This was on an episode of American Bandstand back in 1987/88 on the Rate A Record segment. Dick Clark’s last season as host. It beat the other song (Little Walter)! I had that episode on VHS and loved this song ever since. I had just been thinking about it recently and TH-camd it! Great stuff, still sounds current.
As a danse society fan I remember buying the 12 inch and thinking what the ****? But actually it was ahead of its time and sounds quite cool now, very cold cut. This was an indie dance track that pre-dated baggie and madchester. The execution isnt quite there but it was quite visionary and kind of fitted in with the cutting edge of the time - like ar Kane and marrs Pump up the volume.
Thanks for posting! I have not seen this video in some time but this is, hands down, the most underated (and one of the best) video of the late 80's. My wife (girl friend at the time) was a DJ in a dance club and I made her play this every evening! Very, very cool vid!
Steve Rawlings was the Original lead vocals for The Dance Society, one of my favorite bands. In 86/87 Steve left DS. Started this side project called it Society but,had nothing to do with the rest of the members of SD. Society had this song and,Saturn Girl. Steve Rawlings is amazing in
I don't remember him or want to in this. I will just think that in 1988 while living in Hollywood that the L.A. air clouded his judgement. Cause,he is freaking amazing with the danse society. I still love& respect Steve but, will forget about this!😋
The 909 to Acid House... is what the 808 was to Hip Hop. Both were initial flops for Roland but came back as each of these music genres came to be popular.
My friend and ,i where just talking about this song. He tells me how can't I not "Love it?" this song.Well I said I will take another listen...hmmmm NO,I still don't love it!!! lmao...Steve Rawlings is one of my favorite vocalist but,...
Get Freemake Video Downloader. It has a one touch download button that appears above the video box and you don't have to wait for the whole vid to load either. Then use a encoder app like Handbrake, Freemake Audio Converter or WinFF to rip it into an MP3. Works great!
That's not a sample. That's the original lyrics from Society. FYI, Society was formerly "The Danse Society" and recorded Goth-y dance tracks, including a cover of 2,000 Light Years From Home. They were kinda goth-lite pop dance. Kinda fun.
Reminds me of the old "Demos" and "Trackers" that used to circulate on the Atari ST and Amiga back in the 80s and 90s like Micro Mix by Radical Systems. Definitely not TDS but fun all the same.

Have looked for this song for many years. Can't believe it's here!
Only just learnt this exists tonight...I really want to like it, but unsure. Steve looks bloody beautiful as ever though...
I like this. Reminds me of those "Vision" clothing ads from the 80s.
Acid house music
F*ck me. 32 years and later and I finally locate this track

Yes. 2,000 Light Years From Home and Say It Again were their most popular "hits"
This song was a hit at the Rave parties in Detroit in the late 80's!
This was used in the Mixbusters Relax Megamix

Yes it has a lot of sample. Bomb the bass used some of the same.
Weren't these guys called 'Danse Society', the goth/dance group from earlier on in the 80s before they shortened their name?
