Got many an odd look wrecking out goth style in all our finery to this ,Alice, Hong Kong Garden and many more at our local working mens club. And then finding The Crypt in Hastings…❤️happy days.
I love The Danse Society ! The very beautiful song and the beautiful video traveled me back to the old and pure tradd goth years ! It was a very beautiful dark trip to my memories!!!
Gary Numan-influenced. If you listen to his "Berserker" album it is almost the same vocals and instruments. Another very close, underrated musician is Bill Sharpe, whose "Famous People" album unfortunately missed the radio-boat. I am not sure if there were a female vocalist, just that Sharpe had a high-male voice.
reminds me of Madusa's, in Chicago, back in 1987. I was in the Navy and would take the L train there and get off at Bellmont/Shefield where the club was. It was like another world.
Thanks for your comment, Victoria Lily. We journey together through time in the evocation of your memories. This period was a real state of mind. The kids made their own cloths and dressed themselves. And they claimed really something.
Yup, definitely my type of nightclub to fit in, no probs, wearing My dark gear with pride, leather jacket, white shirt, black jeans, my motorbike boots on, and the leather assault gloves, Aayyyeeee, Mcp x
I was there at the time, and very much into this scene. But don't kid yourself that we didn't feel the same as that at the time. If you had a time machine and got to go back, the first thing you'd discover is there were few of us then just as there's few of you now. There never was a time when a "generation matched that soul." We were regarded as freaks then too. I think watching videos like this gives outsiders the impression there were tons of us, but the camera isn't revealing these people had to congregate. There were never more than a handful in any school or mall or neighborhood. We were isolated then too. And there was no novelty to it; you'd get excoriated for "living this life" back then. It may seem like the general population was more accepting of different groups in those days like this. Maybe in certain places, but where most people lived, hell no. You're better off living this life here and now than then. We could barely walk from the car door into the gas station without getting ragged on, or worse. Here's another thing. You have an advantage now we didn't then. You have access to the entire era as well as the power of the internet to have tons of what was hard to find then. In any given year, we had no access to anything not yet created, but you do. Much good music completely slipped us by because it was coming into and moving out of access. When a song was a year or two old, even many those in the clique didn't want to hear it anymore as dated. None of these issues hang over you as a displaced fan here and now. And yes, it is an advantage. Just wanted to give you some POV you might appreciate.
Ok Mr Orwell. Are you comfy with your vinyl collection and bookcases scented with 'rich mahogany'? Valerie darling. Romantisise this period as much as you like. Trust me it was a great scene to be in. Friday finish work. Go home and 'glam' up. Then go out with your friends. We had a rule at our local pub and that was meet between half 7/8pm and meet at the bar. The nights were amazing, the laughter unforgettable and the good times always remembered to this day. Just enjoy the music and don't let these bands be forgotten. If the 'scene' is dead then do your part and bring it to life ;) x

Easily my favorite song from this band!!! Hell to the Yes!!! Damn...this song and band just hits close to home in everything. I was lucky enough to be a young teen in the 80's but I didn't discover this band until the early 90's but still got my tabs on them. Love this band!!! Fuck YES!!!

This was the best era for music and counter culture. We were goth before they even had the word goth!
Talented band. Back then, there were no goth clothing stores. No Hot Topic. Everything was patched or put together from whatever you could find.
the way the good lord intended
And people say goth is expensive man, not if you're into looking like this. Worked out perfectly for me
