Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons. We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced a pretty good ICE daily driver (an older panamera turbo), and I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the panamera one bit. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), use of space (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, perfectly even weight distribution, and even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. We bought our Jag used CPO, and yes we’ve lost money on its value - but the same would have been true of the panamera or a Jaguar f-pace ICE suv. All luxury cars / daily driver values are dropping right now. EVs may be dropping quicker, but you also spend less on fuel and maintenance to make up for it. The only maintenance on our Jag in two years is a cabin air filter. Having said all of that, we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an older Mini Cooper JCW), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great, but I have no interest, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever giving up gas for sports cars.
As a German , I don't understand this decision . Just within the last 4 months i had two long Autobahn trips , one included an extreme rain water conditions one - reminiscent of 1990s F1 rain battles in Spa - , the other was recently in snowy/salt conditions where basically your car just over time gets doused / sprayed / covered in grime . Both times I used the rear windshield wiper well enough . Especially in Germany , where on the Autobahn some super speeding psychos can always appear on the horizon in the rear view mirror , it is s-u-p-e-r essential to avoid lane change collisions , I assure you . But then again , I am an atypical defensive driver who most of the time follows the "Rechtsfahrgebot". I guess the "smart" folks in Zuffenhausen think Porsche drivers always floor to the maximum and don't need "assistance" like that for us mere mortals. They probably think something like "where we are going we don't need any rear windshield wipers ! " or "rear windshield wipers? that's for peasants ! "
FYI Edmund’s real world range test in good weather at an average speed of 60-65 mph was 325 miles for Macan 4 and 305 miles for Macan Turbo. Less range would be expected in winter and/or in heavy rain and/or with a strong headwind. Additional 4S and base Macan models were just added to the lineup (four electric models in total now) that should get real world good weather ranges of about 315 and 350 miles respectively. Slower cheaper electric Macans achieve longer range perhaps due to weight differences. It’ll be nice someday when an electric Porsche (and EVs in general) get 600 miles of range. Here in Ireland anything in that range would pretty much guarantee never having to need to use a public charger if you have home charging. 305 miles is not bad, but that’s on a new battery in good weather. City driving gets more range, but long range matters largely for driving longer distances. Buying a new EV, especially a luxury one, with 600+ miles of range will be when EVs have truly arrived IMO.
I actually work at the Porsche development center in Weissach, Germany and I had a run with it as a passenger on our test facility a couple of weeks ago. It drives insanely well around corners and the build quality is insane
The Macan will flop in sales like all EV vehicles .I consider this a really bad move by Porsche for not following the market . Making the Macan a hybrid would've been the smarter choice .
it's political pressure by ESG Wall Street , German stock exchange & German companies traded there are over 60% in foreign owner hands. Plus the state of Baden-Württemberg , Porsche's home , was the incubator for the German Green Party , so there is that and then the EU & UN climate goals net zero thing. Engineers aren't known to be able to stand up for themselves.
But, I do have a question: have you ever seen, in a highway, an EV to overtake you at a speed over (let's say) 180km/h??? It never happened to me, cause, I guess, whatever the vehicle could be, if they do so, they'll run out of battery in less than 10km
Glad to see a nice blend of physical buttons and minimalism in the interior department. I really wish more manufacturers could get their act together and give customers climate controls that are operated with knobs or buttons again. Glad to see physical buttons blended with minimalism in the interior. Also nice to see a German-made EV with a proper front trunk.
I'm not agree with the decision to turn all electric. Taycan's demand is really poor... The oldest Macan was in sale for a decade, i don't think this will hace the same success.
Looks like a super cool car. But gotta say, I am not buying an EV anytime soon and I think most of the USA is with me. Just look at the disaster in Chicago with the cold weather. Not nearly enough charging stations for a road trip and even if we did, it would crash the grid. EV's are cool and I hope they work, but it's a no from me right now.
Indeed, they aren't there yet. I have a model Y but I live in LA where these problems will never reach me, but I think ICE cars are far superior to the vast majority of consumers in terms of price, reliability, and service. EVs need more time to catch up before it can be a truly viable option to replace gas cars. I'd only recommend an EV if the city someone lives in has ample chargers(usually teslas) and doesn't get too cold. Even then a gas car would be cheaper on average(aside from getting gas itself vs charging).
This video is gonna piss off so many Porsche fans, describing Porsche as an SUV company with a sports car lineup, introducing an EV SUV named Turbo (!?), but the car looks damn good though...
I think they also announced an even more powerful version as the current versions only mirror the power output of the Audi Q6 etron. However, another EV show drove the Turbo version from Munich all the way across the Austrian Alps to Lake Garda without recharging, and concluded it was massively efficient.
@@resadrecebli2263 Bio fuel cannot be cheap by nature.... Current synthetic e-fuels are more expensive than race fuel... and it is not possible to scale up production for a number of reasons. Lastly, internal combustion engines have issues that are impossible to fix, such as low energy efficiency, since more than 80% of the energy produced, becomes thermal instead of kinetic. That means 80% energy loss... On the contrary, electric motors have a very low energy loss rate: Approximately 20%. That is 4 times less losses than ICE. Also, electric engines have few moving parts, no gearbox, no driveshaft and no other parts that could break, unlike ICE.... In other words, there is no comparison... Fun fact: In Norway, 90% of new car sales are electric. It's really game over for ICE.
Living in Chicago where we just saw a huge pile up of dead Teslas at a super charger during a winter storm, I suspect the new macans will not sell nearly as well in colder climates. fyi the current macans sell really well here.
EVs aren't quite there yet when it comes to cold. Tesla just released a new update that helps out with this problem by warming up the charging port when you navigate to a charger. However, I'm not arrogant enough to claim that this fixes it to the point consumers would like. EVs are still relatively experimental, with teslas being very common across the country due to price cuts. Despite that, the technology won't be there for at least another few years. Even as a tesla owner, I'd say ICE cars are currently far more reliable in the long run. Although where I live in, LA, is probably one of the best cities for charging and climate for EVs.
Well if you want to lose a shed load of money..yeah all good..i guarantee Porsche dealers forecourts will be full of em after an initial surge..just like the Taycan.

I wonder what turbo charged batteries feel like
They probably play a turbo noise through the speakers lol
The price seems to rule out volume sales
Somebody always says that about every new car regardless of category from entry level to ultra luxury. Every single one.
Love the b-roll 😂
I think Macan as an Ev is ok , but don’t like the look …
Me either
I still find it stupid they call it turbo…
Most compressive review of tis car!
A plug in Hybrid is starting to make more sense than these full blown EV'S
exactly, when battery is over, what will people do?
I dont get why Porshe is still using the turbo badge on an all electric vehicle!
i dont know why they sell EVs at all because their sale are shitty lattelly but when (german ) tax payers pays losses probably they dont care
@@Mr11ESSE111they’re literally not the taycan sold SO WELL
Taycan only lose value so well !! 2 year old Taycan now worth less then Škoda Octavia ICE with 110-150hp @@jjjfo1818
I actually work at the Porsche development center in Weissach, Germany and I had a run with it as a passenger on our test facility a couple of weeks ago. It drives insanely well around corners and the build quality is insane
Will it come with a gas engine as well? Or its only electric?
@@born1in1a1sauna BEV only for this generation. It is developed from ground up on a new electric platform shared with the Audi Q6 e-tron
@@rubystarcarrera ah, thats sad. But thank you for the reply
"turbo" but electric?
Did they explain that the car doesn't have a turbo?
The Macan will flop in sales like all EV vehicles .I consider this a really bad move by Porsche for not following the market . Making the Macan a hybrid would've been the smarter choice .
it's political pressure by ESG Wall Street , German stock exchange & German companies traded there are over 60% in foreign owner hands.
Plus the state of Baden-Württemberg , Porsche's home , was the incubator for the German Green Party , so there is that and then the EU & UN climate goals net zero thing.
Engineers aren't known to be able to stand up for themselves.
It Well Sell A Lot Of Units because soccer moms will buy these cars for space and storage rather then buying practical wagons
More of a hot hatch than ever. Looks great in the front...not so much in the rear. . Sad its only EV
Every time I see a new car I'm reminded I should be investing heavily in the aftermarket wheels business!
Honda HR-V meets Porsche Taycan was the first thing that came to mind, not gonna lie. Want to see it compared with the Maserati Grecale.
I think you meant 11kw AC charger not 11kw DC charger.
Either way, you need DC to charge a battery.
@@taideeno you don’t. You can choose to charge at home with 11 kw ac or at a fast charger at 270 kw dc
I've had 2 Macans. This is badass.
First glance, I thought it was a Hyundai Ioniq 6
But, I do have a question: have you ever seen, in a highway, an EV to overtake you at a speed over (let's say) 180km/h???
It never happened to me, cause, I guess, whatever the vehicle could be, if they do so, they'll run out of battery in less than 10km
5:01 the face of surprise!
Can’t wait to see it be drop in value by 50% in 12 months!!!
Cool story 😂
That would be awesome for 2nd hand buyers. Get a 1 year old Porsche car for the price of new chevy equinox
The only electric cars I'd every buy, taycan and macan
Is that a burp in 4:59 ??😅
Not a fan of EVs but the Macan blends looks and practicality nicely. Turbo wish list ice for me all day long.
The petrol Macan look miles better, apart from the lower roofline on the Ev it just looks a bit frumpy.
Depreciation on wheels
Like all production cars then. EVs are no better or worse
@@harrymc523 Come on, the anti-EV crowd needs something to despirately clutch at.
@@harrymc523 actually EV depreciation is catastrophic. Look at low mileage Jaguar EV’s or even the Taycan.
You say that like there's a car that doesn't depreciate.
I'm in the market for a Macan, but I think I'll go ICE model. New one is nice, better than I expected, but expensive and I'm not ready to own an EV
liking the turbo already
Also - what's the point of calling it a Turbo if there aren't any turbos on the car?
I have seen some videos of the test drive. While they couldn’t push the car hard, the range looks very promising
Possible 380 miles range, so real world 250 if you're lucky and all conditions are perfect.
I can’t decide if I like the purple color or not. I need to see it in person. We’re on the wait list for one and we’re trying to decide on color
I'm not agree with the decision to turn all electric. Taycan's demand is really poor...
The oldest Macan was in sale for a decade, i don't think this will hace the same success.
Sorry to hear that porsche!
The front looks great in my opinion but that rear is one only a mother could love
A very happy Maserati Grecale owner is all I’m gonna say here. Switched from a Macan GTS.
The vw beetle is back!
95K today 50K tomorrow nobody wants Evie's depreciation is dropping through the floor
I think they also announced an even more powerful version as the current versions only mirror the power output of the Audi Q6 etron. However, another EV show drove the Turbo version from Munich all the way across the Austrian Alps to Lake Garda without recharging, and concluded it was massively efficient.
The glitch effect transition looks cheap. Good video overall as well. Well done TG,
How to make a best-seller, a not best-seller.
Fantastic, leather free "leather" is a good thing? Garbage plastic seats just call it what it is.
Too bad Porsche didn't make those models with a petrol option.
Petrol is dying....
@@Seventh7Artnah, biofuel will be a thing (hopefully)
Unless you're a mum taking the kids to football practice it's not the car for you anyway.
There's never really been a need for a Macan to begin with, so....
and BYD seal gets 3.8 seconds at less than half the cost
imagine calling leather free leather superior xddd
its simply a way to cut costs and leave customers with a product with limited lifespan
If the ICE Macan got a similar interior update then it would be a no brainer. GTS would be backordered
Well if you want to lose a shed load of money..yeah all good..i guarantee Porsche dealers forecourts will be full of em after an initial surge..just like the Taycan.
Those turbo namings are becoming very silly on electric Porsches... Naming throughout the whole care industry is becoming extremely silly and confusing
Looks good, but Ev's I just don't like the whole charging inconvenience
£70k for the base model vs £50k now? Do they think this will still be a top seller at that base price?
How much are BMW and Mercedes EVs?
