  • VINTAGE RESALE SHOPPING! | SPARKS ANTIQUE SHOW & FLEA MARKET
When you’re selling at a big show, you have to take time to make money by shopping! Sparks, Kansas Antique & Collectible Show offers four days of shopping fun, and by opening late and closing early, I can squeak in a few hours of vintage reseller shopping each day.
I’ve never been to Sparks before this, so I start with an orientation to this now near ghost town of 9 souls that burgeons into the antique destination for Kansas City and surrounding states twice a year.
It’s fun being the new guy shopping in the wild…I’m ferreting out the bargains as I go! The hunt scores jadeite plates, Edward the Abdicator beakers and a handsome antique pyrography grape stand that I flip the next day in my sales booth here (yes, at the same show!).
So many more fun things to ogle, even if we can’t take them away…
an amazingly artistic deer head, iron farm wheels on the cheap and a stylish pickled bamboo shelf all threaten my pocketbook very little…but space is at a premium because I brought a van full to sell.
The collector in me is moved by easily folded Rock Island Railroad towels, reminiscent of my namesake grandfather. Razors are still practical cutlery forms, and antique and vintage varieties make fun out of man’s daily drudgery of shaving.
We show and tell about things that appear at this market (Hollywood Regency to Armour Bronze) where antiques and vintage meet farm junk and used goods. From doll furniture to real furniture, Manhattan to martinis, we roam through a cool world of old-school values…some of which let us resellers make money while having a blast!
Here’s some more of what we see in this video:
Farm primitive and old paint furniture, coffee grinder, picnic baskets, Enco enameled sign, records, Conestoga wagon lamp, spice box, salt box, copper picture, 1930s stoneware mixing bowls, forest service STOP sign, barberania, lightning rod, kitchen stools, torquay hair receiver, Kellogg phone, parlor chair, Knowles Yorktown, marble table, galvanized pitchers, wall pockets, Mr. Peanut bank, Westmoreland wedding stand, Pyrex lime ware, advertising ephemera, photo paperweights, Franciscan Apple ashtray, pyrography, Siamese figure, etc.

It amazes me how many virtually unpopulated towns there are that hosts these sales and how much vintage treasures are in the middle section of the US! 💖. My favs from this sale was the box of 1950's doll furniture and the vintage felt Santa's that were on the same table, the stack of Jadite salad plates that were an amazing deal. 💖

Lots of interesting items. Loved the 1930’s green magazine rack right at the end. $10? I think I would have taken that home.....even though I don’t need it. 😉 Thank you for your tour. I’m a relatively new subscriber so I’m learning lots. Unfortunately, some of the things that often strike my interest from your videos or others (eg. Crazy Lamp Lady) aren’t as readily available in Australia, or they are astronomically more expensive here because they’re so much more rare. Looks like I’ll just have to shop along vicariously with you, Jeffrey, Jocelyn and Misty instead.

I've always liked those. All the lamps in that shop were fantastic. I was so happy you said to not paint antique/vintage furniture! There has been so much value lost to people doing that😌 Those RR grease rags were really neat, and I imagine a bit difficult to find in good condition. It would be awesome to see that town restored.
