questions. Which means, the base meaning on the words they use (jargon) will many times show a pattern throughout the test. In other words, the test in its entirety represents how words are used in a specific context important to the people writing the test. By going through the test you will see patterns and how words are used in a specific context.

My community college (SLCC in UT) really push getting your ASEs saying it really helps in whatever auto field you're going into such as independent or dealership. I started working at Ford/Lincoln in Draper as just a quick-lane lube tech and I've been told by my flat-rate co-worker who apprenticed under someone in mainshop and he says they don't care one bit if you have ASEs or not. They care whether or not you are Ford certified! I don't plan on staying at a dealership (your channel is one of the reasons) so I will continue to get my ASEs.

All employer training is ASE approved, as long as you have gone to the training classes they consider you to be qualified to perform those repairs. There isn’t much incentive to get your certs, they give you a 1 time $100 bonus for each test you pass, no hourly raises. Yea I feel you. That’s why I left the dealer at my age since I knew it was like starting all over I’d rather do it while I’m young. Luckily the spot I got into pays pretty good hourly rate. But if you have a good flat rate pay and make a ton of hours it’s definitely a pay cut in the beginning.
