  • Are you ready to upgrade your data analysis skills with easy Excel visuals? Today, we’re going to show you how to craft frequency polygon charts, a key tool for anyone looking to present data in a more digestible format. These charts are perfect for comparing distributions and identifying central tendencies and variations in data.
What is a frequency polygon? In essence it's very similar to a histogram. Both are trying to help you understand the shape of the distribution of values. The difference is that in a histogram, the horizontal axis is categorized by the bin or buckets that the count of the values reside in. In a frequency polygon, the horizontal categorization is based on the mid-point of the buckets. An advantage of a frequency polygon is that you can compare multiple sets of data; since it's a line chart it's easier to visually see the difference. With a histogram, if you were to plot multiple series of data in the same area, it would just overlay each other and be hard to read.
This tutorial is designed for learners at all levels, so whether you're new to Excel or looking to add another tool to your data visualization toolkit, you're in the right place. By the end of this video, you'll be able to create detailed and dynamic frequency polygon charts that can highlight trends and patterns in any dataset.

I dont know if I am the only one having trouble finding the edit button on Mac. I have been making charts all day thanks to my STATS teacher and this video was the most helpful, but I can't find the edit button on Mac to change the X-Axis.

@@DougHExcel Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to plug into the horizontal axis the midpoints of my data table. I've tried both in Excel 2007 and in the current version, following the steps in this and other videos... but Excel always keeps the default 1,2,3,4,5,6... (and I did 'select the data" in the midpoints column that I created). Thank you. -J
