i met a stranger on omegle 5 years ago and we talked into the wee hours of the night about everything and anything. we told each other secrets that we swore we would keep. although ill never know who that stranger was, i remember they told me this was their favorite song. so i come back to it every now and then and wonder how they’re doing. i hope life has treated them well. i hope they know someone out there is rooting for them. and i hope sometimes, somehow, they might think of me too.

I have 4 kids, another on the way, and it’s always the first time. A new life, a new burden, a new joy, a new hope. They’ve all been awesome in their own way. And they seem to keep getting better. By the time I’m a grandpa (God willing), I expect a lot of honest living, loving, and to eventually pass that torch of knowledge to those who are unsure how they’ll do it. Well, that’s easy: just like I did. One step at a time.

I think it's worth noting how positive and encouraging the comments on this video are. This song taps into deeply shared need that is a basic part of our humanity. It's a beautiful thing.

I will always remember the long, lonesome beaches, the ghost cities, the tiny villages, midday sun, midnight stars, dried out lakes, glowing waves, smiles, cries and alcohol-laced conversations seeping from within me, polluting the vast distances around me, roaring like a broad sea between me and everything else, neverendingly distancing us, with this song ringing in my head all throughout.

I heard this song, and band for the first time last night. I've listened to it about 30+ times by now. It was immediately moved to my favorite song. I've never been so touched in the soul by a song in a long time. And when that drum beat kicks in, I literally melt on the inside, and almost shed a tear. This is the meaning of beautiful. This song...is for lack of better words....how my heart beats. Wooden Heart is how you move mountains, my friends.

There are many people who use music as mere entertainment or a lubricant for socialising. This is a band for those us who look to music not just as a tool for emotional release/rebalance, or a crutch to support and empower us through hard times or even to magnify the intensity of the great times, but also if we just want to be enthralled in something that seems to feel infinitely more important than ourselves. I truly love music and i am captivated by this band. Absolutely superb...

      @duck5tar ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hats off, I not just listen to it, but will sit here listening to it over and over again. If you are drawn to it, you are truly, and utterly drawn to it. It means more than mere music, it speaks beyond the soul, to the unending dream of eternity, the voice we all clamour to hear but never sit still enough to listen to...

What I enjoy is that it was made out a person's experience. A part of their life has been committed to something others can tangibly grasp. It makes you feel something, not necessarily what they did when they wrote/performed it, but something. Life has been made that little bit richer for those that it affects.

I wish the world truly understood that line about "we all have the same holes in our heart"... I love that. It's the same to me as "under the skin, we're all the same skeleton".

For what it's worth, I found this video about 10 years ago. It's my go-to on bad days, when I need to let off stress, or when I get the "what song always makes you cry?" question.

Got off drugs listening to Listener for months. Brain was on fire and I felt this manic happiness with waves of emotions again while playing this. Unfortunately I’m back on drugs and I don’t have the emotional reach I did when I quit but I cherish that time.

I've never felt so moved by any other album. Wooden Heart is truly beautiful, every time I listen to it, I feel like I'm out at the lake, underneath the stars with my family. My sisters taking summer classes this year and wont be home...its gonna be tough makin it through the summer without her. I wish I could make the same memories that i did when i was younger, and I'm only 16 now. I wish i could feel like i did when i was 12. Just innocent with my family, god i miss it.

Heard this on the drive back from an exhausting gig. 20-mile stretch of pine-covered highway, the sun was just coming up. Overtired and eyelids heavy, I believed in time travel for those four minutes. Like others have said, it brings you back to life.

Tonight, I've just experienced my first exposure to the "spoken word rock" genre of music. I'm glad this is my first impression; it's a good one.

WOODEN HEART (sea of mist called skaidan)
We’re all born to broken people on their most honest day of living
and since that first breath... We’ll need grace that we’ve never given
I've been haunted by standard red devils and white ghosts
and it's not only when these eyes are closed
these lies are ropes that I tie down in my stomach,
but they hold this ship together tossed like leaves in this weather
and my dreams are sails that I point towards my true north,
stretched thin over my rib bones, and pray that it gets better
but it won’t won’t, at least I don’t believe it will...
so I've built a wooden heart inside this iron ship,
to sail these blood red seas and find your coasts.
don’t let these waves wash away your hopes
this war-ship is sinking, and I still believe in anchors
pulling fist fulls of rotten wood from my heart, I still believe in saviors
but I know that we are all made out of shipwrecks, every single board
washed and bound like crooked teeth on these rocky shores
so come on and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember
I am the barely living son of a woman and man who barely made it
but we’re making it taped together on borrowed crutches and new starts
we all have the same holes in our hearts...
everything falls apart at the exact same time
that it all comes together perfectly for the next step
but my fear is this prison... that I keep locked below the main deck
I keep a key under my pillow, it’s quiet and it’s hidden
and my hopes are weapons that I’m still learning how to use right
but they’re heavy and I’m awkward...always running out of fight
so I’ve carved a wooden heart, put it in this sinking ship
hoping it would help me float for just a few more weeks
because I am made out of shipwrecks, every twisted beam
lost and found like you and me scattered out on the sea
so come on let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, just some tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember
My throat it still tastes like house fire and salt water
I wear this tide like loose skin, rock me to sea
if we hold on tight we’ll hold each other together
and not just be some fools rushing to die in our sleep
all these machines will rust I promise, but we'll still be electric
shocking each other back to life
Your hand in mine, my fingers in your veins connected
    our bones grown together inside
our hands entwined, your fingers in my veins braided
our spines grown stronger in time
because are church is made out of shipwrecks
from every hull these rocks have claimed
but we pick ourselves up, and try and grow better through the change
so come on yall and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, were just tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember

Just when all my hope is completely gone and I don't think I'll make it, God whispers to me. He points me towards hope, gives me reassurance that there is still hope, and that I'm still here. "I still believe in anchors." This song is one of mine.

I saw listener probably 3 years ago playing in the back corner of a littler burger place with about 8 people in my tiny town (3,000 people) in the middle of Idaho. I didn't really understand what it was then, but it was one of the most powerful and amazing experiences of my life. Ever since I've wanted to see him again sooo badly, I can't even explain what his music does to me or why. I'm glad he's starting to get known now so maybe I can get a chance to see him on a real tour :)
