A true statement about combat veterans of every war. What added to the Vietnam veteran's burden was how terribly so many of them were treated by some civilians when they returned home, blamed for the war and disrespected.

What's bad is even today, the media portrays Vietnam veterans as murderers and rapist. My 23yr old daughter made a comment to me about some research she did on the internet and it portrayed them this way. I told her bad things happen in war, but that doesn't make all veterans bad. Our main stream media is poison.

it has to do with that he said "you were raised to think life is precious", and his right life is precious, but so is the life of the people you save, but on vietnam soldiers were not saving anyone like in korea or ww2 where people actually wanted to be saved, in vietnam the vietnamese wanted to live under a tyrant communist regime, its like people and religion, some follow destructive cults.

I had a welding partner that was in Vietnam. He told me things that made my heart drop. The best thing I ever did was listen to him. He said it was great to have a partner that would listen and not judge. It helped his entire existence when he had a way to let it all out.

Thank you sir a million x’s over. My brother was a navy seal. And the American flag & all the soldiers who give it meaning have always meant the world to my whole family. My grandpa was also in ww2 though he likely saw little if none direct engagements. He was an engineer laying phone lines, I believe. My bros best friend at about 10yo, our neighbor, his dad was infantry in Vietnam (Mike Hagel). His best friend was on point one mission stepped on a mine & and it basically eviscerated him. Landed all over him, was obviously brutal & he only ever talked about it once. I hope mentioning this doesn’t harm you & I apologize if so. My dad, WW2 vet, suffered from PTSD until he died at age 72. He was a recovering alcoholic for his last 20 years. He died from cancer of the head and neck. I took care of him until his last breath at home.
My three brothers who were in Vietnam at the same time all had PTSD. All these brave men at times until the day they passed through the veil to the other side would have that look on their faces where they were back in battle.
It is my hope for all of the veterans to finally have peace once they cross over.

Of course they were using agent Orange. The terrain was soo thick and you couldn't burn it naturally
However. It made the pharmaceutical industry that made the poison... very rich. And it did kill the undergrowth. But it had the same affect on the soldier's..and they were treated absolutely disgustingly when the returned. Governments made sure they were not the villains. The soldier's were. Yer right. Even in the second world war. Soldier's returned here: mad
They were put in huge cages that you put big birds in. This came from friends and my dad who did 3 tours in Papua new Guinea 🇵🇬 in ww2 😢

I think I know a little of what he is taking about. My father died over 28 years ago. Probably 35 to 45 years ago my dad just happened to mention to me about his troop ship stopping at the Cliffs of Dover to let air force members off before going on to Germany, this was 1952. I never knew my dad had been to the Cliffs of Dover, and not sure what we were even talking about, but I remember his saying that. Just over 2 years ago a coworker mentioned traveling to England and taking a bus to the Cliffs of Dover; those words, "Cliffs of Dover" rang through my mind and I repeated them to myself a few times and tears began to fill my eyes as I remembered my dad.
Not too long ago I was at Cabelas and saw a father and son join me in the ammo isle. Unbeknownst to me, the young son walked around and put me in between him and his father; then he called out, "Dad!" And for some reason I thought of my 16 year old son who had passed away 5 years earlier, and I said his name under my breath, half wishing it were my son calling out to me. I know this'll sound crazy but I've realized I suffer a form of ptsd, not from combat, just from life. I hope you can't relate to this, but if you can, Be Strong.

This is spot on. I was 18 and shipped to Nam three months before my 19th birthday.
We trained, both simulated and live fire conditions. There is nothing to prepare us to see our team mates die. Much less the face of the enemy when aiming at them.
It wasn’t long before we had to deal with seeing death and destruction around us. It was our job to accomplish whatever mission we had to endure.
I brought home a bit of baggage and spent ten years trying to keep from trying to escape my demons. Much of it, guilt. Getting to come home in one piece was the toughest part.
I volunteered for funeral duty in my spare time and traveled all over Georgia and South Carolina standing for the fallen in 1971-72.
The VA has helped a lot, but it took years. Partly my fault, but also difficult to navigate system was in place up till 2016.

My uncle was a door gunner in Vietnam did several tours. Died of cancer from agent orange a couple years ago. Good man, a strong man, but a man like many who got taken advantage of. I served in the marine corps 14-18. Just learning of the history of many marines before me. Smedly, chesty, basilone, and many more. Smedly even wrote a book on it. War is a racket. We the strong manipulated into fighting for “freedom” and against “terror”. The patriots manipulated for monetary gains. I honor all of those men and women.

PTSD is poorly named. It's not a disorder, it's the normal reaction of normal people to horrible events and situations.

It's a disorder because it exceeds a normal reaction to stress, and it needs treatment and legal compensation. There is nothing insulting about the term.
