that would be awesome, i have NGPC vol1 for switch and soon will be getting vol2, i love handheld games but can’t afford to collect a bunch of them lmao
The more I see of the Womderswan, the more I like it. Just seems like a real workhorse - nothing too fancy but more than capable. I'd love to go back to JP as I only scratched the surface last time, but even that blew my mind as it was. What an amazing place and would quite happily live there if I could , although I'd be pennyless if I bought everything that I wanted.. 😁
Judgement Silversword is one of those holy grail shmups. It's so incredibly expensive I was shocked to see you pull it up to the camera! Wow! Fortunately it's very affordable on PC and I've been able to play quite a lot of it. It's an incredible game with some very cool ideas. Genuinely one of the best shmups out there despite how condensed it is.
M-KAI also made several other WonderWitch shoot-'em-ups, all all of which are well worth checking out. I don't think any of these were released commercially, but if you (or anybody else) are interested, they are: Project E-Force, Cardinal Sins and Self Produce.
Thanks, great video! I love the Wonderswan. A couple other great options with full English support, for those who like RPG-style games: Wizardry and Golden Axe.
Been really interested in the device for a while. Digital Partner is a game I always thought looked weird enough to fit it perfectly. I feel like Goemon Mystical Ninja games would have felt very at home on it
I bought a complete in box copy of Judgment Silversword about 17 years ago for $80 and still have it, but Dicing Knight Period is my holy grail in gaming. I passed on a copy around that time for $400-500 (can't remember the exact price), but being a college kid, I figured my money was best spent elsewhere at the time. That's debatable.

Man, you are awesome. I just found your content. It's so inclusive. I always wanted wonder swan, now I want it even more.
I hope Judgement Silver Sword goes onto Switch! Yeah, all my Japanese games have the title Rockman instead of Megaman. What a cool concept for Dicing Knight feels like a platform D&D vibe going for it. Too bad Magical Drop is not in color for the Wonder Swan, but you can still find it for other consoles to get the full color games. I owned Klonoa: Door to Phantom Mile on the original PS1 back in 1997. Didn't know they had a new game for Klonoa on the Wonder Swan! Thanks as always for the Retro Break!
It's already out digitally - it's a bonus extra to Eschatos (which is essentially a modern remake). Absolutely incredible shmup! I think it has one of the best game soundtracks ever too.
One game I felt that was missing from your list is XI SAI LITTLE, aka devil dice. It’s a fantastic puzzle game on the system and looks visually impressive as well.
I always heard of WonderSwan, but I didn't know Gunpai Yokoi created it. He was such a creative and talented game creator. This seems like a wonderful gaming console with many great games from what I have seen so far. Cool video. ^_^
Judgement Silversword is awesome. Happy to have that on my PS5 (as part of Eschatos) and Steam Deck. I wonder if M-Kai had the source code for JSS lying around on his old computer. I believe the source code was ported over and it was all done using code.
Love this video! It really got me into the Wonderswan and its unique library. As ever, your enthusiasm is infectious. One good game I have that isn't on here is the WS port of Beatmania, which sounds crazy but it works! It's another one that uses the vertical mode well. I suck at it, but love that it even exists and is so playable. Would love to see more Wonderswan content in the future 😊
A couple other great games for non-Japanese speakers are Engacho! and Tane wo Maku Tori. As far as I know neither game is available on any other handheld system. (Engacho! is also on the PS1.)
id seen what the wonderswan looked like but never actually saw what the games looked like wow! ive actually never seen black and white games that looked so beautiful. im dying to get my hands on one now. btw nice tetris skills bro dang
Good little review mate! Just bought three Wonderswans from Japan and am waiting on them to arrive here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Got my subscription bro! Thanks
bro! 😮 Klonoa on WonderSawn actually is the first Klonoa game I finished too! and I hate that no one talks about it when talking about Klonoa games 😢 great video buddy 👍
@@RetroBreak absolutely! We're the true Klonoa fans 😂 I'm joking of course but more people need to play this game but the hardware is not that accessable unfortunately
It's a shame the WonderSwan was never released in the west. I love the concept of being able to play it vertical. The grayscale games look so beautiful. As well as having those awesome Final Fantasy remakes.
I think the one game that really deserved a mention in this video is the remake of Wizardry Scenario 1. It's basically a port of the Famicom version with better graphics that does a really nice job of toning down the early game, making it much more accessible to new players (because let's face it, the early Wizardry games are near impenetrable). In addition to the fan translation patch, there's also a patch that unlocks the WonderGate DLC.
The Virtual Boy was never a good idea, though the real problem is that Nintendo didn't pull the plug on it before it was released. Gunpei Yokoi was a genius, but even geniuses get it wrong occasionally.
Hey I was just wondering if you could recommend some game boy indie titles that are still Available to order. I just got my Analogue Pocket and want some new game carts to play but don’t know where to start.
I'm sad that there's only one flashcart around with limited supplies for the wonderswan and it's not really the same as the ones you can get for other systems where you can load it full of roms, plus it's kind of pricy too :(
Yeah I wish there was a better and more readily available flash cart too, this one was a pain to use having to use USB to flash the different roms each time too..
@@RetroBreak I wonder why they don't stick a microsd slot in it, seems like a no brainer! Love your collection and enthusiasm for this sweet handheld btw :)
your picks are kinda okay, i won't dispute. my only regret is we never got releases from konami for this handheld. for example a contra game that mixes bits of the ps1 entries, a street fighter game with characters from the sf3 series or the EX series, a castlevania game, a star gladiator/plasma sword game, a project justice/rival schools game, a parasite eve game, a bushido blade game, a devil may cry game, an ehrgeiz game, an onimusha game, a soul edge/calibur game, a ridge racer game, a gran turisimo game, a resident evil game, a bouncer game, a crisis beat game, a darius game, a bloody roar game, a dynasty warriors game, a slient hill game, a dino crisis game, an ace combat game, an R-type game, a darkstalkers/vampire saviour/night warriors game, a pro evolution soccer game, a metal gear solid game, a pacman world game and a gradius game. if western launches had happened a tenchu game, a crash bandicoot game, a spyro game, a grand theft auto game, a V rally game, a wipeout game, a syphon filter game, an actua soccer game, a driver game, a twisted metal game, a destruction derby game, a 007 game and a coolboarders game. also some games that were exclusive to the PC-Engine/turbografx 16. okay so the wonderswan might not be able to handle a port of some of these games, but the SwanCrystal might just be able to handle a port of some of the others mentioned here. namco should have collaborated heavily with bandai in terms of software support before absorbing them. if software support had been strong we could have seen more games on the first two wonderswan variants support the wonderswan/ps2 link up thus giving the handheld an edge over the gameboy color and gba. i'll give you a clue on what games the swan should have had. they came out on the game boy advance and the DS.
I wish a WonderSwan collection for Switch would be released in English.
That would be awesome! SNK did some for the Neo Geo Pocket, now it’s Bandai’s turn!
@@RetroBreak Yeah, I had Neo Geo Pocket in mind when posting this!

Some really excellent games there, quite a few I was unaware of.

Fantastic video, just so well edited and formatted. Thank you for sharing, the ports in particular are quite interesting

Truly amazing video and such a underrated console. It's a shame the games were never released across the sea.
Great Wonder-ful video!
2 more good games for Wonderswan: Puzzle Bobble and Crazy Climber

Some great picks amongst this lot and a great showcase for the system. It certainly had some cracking games amongst its library.

Yokoi was treated badly by Yamauchi. He never intended the Virtual Boy to be what it eventually came out as. And his sad death...
The Virtual Boy was never a good idea, though the real problem is that Nintendo didn't pull the plug on it before it was released. Gunpei Yokoi was a genius, but even geniuses get it wrong occasionally.
Pretty cool and never expected, that there are Games without Language Barrier😃
Tetris for the Wonderswan is one of the top versions of Tetris EVER
Thanks very much for this and I agree Tetris is excellent on the Wonderswan Color
Wow, the last 2 games absolutely rock!
Great video!
thanks for the recommendation, bit rough for the japanese only game to play,it helps me out

There actually 1 other horizontal shmup. The battleship Yamamoto game has an arcade mode which is a horizontal shmup
Thanks for this 😊
Excellent video.
What's the flashcart/multi-cart that you're using?
wonderswan has many popular anime library game, but the language barrier
Miyoo mini plus thanks for allowing me the abolity to play wonderswan games
Really like this video and the background music too. What song is it?
Just some random coffee shop music I found! It gives a nice relaxing vibe I think :)
Makaimura was an original game and not a port, i own it CIB....btw cool video...keep up
I had a Crystal and sold it to a buddy, kinda wish i kept it now
why you don't include Rockman and Forte challenger from the future (1999)
How do you play with a patch on the wonderswan using the cartridge?
I still have a CiB version of JaJa Maru for sale 👀
