Her horse might seem ill when he's around you because he's vibing off of your energy but for some reason the owners anxious energy makes her horse anxious
She is not a leader inside of her. We can see it in her body language. She needs to be firm and decisive and find the "boss" in her. Not ever hesitate. Great video.
Teaching a horse to respect your space is more important than people think. Mostly, it gets ignored by kindness......but respect can be taught firmly with kindness. Good job here! Another nice horse!
Yes we need to start seeing respect is kindness and that being respectful is a nice relaxing atmosphere to be in.

When you talk about the lead horse, I always think of Mingo, a grade paint. He could do anything and was pretty even tempered with us. However, he was boss of the herd of 4 to 7 horses. When he moved toward another horse, they moved. Always, my friend reminded me, put out one more pile of hay than you have horses.
Also, I can't get over how fine that horse's head is. Just an all around good looking horse.

Wow!! I love that mounting block technique! We always did the fast and aggressive back up from the ground when they refuse to stand quiet in the zone of the mounting block. I like this technique better. I have seen the back up from the ground fail to totally get the message through but that’s because, in my opinion, the horse has interpreted the activity as a mood swing rather than an ask for a particular action. Some handlers are not as specific as they should be and it’s no wonder. Horse language is difficult to learn and understand AND actually use. Not every horse person has the language skills that folks like Ryan and other wonderful trainers have.
IT looks like most people need training more than horses.

I'm working with my 3 year old filly who doesn't always understand personal space. I have 2 other horses so I do see the benefit of having a herd even a small herd of horses. It does help teach the young ones how to behave. Great video! Thanks Ryan for sharing your knowledge.

Handsome horse. Great video When something shocking like that bite happens, with a horse who doesn't normally show aggression, it is very unnerving. They go all in too. It's only happened to me a few times in many years handling many horses. I really appreciate Ryan's approach to this.

My horse was doing great with giving me personal space all & suddenly he bit me! For no reason! I immediately wacked him on the butt with my hand & he jumped away. Never did it again.
There really isn't such thing as 'for no reason' with horses. We just miss the reasons.

My 30 yr old quarter gets in myv9cyr old granddaughters space. She thinks it's sweet but I've told her he needs to respect her space. She is learning but wants to love on him. I said you can show him affection but respecting the space is key.

I had a horse that used to belong to Charro's and she was fine but one day I went to move her feed off the floor and she attacked me I know why she attacked me because Charros take their food away if they don't do exactly what they want as a form of punishment. I was not angry with her I was angry with them whoever did that to her

I can see my 16 month horse un this one. Love to be really close to peuple, but she is in a herd with other mare teaching her good manners and respecting space . Alter couple months its already better . Nice video as always.

If he bit her, there’s no respect. If ANY horse bites you he’s boss you aren’t period. It’s obvious he’s “ tame “ but too tame. I’ve seen spoiled babies like this. Familiarity breeds disrespect.

I got bit by a horse once! She got jealous because I rode the new Arabian my grandmother brought in to board. The owner wanted the Arabian ridden to keep her in practice.

How do you show your intention or energy? Is it a thought or is it a body language?
I learn so much from your videos! They give me motivation :)
think of intention as them reading your mind for what you want them to do, think of energy as the intensity of how much you want them to do it.
Its everything from body language, your thoughts, your emotions, your physical actions. but also goes by everything previous creates patterns and cycles, imagine someone whips a horse every time it gets fed, that will create a pattern of fear any time they see feed which would require a very different approach to create a new pattern outside of feeding to have the level of trust that they could read your connection that you werent like the other person who would hit them at feeing. just a made up example so its easier to understand :)
My advice is go watch some horses loose in a paddock ideally from a distance (or online) and watch how they interact together, then watch how based on their interaction you can tell what their intentions were (they wanted food, water, a sunnier spot, simply wanted to be were another horse was to maintain dominance), then watch how much intensity there was to see how much energy they applied to get their way (including some scuffles if they have to get their intention across from the other horse isnt paying attention).
if you have the opportunity to see them in person, ideally horses you dont interact with, then raise your heart beat like you would feel if you have anxiety and see how instantly they pick up on that energy and start getting spooky, then take some deep breaths and relax and calm yourself down and watch them settle. they can sense you from a long way away! this will really help you learning how to read subtle energy signs :)
I hope this helps, I love helping people understand energy because energy is so important in every aspect of our lives, its the same as that gut feeling of someone is bad news, thats you sensing their intentions, its just something to become aware that your already aware of :)

Sorry but very distracted by the black markings on the withers 😅 Is there a special name for them?
The markings are the characteristics of the buckskin color pattern. This horse has the stripe down his back , black on legs and the withers.
He’s a dun with primitive markings. The shoulder stripe is from his dun markings; donkeys have a more prominent shoulder stripe. Buckskins don’t have primitive markings, except for maybe a faint dorsal stripe.

Question for Ryan... Are those sunglasses the mirror type? I have noticed many trainers wear those, the reflecting, mirrored sunglasses. Is there a reason for them, other than sun protection? Does it influence the horse that they cannot see your eyes? Thank you.

Love Ryan's lesson on respect and space. Brilliantly demonstrated as always. Also - Horses that tend to nip shouldn't be hand fed. Can still give treats but in bucket or feed bowl and get them to back off before placing down. Again back to who is Alpha/dominant. If allowed to take food from you/humans no respect and not seen as leader

13:14 That's a resentful & confused horse being bossed around. So that method is going to work for that older woman who has less confidence / poorer timing to boss that resentful young horse around with the "hot lava" technique with the "relief" to stand waiting to be mounted? Nah! Looks like a future train wreck. -- I'd love to see this horse get a chance with a good clicker trainer. A horse who learns to try to figure out "What are you wanting?" & then will go stand by the mounting block because it wants to do so vs being nagged there. Oh well! I agree that horse needs to learn to respect your space, but with an older lady perhaps more important that horse also learns to just stand quietly where directs them. That's been a big goal for me with mine that they stand quietly as I move around them. No halter, no lead rope and that I can lead them around by the chin. If had that, then she could direct horse to the mounting block (target training) & he'd be happy to comply vs resenting it.
