  • With plans to be integrated with most other indigenously designed aircraft, it makes sense for India to push for integrating the Uttam AESA radars with Rafale-Ms.

    Good presentation but some observations....
    1) Rafale is not the only European fighter with AESA radar, Eurofighter's CAPTOR E is a better AESA radar with mechanical maneuvering capability and Gripen E's RAVEN is also an AESA radar.
    2) Uttam AESA and its Virupasha variant will be used in Tejes 1A, Tejas2 and the "Super" Sukhoi upgrade.
    3) Not using Uttam AESA is GOOD news. Integrating a radar system is not just a matter of plug and play as the new radar will need several years worth of testing and certification, which we cannot afford.
4)Astra 1 is the only variant that has been inducted into the airforce.
    5) Astra Mk2 is still in testing phase and may not be inducted in numbers for another 2 years.
    6) Astra Mk3 has not even been tested from a flying test bed and is years from induction and production
    7) Ukraine has not asked for any Rafales nor has France pledged any to Ukraine so how will Rafale production be affected by Ukraine conflict other that the general supply chain issues?

      Agree with all your points!!
I was about to comment at least 5-6 of them, when I saw your comment...! Good thing I did! Saved me a lot of time!🤣🤣
P.S.: My only gripe would be, that with these many errors, misinformation or/and lack of context, I'd not categorize this as a 'good presentation'! That was quite generous of you!🤣🤣

I agree with most points but the last one .....Ukraine war will definitely affect the production as many of the European countries are shipping their older planes to Ukraine ....so fill back the number they will need newer planes mostly almost exclusively from western countries including France secondly many country will expedite their negotiation for planes seeing an ongoing conflict thirdly the supply chain will get busy as many of the common spares or rigs will be busy

1.Uttam Aesa has been in development for quite a while and is being rolled out at the moment. Further defence acquisitions need to have a long term vision, hence having your own systems is integral
      2. Astra mk 2 is being inducted currently as it is not much different than the mk 1
3 mk3 in all probability has already been tested with the agni 5 v2, if not true flight taka will be fine this year itself with induction from the end of next year or 26 onwards

Good presentation. But some points need to be reviewed.
    Astra mk3 is Indo-Russian product.
Aesa radars have been installed in Gripen Es.
    Astra uses Ramjet tech.
Uttam is not an indigenous radar. It uses Israeli tech.
Dassult cannot achieve its targets because they do not allow manuf beyond French borders (critical tech).
India is trying to optimise its resources by choosing Raf-M because we already have the maintenance facilities for IAF's Rafs. Our carriers too cannot adapt to the US jets. Tejas N version proved ineffective N hence India will have to rely heavily upon Raf Ms. Hopefully, once these french birds fly, we can learn and reverse engg the tech and improvise our Tejas N

    1. Rafale was the first european fighter with aesa radar..but currently it is not the only european fighter with AESA..
    2. Integrating Uttam radar with rafale wont make sense for navy for just a few fighter planes as it will be prohibitively costly due to the sensors fusion in rafale. Uttam radar will have to be made compatible with spectra ew suite. It will be time consuming and Its france..so any such modification will be costly

That's a simple no, first integrate it with the existing fleet of Tejas and Sukhoi, take feedback from IAF and improve it and then you can think of integrating it into rafales...

Air force is the primary ordnance delivery arm of the military. Obviously they have stricter demands. Navy primary weapons are ships and subs. Naval air wing is very small in size and the Indian military doctrine does not emphasize naval air warfare.

    • @narendrabhatawadekar3413
      @narendrabhatawadekar3413 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@mverick5444 Which is unfortunate. India has often been called 'sea-blind'
Over the years there has been focus on the Army & Air Force (which is no bad thing, considering our wars have been fought in the north, north-west, east, north-east). However, it has been at the cost of the navy- which is problematic.
Good thing is, despite the relative neglect over the years visavis. the other 2 wings of the armed forces, we still have a big & capable navy. already. Thankfully someone back then must have had some foresight. Now its only getting better and extremely potent at a pretty brisk pace- relatively.
I am glad someone in the leadership has realised the potential and capabilities of a blue water navy and we are heading in the right direction with zeal - from the naval pov.
Naval air warfare is critical. Not only for power projection- because what good are your carriers without their carrier wing, but also to have the capability to unleash devastating power on a whim- far from your shores. Something an Air Force cannot do minus mid-air refueling.
This capability is something we are going to need more & more in the southern Indian Ocean region & god forbid if shit hits the roof- then in malacca.
Yes 26 rafale M's are just about bare minimum but considering they'r a makeshift arrangement till the TEDBF is ready to fly - it 'probably' makes sense. Probably because, the TEDBF is currently in design stage and given the efficiency, speed - or lack of it, care, or lack of it & general incompetence of our Babus, i really hope it sees the light of day within 7-8 years. Wishful thinking perhaps- but in the world of military acquisition, what isnt ?

AESA radar is highly dependent on the computer system, if you are using the french fire control system, with your own radar, you will have to basically rewrite the entire software that control the radar. it not plug and play. furthermore Rafale is a duel engine plane that has alot more power to play with, it doesn't actually make sense to downgrade the radar to one that is design to be powered by one engine... that is really likely the reason they drop it. there is no point using a domestic solution if it would degrade the capability of the platform.

The prices of these Rafales has been raised a lot too much. India made a fatal mistake not ordering the aircraft on time as a part of a back to back previous deal .Just because of stupidity of our NSA who slept over the criticality aspect of its requirements the French are feeding on India's desperation over its requirements for the aircraft carrier. F35 WAS A BETTER STEALTH UNEXPLORED OPTION .MODI GOVERNMENT MISSED OUT ON PRIORITIES OVER DEVELOPMENT OF TEDBEF FIGHTER AIRCRAFT. INDIAN NAVY AND MINISTRY OF DEFENSE INCLUDING NSA ARE CULPABLE IN THE INDECISION PROCESS .MODI HAS KEPT A IDEOT NSA WHO HAS NON MILLITARY BACKGROUND. INDIA WILL CONTINUE TO PAY A HEAVY PRICE FOR A INCOMPETENT NSA WHO IS NOW TOO OLD TO HEAD THIS IMPORTANT DEPARTMENT.

Key detail missing here- Europeans do have AESA radars. They do not have Gallium Nitride based radars, which we already have as Uttam. the ones offered by Thales is Gallium Arsenide based and it is older technology. Uttam is superior in terms of weight and power consumption and also provides better detection

  • @veritasardens6547
    @veritasardens6547 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

I would say that it is best for India to stick to the Thales-produced AESA radar than going for any indigenous radar unless the superiority of the latter to the former is proven beyond any shadow of doubt or if their idea is to integrate ASTRA with the local radar in case ASTRA only works with the Uttam radar, and no I am not a foreigner but an Indian myself. So the integration delays might actually prove to be a blessing in disguise with respect to the Rafale-M, if the Thales radar is used in the end without any replacement.

    • @vm8136

Delay happens cos after the deal the stupid opposition and media houses make hue and cry about corruption while being on the cheeni payroll themselves. The stupid Indian public believes all that bs and the govt goes into defensive mode while there are cases filed in the Supreme Court. Eventually the supreme court clears the way but not without scaring and humiliating the govt and the Air Force. This wastes critical time and ensures the govt bureaucrats are scared of making any further deals. Understood how the spy games are enacted in real life?
