100% correct that those connections come loose, i do however suggest you lay the track on a hard flat surface which will push the rail into the cavity while you role over the retaining clip
In addition.... to all viewers....When assembling tracks they should always be assembled on a flat plane and the connection must feel very firm as the opposite male pins feed into the
receptacle, dismantling is to be done as carefully as possible doing your level best to not over bend the tracks it WILL LOOSEN the contacts if you bend it
Thank you for posting the vid, i am sure many people have watched it and applied your advice

I saw where a guy soaked his track in vinegar/water mix....to improve connectivity.
    I wonder about this.

Thanks for your comment Brad. It is a similar idea - using a mild acid (vinegar) to dissolve the surface impurities. However, I had to rub the track quite hard using a metal polish. So a mild acid just wouldn't cut through it and a stronger one would also damage the paint and finish on the plastic. Using vinegar and water on a lightly corroded track may work, but I suspect this would be needed before any discolouration was seen on the track.
Anyone else have experience of using this technique? Comment below.

True Ross, but I don't have any other Scalextric cars to use! Which cheap ones do you recommend?
