  • If you haven't set your suspension up on your standard Tenere 700 with stock suspension, you are in for a ride. A smoother ride!
    In this video you will get a recipe that made my suspension a lot better. Just by turning a few (scary knobs).
    Set this recipe, and feel how it works for you.
    If you are not satisfied, you can easily revert back to factory settings.
    Here are the settings:
    - Fork
    - Rebound (upper screws): 17 factory (13 new)
    - Compression (lower screws): 11 factory (7 new)
    - Bak
    - Rebound (lower screw): 13 factory (9 new)
    - Compression (upper screw): 15 factory (10 new)

    Update!
    I am using a spring for my weight. It's the 85N/mm spring from Rally Raid and I have about 4 clicks on it. It also makes a big difference from stock. I should perhaps even have one step stiffer spring.

    • @jakestrom4906
      @jakestrom4906 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The correct springrate for you'r weight is the key to a good suspensionsetup.You have changed the rear spring.What made you think that you didn't have to make the same change to the frontsprings?

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most change rear only. Better to change front also of course but few do because its more work i guess. And i dont have to 😊 i may be quite ok with this for now

    • @NomadSweden

      Im sure it will be better. Not saying you are wrong. Just saying most dont do fork springs and some day I will do it for sure. This video is mostly about the rebound/compression which most people dont dare to touch.

      When you wined adjuster all the way in you need to go out to the first click, that is you zero point.

    Made this adjustment yesterday about 185 lb or 84 K. Most ride back roads. not much off road. This change made a huge difference in performance for me.

    First a big thank you for this! I am 100kg plus gear, upgraded spring 8.5. I normally ride with luggage gravel travel and rough camping. It never really felt good. So today I used your settings the a fun ride of mud, unmaintauned roads and gravel high speed. The settings worked great. I have + 26000 km the rest will be much better. If you ever get to Alberta Canada you have a free place to stay while you explore....

    Very interesting indeed. I have been trying many different clicker settings on my 690 over the past 12 months or more. I change things, ride then make notes. Repeat, repeat. After setting the sag, I like 3 to 4 clicks harder than stock, for both rebound and compression, which is basically the same as your settings. Cheers

    Hi Robert, long time no seen! Thank you for the tips! You said you should have done this sooner. Well, maybe not too soon.
    IMHL, we (hopefully) evolve as riders and the compression and rebound for a track that you ride now *should* differ than the the ones you rode 45k km in the past. You definitely know intimately your bike after so many kms and you are able to ride it more aggresively now. You also have something to compare it to. ✌

    It’s the Robert magic effect 🤩, like looking behind the scenes of David Copperfield 😁🤪 seriously many thanks for the tips- I still have another spring for my weight but never changed the rebound and compression. So did today and „tested“ some meters the street nearby - for my opinion it worked much smoother from the first feeling. On the weekend I have 200+ km of street riding to an off-road park and then on Sunday I could test also off-road - so I am looking forward 😁. So many thanks!!

    I have had my 2022 T7 since late May. I hadn't changed the suspension settings from stock because I needed to re-spring for my weight (113 kg without gear)... in fact I bought the springs before the bike was delivered. After a busy summer I finally installed the 95N K-Tech rear spring this week and immediately felt that I had made a mistake. On my first road ride the bike was severely under damped (was bouncing after bumps) and just didn't feel good.
    I saw your video and used the settings as you presented (one click more rebound damping in the rear). I will play with adjustments once I get the fork springs in... but this made a huge difference.
    Thanks for the video... just the nudge I needed to start playing with the settings.

    How come Yamaha has not shown this before? After all the complaints from different people who mostly found the suspension too soft and then went to spend several thousand euros too buy and install a so called "better suspension " from Rally Raid or someone else who wants your money!!! Good for you Robert, who is the first one that I have seen on You tube to use some common sence and check the stock suspension. Werll done!

    Now i've tested these settings and put one more click for the rebound and so it works fine for me with a little bit more comfort.👍🏼 I weight 89 kg.

    Good job, you got to play with it. There's only so much effect the stock adjustments provide. A little hair around the bottom of the fork would help. Safe riding from the hills of east Kentucky USA. Look forward to a new vid from you. Always interesting perspective.

    It is good idea to put cable tie on fork tube to see how far front fork compress and than adjust it properly. It should stop 2-2,5 cm from the bottom. Than your compression is set properly. It is also good to have some place to test suspension where is different surface and than after every lap make adjustments to find perfect balance. With rear shock absorber you make the same but remember alweys start with finding SAG. On Yamaha Tenere 700 I have problem to set perfect SAG for my weight but I'm close to that. That's why some riders have to change springs for more progressive.

    This simple tune removed that awful rear jarring that you feel up your spine when you hit a sharp bump at speed and made a noticeably smoother ride. Awesome free receipe!

    Thanks Robert, I ride an Africa Twin, but I am just going out to the shed to check to see if I can adjust its suspension in the same way.

    Haha. Now you've started something! I've been messing with the clickers on my 1200 Super Tenere for years. Watched this vid, went to the shed, applied the principles of your settings (fewer clicks on the ST12). Took it for a thrash down the nearest dirt road. Yup, works on the 1200 as well. 👍😃

    Stort tack för tipset! Gjorde detta på min T7 Rally häromdagen och märkte direkt skillnad! Tvättbrädorna tex var skakiga som bara den innan, nu är de helt borta :).
