@@SomeTromboneDudeIdk I did and... good lord xD I tkink your conductor wants you dead, watch out! Speaking of insane music programs: once, I played Pilatus by Reineke, the second clarinet concerto of Navarro, Harry Potter (with the famous horn quartet) and Pompei by Piña xD I also played Mata Hari, Jeanne d'Arc by Poelman, Miss Saigon and Reminiscencia Gitana in ONE concert 🥵😅😂😂
There is a great story attached to this piece. Claude T Smith was a 1st chair Horn player in college. His Senior year a Freshman beat him out for 1st chair. Many years later Col. Arnald Gabriel asked Smith to write a piece for the Air Force band that they could not play, so he wrote Festival Variations. Coincidentally the Principal Horn player in AF band was actually the person who beat him out for 1st chair in College. The guy came up to Smith during the rehearsal and said, “I absolutely love the piece, but did you have to make the Horn parts so damn hard?”. Smith looked at him and said, “GOTCHA!!!!”
And now, a moment of silence for our sisters and brothers in the horn section... 😳🙏😅
I can't imagine playing anything after this piece....
@@Sparkle-q5s at least if you survive 😅
Funny thing, I played this a couple months ago after a piece called "Rising Dragons", which is an insane piece(that you should definitely check out)

Interesting how a piece they could not play has become basic literature and has been recorded by a bunch of different wind ensembles.
Played this at Temple University in the 1980s when it was a new work. On horn. Still gives me chills.
N響の演奏に酷似してるな。。と思ったらN響の演奏でした。何度も聴いたから耳心地良かったです。
The pulse from those time signature changes get me every time! Such a great work
I played Tenor Saxophone on this piece and 274 was so much fun to play, such a fantastic piece
WOW !!!!!! absolutely amazing.

Where did you get the score for this?

チューバ吹きがつい吹いちゃうヤツ(^^)
The ending sounds like the composer just took the chord sequence from the ET theme.
haha
nice tune 60s sound to it..out dated for sure,,but much better than most newer stuff
Outdated? Music like this is timeless. Why would you even say that?

Ughhhhhh
Personally really doesn't enjoy this work... Or else I'd do this work's score vid rather than the Variations on a Hymn by Louis Bourgeois.
係咪以前玩band玩過有啲黑歷史lol
