  • Clearing The Allotment Plot, Starting To Prepare The Allotment, Allotment Gardening
For me this is the start of a new gardening challenge. Having wanted an allotment plot for ages so far we have never managed to get one. However, in a moment of coincidence we met someone who was offering some private allotment plots on a recently aquired field that was previously used for keeping chickens on.
The downside to this private site is that it costs more money each year to rent and that the plots have been placed side by side, without the usual access strip of land between.
Also, as the sites have been created on a field they are currently covered in weeds, brambles and other old bits of rubbish.
The plus side is the location, the site is less than a 5 minute walk from the house. Also, there is use of a hosepipe and the owners will allow for a greenhouse or polytunnel. Additionally, as it is a private site the security is a bit better than a normal council type plot.
Having taken on one plot, the plot that is in the video, we have also taken on an odd section of land that also adjoins the plot.
In total the allotment plot now measures 13 x 13 metres which is actually larger than most gardens where we live.
So this is the start of our allotment gardening, and it begins August 2021, and it has to start with a lot of ground clearance of rubbish and strimming weeds and brambles.
Following the general clearance I am going to spray the plot with a general herbicide and see how things develop from that point.

Yes all the council ones around here have ridiculous waiting times. It was by chance that saw a FB post of some private plots in a nearby field.
Hoping for some good crops next year, and less clutter in the garden😂

Thanks for watching. So this video shows just how bad my so called allotment patch was, just over a year ago. With a lot of hard work I have totally transformed the area and really made it quite productive.
Like everything, it’s all about the preparation with the more you put into it the more benefit you get out.
You also end up with a bad back, arms and sore hands🤣
Enjoy your work and don’t forget to do a bit of winter planting to give you a few crops for next year.
