Watching interviews with Kieran always gives me instant motivation to produce. I could listen to him talk about music production forever. What a gift this podcast is.
Same! I feel an affinity with his process since mine is very similar. I make a ton of material to draw from and then use that as like collage material. Hearing him talk about it makes me immediately want to go and make stuff.
Great video. Great detail in how he makes his tracks in Ableton... vst's used, shuffle/swing, randomisation %, etc. Plus love Four Tet! More like this, please!
As someone who has dabbled with computer music production I feel confident saying that Four Tet is a natural. He has something in his make up that just gets creating music this way. He makes it all sound effortless. The way he describes he works is exactly how I work. But I am rubbish at it.
So interesting how each render is slightly different because of the randomization, almost sounds like a fun easter egg. I wonder if he intentionally doesn't freeze the track
He might have started at a different tempo, and used varispeed to speed/pitch up or down? there's a cool max device for that, and I usually end up with weird tempo values
this is an interview not a breakdown, the only thing I am impressed with is the fact that he uses just a few channels looking at the zoomed out arrangement
Not a complete detailed breakdown but he does breakdown parts of the project. A lot of the video is still a breakdown. He literally solo's tracks and describes how he made them

Kieran "Let me give a harp a go" Hebden
similar to alice coltrane but with quite a different outcome
Thanks so much for posting. This song was all I needed for about a week, when I really did need it.
I just want to say thank you for these videos. It has got me back into writing again. I now cant stop writing bangers 😂
This is why we do what we do. Love to hear it 💪

I agree he's super talented, but how much is actual practice?
@@jasonharrison5765 yeah when you've been producing at club level for 25+ years it should be fairly second nature to know what sounds good
The harp being different every time would drive me insane
I love randomness in music, but it does drive me insane, using techniques like this

when I first heard the track it immediately reminded me of Rez by Underworld
Love this podcast! Teenage birdsong would be another nice track to cover !
4::30 I understood: "I often start with a harp and think `this is so boxed standard KAREN`" lol
A fantastic track - very similar melody to Underworld's Rez
me my lappy and i :)
thank you. really inspired me to do sometimes a happy accicdent \m/
I'm wondering how he came up with that tempo of 128.39
golden ratio * 42 (meaning of life number)
@@TC-lk2ev how? wouldnt that be 1.618 * 42 = 67.956?
@@lucasnolasco6590 haha yeah i was just messing around

it’s the tempo of the first loop he dragged in
the single cycled kick is messing with my head
He just like me fr
Is there a full version of this podcast?
He coulda just bounced out that harp part as audio 😅
That'd be boring...😂
of all the things not to bounce and lock down, I'm glad he chose that one.
I dont think he's implying that it's variation is a bad thing, quite the opposite
four tet makes me embarassed to have ableton projects with 80+ tracks, this guy is proof that sound selection is the most important part of producing
Unwatchable due to too much milking of advertising
this is an interview not a breakdown, the only thing I am impressed with is the fact that he uses just a few channels looking at the zoomed out arrangement
I think his long career has taught him simplicity with a good arrangement is the best

@@b1nary_f1nary yeah and why he made them
