As a brand new knitting at the young age of 67 I find you two a joy and a breath of needed fresh air. I have caught up on all past episodes so I am ready to to enjoy all the lovely eye candy. I don’t think my skills are at the sweater stage but I am pushing myself to learn something new each week.

we brought home a woolly bear catepillar from Downieville, CA to my nephew in San Franciso. He took care of it to the point it turned into a moth. He was so proud of him. He named him Harry. 😊 The moth stayed for a long time and then flew away.

Hello friends! Here in Southern Indiana, we collect fallen persimmons to use in fall baking and we always check the inside of the persimmon seed for our winter forecast. If you slice open the seed of a persimmon, you will find a spoon, fork, or knife. A spoon means that we will be digging out of lots of snow, a knife means that the cold wind will be especially cutting, and a fork means that the winter will be mild. So far this year, it has been reported that the persimmon seeds are yielding spoons!!! That seems to reinforce your wooly worm forecast! I really enjoy your podcast and know your area very well…my kids went to Asbury College in Wilmore! Happy knitting!

I also love knitting for its portability. I didn’t start knitting until I was 57, but I spent my life crafting; starting with childhood crafts and moving on to embroidery, counted cross-stitch, quilting (including teaching quilting classes), sewing doll clothes and crafty items, scrapbooking and digital scrapbooking. I also tried the trendy crafts from time to time (Do you remember mop dolls? Yup. I made some of those.) I learned to knit to help my 3 daughters who were attempting it and needed help. I quickly became addicted while they barely touch it these days. There is always knitting in my purse and I pack my knitting before I pack my clothes when I go away on vacation or to my camper. I can’t knit when riding as a passenger unless the road is straight and flat because I easily get carsick. But on longer trips I usually get some quality knitting in.
I’m a substitute teacher and always have knitting along for down times in the classroom.
I’m a pastor’s wife and a homeschool evaluator (homeschoolers in PA are required to be evaluated annually.)

Karen, so glad you have joined our community! It sounds like we have similar crafting backgrounds. It has been a wonderful journey with many treasures along the way. I have tried to teach all my kiddos how to knit but Kaity is the one that loves it the most. Knitting is definitely a good companion to have when things are slow and I need a little something to occupy my hands. ~Diana
What a sweet surprise to find your newest episode today!! Diana, I LOVE the adorable sweaters for your grandsons, and Kaity, congratulations on starting the LYS!! I live in northern CA, so we don't have the caterpillar you mentioned, but I do feel that autumn has arrived with cooler weather--thank goodness!! I won't be making the Ranunculus, but I think I will start on a Mountain High pullover with deep stash worsted weight yarn. I'm almost finished with the slippers for my family for Christmas, and then I can start on the sweater.
Totally going to add ball bands and yarn scrap to my journal!!!

Love watching you two! You both always have the most beautiful projects! Tip to Kaity (as someone who has knit a few sweaters bottom up) I highly recommend knitting your sleeves two at a time! I knit the Nurtured sweater by Andrea Mowry (which is bottom up) and did the sleeves two at a time. So glad I did so I didn't have to keep track of increases twice and essentially knit the same thing two separate times. Either way, excited to see how your cardigan turns out! :)
I love the Rununculus. It is such a great pattern. I have made three so far.

Diana your Felix is Lovely, it was nice to hear you talk of Jo Sharp wool / yarns, She was quite big back in the 90’s with her designs, I was a big Fan with a big collection of her books, as a native Australian. Kaity if you didn’t want to replace the 1st Toe on the socks, just knit the other toe in the new colour , I know they are not the same but no one will see the toes, lol . Always enjoy your podcast. Thanks for another enjoyable episode. Joining in for the Ranunculus fun for my 4th version. This one is out of Sandnes Garn Tynn Line and La Bien Aimee Silk Mohair, in a lovely soft pink colour. My other 3 were green, orange and purple. I'll get a ful rainbow one day.
Kaity, i think the issue with your cast on for Andrea Mowry's pattern is that she uses a Long Tail Tubular Cast On which is somewhat different to the regular Long Tail Cast On. That is why it looks a bit different. It still looks great though so certainly not worth going back. Just thought i would mention it as I just started Pink Velvet by Andrea Mowry and it uses that cast on. She has a video for it which is quite clear. Have a great week. Love your podcast. I’m in Cincinnati. I’m 80 but I still knit as much as possible. I have knitted the Ranouculous (sp) and I did find it difficult, but with all the help I got through it and want to make more.

I'm in Cincinnati and saw a completely black Wooly worm last week on my mother's screened porch. I hadn't seen one for quite a while and thought it was odd to find it in the location i did.

Your projects look wonderful and so do your plans. I love the purple especially. Congratulations on another 1k! We check wooly caterpillars too, but a different breed here in TX They are green with long black hairs and when you see them extra wooly, it is going to get cold. Ryan of Ryan Hall Y'all says it is going to be a super cold winter. He typically gets it spot on so we are going to be checking our caterpillars for sure.

East coast of Canada here. I've aways heard that if wasps/hornets build their nests high above ground, there will be lots of snow..lower to the ground, less snow

I loved the sweaters you made for your grandsons! I love knitting for my granddaughters. I have made two Felix cardigans, and I love them. But I don’t like having a lot of yarn left so I buy just enough and knit the sleeves after I split for the armholes. Once the sleeves are knit, I can more easily tell how long I can make the body. Congratulations on all your new subscribers!

I am from smack in the middle of Missouri and I saw the first wooly worm last week. Very very light in color but bushy as all get out. We call that a very snowy winter. We are over due for some snow because we have had a few dry winters. We grew up with the tale that if the wooly worm was dark on both ends and not in the middle it meant start and end of winter would be bad! Love your podcast and ALL your makes.I made one of my Ranunculus from Tykk Line worsted in Jelly Bean Green and I just make my adjustments as I look at it. My brain works best that way. Hi! When I began knitting I learned how to knit with the English style but about 5 years ago I learned how to knit Continental style. I use both interchangeably now depending on what I’m knitting and how my hands/wrists are feeling. ~Diana
We have wooly worms that are brown and black. I haven’t seen any red ones, but I once saw an all white one. I think that was supposed to mean lots of snow. I haven’t seen any this year yet.

I saw a wooly worm yesterday in the garden and he had no black at all…not even dark brown. Do you ladies know the movie Summer Magic starring a young Hailey Mills? Burl Ives sings a song called The Ugly Bug Ball in that movie. Every time I see a wooly worm, I think of that silly song😊🐛

I live in northern MN in the woods and also a farm periodcially with Leicester Longwools and Wensleydales, my son in law and daughter's farm. I probably told you this before. We check Woolly Bear color amounts for mild/harsh winter predictions as well in New England! I haven't seen any yet this year either.

Lovely episode, as usual! I just started my first Ranunculus today! I found an amazing channel, “Sun Dragon Tips & Tricks”. She has very easy to follow, very detailed video tutorials for the Ranunculus that I’m sure will help anyone needing visual explanations on various techniques. ❤
Diana, your hair is so pretty! The little sweater and vest are adorable! I have wanted to make a Ranunculus for the longest but can't decide on the yarn. I can't do mohair but like the look of the halo. But I also don't want to hold two yarns together 🥴
Kim, I’m the same way, I have an aversion to holding to yarns together…😂 I don’t know why maybe it’s the cost of using two fibers in one garment. The Ranunculus is honestly so forgiving any yarn just about will work. ~Diana
@@thefruitfulhands it does make a garment much more costly when you have to use two yarns for the whole thing. That's part of my issue, I just can't spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars on every sweater. I'm a curvy plus girl so it takes a lot of yarn for my size.

I’ve also seem where you measure upper bust. I think that may be why most of my sweaters are too big. I measured full bust.

Is the color yarn of your husband socks the same as the grand child sweater???
They are similar but not the same color. I think the socks are definitely a little moodier. I just realized how similar they are!😂 ~Diana
