Things we never learn in school

  • This is episode 11 of my series "Food for thought". While most of my other videos are on food, I occasionally make non-food videos. Don't worry, I'm still extremely focused on improving the Indian packaged food industry and my first priority is that!
Note 1: Hindi version of this video is here- • Things we don’t learn ...
Note 2: This is an updated video of a video I had posted a few months ago. Back then I didn't have as many followers as today so I decided to update the video and post it again so that my new followers could see it.
Note 3: It is completely fine if you disagree with this video. Even my parents disagree with this video. But please disagree in a respectful manner. We can grow as a nation only if we learn to disagree with each other in a respectful manner.

I agree with most of what you said in the video except maybe the mathematics part. It is necessary to teach integration and differentiation at a younger age in order to realize if you would like to choose a math intensive career path as you grow. Although these maths are applied almost in every technology, Unfortunately the application of these maths are too difficult for a kid to understand. However, we must atleast explain to some extent where they are applied. It is like teaching art in schools. Even though most adults dont find any application of art, it is important to teach at a young age so a child can decide whether he or she wants to follow an art based career path.

School is just like the bournvita. Parents feed it thinking that their kid will be smarter but ends up dumber. As Sadhguru said, It's horrible labour. A 9th-10th student wastes 6 hours in school learning bullshit, then 4 hours of classes and 2-4 hours of self study. If one spends that much time from a young age, on developing a business skill, sports skill or art skills like music, acting, etc, he'll surely be much more successful in his 20s. Whereas he will be doing a minimum wage job with a 15th pass college degree at early 20s. But no one wants to invest time on skills, they think it's difficult to get selected from hundreds or thousands of players but they'll compete in useless exams instead where crores of competitors exist, running behind CAT, JEE, UPSC, etc.

Basic education imparts generic knowledge that get the student prepared so that he/she can opt to learn more later and become an expert in a specific field. Just because the formula of a rhombus is not applied in general by everyone does not mean that experts in specific fields don't apply it.

Your comment is hypocritical on it's own. School is made to provide general information and knowledge, so it should focus on subjects that'll be useful in most people's lives. Not on subject that'll be useful to specific handful of people. If one has interest in particular subject, he can learn it easily in a short class separately. It's useless information if it's not for broader audience.

And not just Mughal Empire history, in fact it was a very small proportion of the portion. ( cbse board )

Not true, we were barely taught ang ancient and medeival history, we never learnt about mauryans, guptas or the kushans and barely anything about hindu kings. It was all about delhi sultanate and mughal empire. It literally was 2-3 lessons just blabbering about mughals. Modern history was the only good part buy we only got 1 lesson for after independence and skimmed of subash chandra bose contributions, we never knew about modern politics and the outright idiocracy of congress rule after independence. To know the talent we have in us we have to explore or someone should guide us. But our education system is just depend on books theory knowledge. Schools should conduct practicals more than theories.

Let me add here something humanities gives perspective which is such an essential aspect of human mind your whole personality is created on the basis of that, your thoughts, your views all are the embodiment of the perspective you hold in which humanties as a subject holds a much inportant role reading the indian tax system is as much important as reading the literary works of premchand or shakespeare
