Summer of Sam (1999), Brilliant Underrated 👏 Film 🎥 from a last great era of movies before everything started to steadily decline, miss quality cinema from yesterday's times 😢
Perfect song to capture that era/generation/culture; and the way the song picks up in tempo really manages to portray the chaotic nature of that time period and how everything became more out of control.
An absolutely stellar, 100% BRILLIANT statement of the era and that which was to come using pop culture as a vehicle to ride the message straight into the viewer's soul.
This movie was an absolute masterpiece. Spike nailed every aspect of that heatwave blackout summer. Closest anyone has come to exposing the elite Untermeyer Park cult rituals. Has stood the test of time. And now for the (ar)rest of the show!
1977 was definitely a divided and scorching summer of NYC…Son of Sam drugs disco studio 54 rock and roll cbgb and Yankees dysfunctional not to mention the king of rock and roll dead need in go on.
I filmed an in indie movie in which a character gets a 68 Fender Strat. Only problem? Where they heck am I going to get one? We found a music store with one and the guy let us film there and we showed my character buying it and got to film it nice an close up. Pretty great! Problem 2 though. How the heck would I show him on stage playing it? (I'm on a micro budget). Well, I found out Fender makes their own knock offs called Squires, so I found a guy selling a Squire that looked just like the 68 Fender Strat with sunburst for 80 bucks. That's the one my character is playing on stage. I ended up gifting the squire to the guy who helped with a theme song for the movie. Making that movie was the best summer of my life!
Super underrated movie. Amazing cast. Soundtrack. Cinematography. Dialogue. All spot on. Spike knocked it out of the park on this one!
Spike was dead on (not always the case), and got riveting performances from perfectly cast actors in a story that sums up an era.

Most underrated movie of all time!! Classic scene!!
I just seen it for first time. Way better than I expected.

Taking cues from his mentor, Scorsese here...
The depiction of the slang and culture at the time is spot on.
Come On! 13K, where the hell has everybody been? damn this pump's you up, especially in the movie theatre. I was amazed the first time I saw this.

I think Adrian Brody's character being the main character would make this movie even better.

Reggie soluting the camera in slo mo is so perfect. Who says Scorsese is the master at the slo mo?
Don’t ever watch this movie 🎥 after eating mushrooms 🍄
Intense. I was in NYC for all of that.

Elvis' death really adds to the darkness of the 70s. The United States was really another country than the post war boom it had been

I’m annoyed the song isn’t titled “Teenage Wasteland,” such a good name
That's not the name tho
Me too! 😂
I hate when songs have titles that aren’t in the lyrics!!!
