Last update before TGS. All credits goes to Blackkite on twitter.
    Project team leader:
    Yosuke Tomizawa
Producer of new console God Eater:
    Tomiyama-san
    Director: Hiroshi Yoshimura
    Producer of Code Vein:
    Iizuka-san
    Director: Hiroshi Yoshimura
    Developer is Bandai Namco Studios.
    ~Old days
    General producer: Yosuke Tomizawa
    General director: Hiroshi Yoshimura
    Developer: Shift
Explains the non-activity on Shift's twitter lately. They used to be very active on twitter when they worked with Namco because that company always post news daily unlike Sony who is very quiet until the announcement.
News on console God Eater is coming on Oct 7. From a livestream on July 17 the producer Tomiyama-san hold a Dualshock 4 controller in his hand when they talked about GE orchestra live. So I guess new God Eater won't look different from Code Vein assets. They are using vanilla PS4 as base.
Anyway, more hype now for TGS!

I see you, Verendus, we see you now.
"These are the JRPGs that SCEJ/A will be involved with in some form and shape. You don't have to worry about them being cancelled."
JRPG3= something that will appeal to fans and they just started in 2015. Here I thought it was a JAPAN Studio project. Wild Arms is out of the picture now. SCEJ/A is just not only about first party. Verendus played with us like a damn fiddle again.
SIEJ announce with a trailer for two days ago. An RPG for PS4/Vita. More info on 10/26.
Atsushi Morita at the TGS conference 2017:
"We are committed to get all games on our platform(s). We are half way in this gen and there are stuff we have to do and stuff that must do."
So they got a mainline MH. A franchise well represented on 3DS. And now Metal Max. Last mainline Metal Max was on 3DS in 2013. Developer was Cattle Call which is more mediocre than Media Vision.
However, Media Vision was looking for PS4 staff on 1/31 2017:
    "Long seller fantasy RPG series"
We thought it was Wild Arms but Yoshida said back in 2015 they have no first party jrpgs in development. And even confirmed this year JAPAN Studio's main focus in the recent years have been about to create titles that could become global hits.
Going from their major presence at Sony's TGS booth:
    Freedom Wars 2013
    Bloodborne 2014
    Uncharted 4 2015
    Horizon Zero Dawn 2016
    Monster Hunter World 2017
    ----------------------
    Project P2 (FW successor) 2018
    JAPAN Studio's open-world project 2019
Huge blow to Nintendo if Metal Max 5 comes to PS4/Vita and skip Switch. New mainline Inazuma Eleven that used to be Nintendo exclusive is also now coming to PS4, iOS and Android.
Metal Max 1 and 2 started on Super Famicom. Metal Max 3 was on DS in 2010. Metal Max 4 on 3DS in 2013. Metal Max 5 on PS4 and Vita in 2018? To be fair, this turn-based style fits Media Vision. It's on a small/mid-tier budget.

(WARNING! Long comment with rich info)
Sorry, not last update. TGS has given more details on exhibitors list.
Shift is in the business solution area this year. I haven't seen them there in recent years since they started to work on God Eater with Namco when Sony abandoned their partnership when JAPAN Studio was mismanaged and lacked a studio director. And also fell behind technology.
Business solution area is for B companies sharing development tool, middleware engine, solution for online games, etc. Pretty much technology stuff. And Allan Becker told IGN they have many games in production made with new technology in mind.
Dimps is in the business meeting area. It's not going well for them. SAO is the most low budget you can get on consoles.
But still, that list is hard to figure out what Sony will announce since those studios they collaborate on games don't have a booth in the general exhibition area. But see Shift at TGS is a good sign though. I think FW2 began pre-production after Yoshizawa left JS on March 31 2015, the Japan tour ended 30th March, that's when they had received all feedbacks from users. GE Resurrection went gold in September 2015 and that's where 100% Shift was free to begin production on FW2. Even staff who didn't worked on FW and was busy with GE2 like Yuta Yamamoto. It was 40% Shift on FW. Their production staff was on GE2. That's why FW was a mess at launch. Sony figured that out later.
Yoshida skipped TGS last year because the line-up was full and there weren't much ready to announce yet. One year in production is not enough. But 2 years, now we are starting to get somewhere. Since it's not a new IP I predict almost 4 years in production with a big team until it will release. So after announcement you have to traditionally wait for 2 more years.
As for God Eater, that will be developed by Bandai Namco Studios from now on. Assistant producers on GE2RB are separated on two big different projects: Keita Iizuka on Code Vein, producer of Project Vein and Yuya Tomiyama on GE3, producer of Project G.E. Bandai Namco has invested and expanded the growth of the IP and adding a new IP and mobile. GE is mainstream in Japan. It has a GE magazine, GE anime in collab with Playstation Video, GE cafe and now even a concert. Only a matter of time we see God Eater Festival.
Remember Namco Tales Studio was absorbed into Bandai Namco Studios. I think GE is bigger than Tales now. Gold Prize for GE, GE2, GE2RB at Playstation Awards. Selling more than 500k copies in Japan/Asia. You sell more than 500k for an expansion, that is impressive. Plus, Shift wasn't there even if they worked on GE2RB. They were busy with FW2 in Dec 2015. Yasui at PS Awards 2010 and Yamamoto at PS Awards 2014.
    Anyway,
FW2 has advanced longer in development than GE3.
Strange that GER had a cero rating D in Japan. Is that still rated T for teen in the West? C is 15 and D must be 17. Yeah, that's still teen but here in Europe the age restriction is pegi-12.

  • @TheGoldenPS1
    @TheGoldenPS1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I was very confident that Sony has invested in a continuation on FW. I'm even more confident after Code Vein and a new God Eater.
Shift didn't retweeted when the new God Eater was announced nor did they do with Code Vein. Their last post was Aug 10 2016 when they wished fans a happy summer 2016 with a pic of a diving female character from FW. They are always active when they are involved with a project.
They were part of GER and GE2RB but those were just small side-projects. GE team is now doing GE Online, Code Vein and new God Eater simultaneously. You can tell the team has grown exponentially after all Awards they have received over the years. GE team is now Project Vein and Project G.E. The games are now developed by Bandai Namco Studios. GE team has gone major to join Project Tekken and Project Aces in the family who supports Xbox with worldwide release.
This leaves the door open for FW. I'm very sure that promo tour in Japan across all 47 prefectures to visit game stores and hear feedbacks from users was to improve on the successor because it was already limelighted by Yoshida. Toshiyuki Yasui was on that tour.
There was also a rumor on 2ch that ForwardWorks was working on FW. But this could be similar to Everybody's Golf and Wild Arms they let another studio to work on the reboot/spin-off while the original studio works on mainline for console.
Allan Becker said in April 2014 that the key for JS is to collaborate with a creator rather than a studio when it comes to external projects. This has been true with Keiji Inafune for Soul Sacrifice, Toshiyuki Yasui for Freedom Wars, Miyazaki for Bloodborne and Mori-san for Everybody's Golf.
Akifumi Kaneko for Wild Arms and Media Vision will develop the game wouldn't surprise me. He works on mobile and console. Sony is known for trolling in the month of December: PC version of FFVII at PSX 2014, Crash Bandicoot t-shirt at PSX 2015 and WA for mobile to celebrate its 20th anniversary. What are they going to troll this year?
Allan Becker said this year they are building technology back up with PS4. They have plenty of new titles in development that are made with new technology in mind.
And Yoshida said to Dengeki Playstation readers in the magazine early this year about 2017 ambitions they have a great number of still unannounced titles in production. Look forward to their announcements, he said. He did refer to authentic japanese titles because they still have Japanese Playstation fans to satisfy whether or not the local market's size is limited.
Will Freedom Wars be announced this year? I doubt it. Not in the right time yet. 2018 is the year it would be a perfect time for it with even a bigger install base.
With install base growing they understand they have to invest into more larger and larger experience going forward to meet expectations of the players. All small games are getting out of the way and the bigger guns are saving for last.
Knack is small. Gravity Rush 2 is small. The Last Guardian is a left-over from PS3. The Tomorrow Children is a flop. Bloodborne is in-between. Everybody's Golf is a multiplayer game but not a cooperative big game like Freedom Wars. Wild Arms might be decently big. Yoshitaka Murayama's project may be big like a spiritual successor to Suikoden. Miyazaki's new IP is probably bigger than Bloodborne.
And then their ambitious flagship title, PS4's swan song. Creative director is Teruhiro Shimogawa. Hopefully it's similar to Legend of Dragoon.

Rotten Cheese I find it interesting though.
Shift used God Eater character in the past when they wished fans happy holidays. Kei Watanabe drew two female characters from FW for Sony when Playstation celebrated its 20th anniversary. And Miwa Deura drew Toro and that black cat. She is the one behind Propa-kun's design and she works now at SIE JAPAN Studio.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kei Watanabe drew that character for Shift, who else would do it. It's hard to copy his artstyle.
I don't think that has anything related to FW's continuation. If we are going to look deeper we have to look at interviews with JAPAN Studio and Shift's twitter account as a whole.
Allan Becker told IGN in April 2014 the studio is much more open to new technology and more prepared. He repeated that in late June 2017 and hinted at new projects in development are being made with new technology in mind and they are building technology back up with PS4. He could, of course, not go into detail.
If you compare to JS in the past they were never ready with staff, they were always reliant on third party studios to do the development work. It's a risk Sony also takes. Compare to Nintendo who is more careful with quality this didn't paid off. So many titles with sub 80 on metacritic. The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 scored above 80. TLG was handled by genDESIGN on game design. Similar position Shift had with Freedom Wars.
Soul Sacrifice scored 77 and FW scored 73. In the same ball park as Wild Arms 3~5.
SS and FW were not handled by JAPAN Studio on production development. It is much easier to oversee the quality if production development is done in-house. Game design doesn't have the dominated position, a director controls that. In this case, Tsukamoto-san was a director and a executive director on FW. JAPAN Studio should have had more control over the project than they had.
You can now see why Sony wasn't satisfied with Dimps. Their direction led FW to a disaster launch along with Yoshizawa's poor managing of the team. Shuhei Yoshida doesn't like unfinished projects. Even the head of external development group, Masami Yamamoto, mentioned Shift with FW at one of their latest live shows. They are so embarrased to even mention Dimps.
At National Entertainment Festival Yoshida answered a question from a Famitsu/Dengeki Playstation reader. He was asked if SIEJA will invest into RPGs for the Japanese audiences again. In recent years they have focused on titles that could become global hits. I guess that includes SS and FW. And FW is having a global ranking in the game so it was meant for players across the globe.
If this is the direction Yoshida wants JS to continue I welcome that. But only authentic games. And less The Tomorrow Children, Knack, Puppeteer. Western artstyle belongs in western studios.
I also changed my mind. I think Sony will announce two new games from JAPAN Studio at TGS. Their line-up is empty after New Minna no Golf is out on Aug 31. Last year they had The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and New Minna no Golf to come out. Marketing comes first. Three previous announced regular TV titles are enough for Yoshida until he announces new titles.
It's possible they will use staff who worked on The Last Guardian and The Tomorrow Children and put them on FW. They have now online producers since TTC. And guess what, quality scenario director on FW was total control team on TTC and Tokuou Ohnuma worked again as associate producer but he was assigned as producer on FW after Yoshizawa left JS. Yoshizawa probably felt Ohnuma was close to the franchise just as him.
This production development team has no connection to Project Siren, Knack team or that new team who is working on an ambitious title and possibly JS flagship title next to Legend of Dragoon which was the last ambitious project before the studio was behind the technology.
JAPAN Studio has two rules. 1) Collaborate with creators.
      2) One third party studio at max.

    • @RottenCheese
      @RottenCheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Dimps is working on the SAO fatal bullet game across 3 platforms. Shift seems to be occupied with their God Eater console project.
I don't think FW2 will be announced anytime soon even if it has been in development. Most likely will get a Gravity Rush treatment with Bluepoint games handling a ps4 port in the near future.
And again, one can only hope Sony hasn't forgotten about their Japanese IPs.

    Exhibitors List TGS 2017
    - SHIFT
What I predicted last week seems to happen. Kinda strange it's only developers behind bigger console games that mentions in the list. From Software in 2014 and 2015 regarding Bloodborne.
Well, Verendus said JRPG3 was made for fans. So I don't expect a massive project of Wild Arms. Sony is staying old school like with Crash Bandicoot. Yoshida said if they were making a game for Japanese audiences it's going to be on a smaller budget. Think of a small budget like Gravity Rush 2. I don't think MediaVision is more capable than Shift and Fromsoft to go for a larger audience.
But was Wild Arms 3, 4, 5 any near Dark Chronicle or Rogue Galaxy in terms of budget?

    • @RottenCheese
      @RottenCheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Old School? I can think of Ape Escape and it makes sense because they did a new years tease some time ago.

    • @TheGoldenPS1
      @TheGoldenPS1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Rotten Cheese Regarding Ape Escape Yoshida teased a dinner with original Team Ape in early 2015 on his twitter. I can definitely see it being announced next TGS. 20th anniversary is coming up in 2019. Back in 2013 when Verendus teased a big in-house JRPG that was in the plans he mentioned that this gen is going to be more focus on SCE WWS thanks to JAPAN Studio and it's going to be great with new IP, existent IP and maybe a few blast from the past.
So yeah, Freedom Wars 2, Wild Arms and maybe that Level-5 project for PSVR at TGS from first party.
Their strategy is unproven titles from internal JS whether it's small or AAA will be announced at PSX (as I think next time Project Siren's new IP will be announced at PSX).
External titles are at TGS and E3 (proven reputation in the West like Ueda and Miyazaki).
What do you think the odds are for Valkyria Chronicles 4? Hokuto ga Gotoku was confirmed to use 0/Kiwami engine. I want Sega's internal Valkyria team return to Canvas engine. I really hope they played a damn fiddle with us on Revolution. Raita is leagues ahead of those character designers of Revolution. Expand the Valkyria IP even more this year is music to my ears. MediaVision doesn't have the talents and capacity to pull something off on the scale of first Valkyria Chronicles.

Knack 2 is the biggest bomba since Puppeteer. I'm not only talking about Japan but everywhere.
What did we learn from Puppeteer? Nothing. They kept going with this bullshit until the consumers said no. Enough is enough. This is not doing any good for JAPAN Studio's internal teams.
I told Yoshida on twitter it's time to be serious on your projects. Bloodborne showed that. A fusion of East/West with high production values is what going to receive well by the public. Not this bullshit being full japanese like Gravity Rush because it doesn't make sense for West. And this way how to appeal to West only like Puppeteer, Knack and The Tomorrow Children doesn't make sense for anyone.
There are very talented devs at JS but they are doing this low key stuff instead. Wtf!
Now it makes sense why they never announced Freedom Wars successor at TGS. Becker wants FW to grow in the west. And with that they have to make it more user friendly for a larger audience. Like more cinematic, higher production, better in-depth customization/character creation, more life to the story and good interaction between characters. They need to strike a balance. The art style has to find the perfect medium. It's not easy but it will work.
They have a lot to prove now after so many low key releases. They need to hit it with a bang now. A remake of SOTC by Bluepoint doesn't counts.
We need more of the caliber of Bloodborne releases. Top notch high quality people wants to buy.
    - Sony mascot fighter by Game Arts.
    - Miyazaki/From Software's new IP.
    - Freedom Wars successor by Shift.
    - RPG by Soul Sacrifice staff at JS.

I don't think Mr. Yoshida is the right person to complain to. Maybe you must find a way to reach Mr Becker or maybe Tokuou Ohnuma. Perhaps even Mr. Atsushi Morita somehow. Freedom War's Artstyle is fine as is, at least to me. They do not need to drastically change anything Art style wise. Cell shaded games don't work in the west? "Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild" would like to have a word with you~

Rotten Cheese Yoshida is president of SIE WWS. He if anyone has something to say about greenlighting first party projects. Atsushi Morita is president of SIEJA who is dealing with third party partners. Cygames partnership was his own work since he become president after Kawano. He just took over what Kawano started with PS4 like MHW from Capcom.
Becker is studio director, he is the one who is organising the teams and the studio. He is in charge of technology updates like a new engine for example.
You probably misunderstood my statement. I didn't say they should change the art style completely, just strike a balance between celshading and realistic backgrounds for FW successor. Kinda like Code Vein but with your own style.
Gravity Rush didn't appeal to anyone. This comic visual novel style as cutscenes doesn't make sense for west. It didn't sold and the gameplay was not great either. And Knack and The Tomorrow Children were too much western in the art style. Ugly characters.
But I have high hopes after what Becker told IGN on late June. They have new titles in the works that are made with new technology in mind since Bluepoint is using their own engine for SOTC and not JAPAN Studio's new in-house engine and technologies.
PGW is coming up on 10/30. Not normally does Sid Shuman hype up a conference since E3 and PSX 2016. But PGW is not something you want to miss he said. Looking back in the past, Gamescom and PGW, are very Europe/Japan focused, and PSX is America/Japan focused.
I hope they announce the new Sony mascot fighter by Game Arts so we can finally get that out of the way and be more confident that the other titles I mentioned in my previous comment are coming.
Miyazaki/FS at PSX 2017. Freedom Wars successor at E3 2018. Save The Earth RPG with similar art style to Soul Sacrifice (rumored) at PSX 2018.
Like I said before, FW successor won't come out until summer 2019, multiplayer games are also the trend nowadays for AAA, makes sense for E3. We are not going to get PS5 until holiday 2020. In the first half of 2020 they are going to release their last blockbuster titles and Death Stranding will be the swan song. There is no way it's coming out in 2018 or 2019. June/July 2020 for a very story driven open-world.

OMG Somone actually agrees with me with the ugliness of the characters in The Tomorrow Children! Those things can traumatise children so hard.
What is this new Sony mascot fighter, Knack 3?

Rotten Cheese The new Sony mascot fighter has been in the works for a long time since Verendus mentioned it in 2013 which makes sense. Playstation Allstars Battle Royale wasn't what Sony hoped for so they gave up on that for Santa Monica Studio. Allan Becker was moved from Santa Monica Studio to JAPAN Studio on early 2012 before they launched the game. Shannon Studstill took over Santa Monica Studio as the new studio director. Superbot Entertainment formed by Shannon Studstill had huge layoffs when partnered away from Sony on early 2013.
Becker's work at JAPAN Studio is Bloodborne, The Last Guardian ported to PS4 with Puppeteer engine (not reworked), Gravity Rush 2 moved from Vita to PS4 on early 2014, Everybody's Golf, Knack 2 and sadly, The Tomorrow Children. Mediocre small games except for Bloodborne which was a home run hit for JS since Legend of Dragoon.
When we look at the future, we can clearly see where Becker is going with JS. Removing the idea of having three studios working on a AAA game we saw with Vita for Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars. He came there after and acknowledged the chaos without control and a studio director.
It's a no brainer to think Allan Becker wants to give a new Sony mascot fighter (brawler) a second attempt. Especially with Game Arts being radio silent for the past 5 years. They launched Dokuro on Vita on 7/5 2012 and then nothing after when they were very active with GungHo as publisher.
We shall see today if Shift is out or in on GE3. We are promised a meaty info this time. If not, they are working on FW successor because Yuta Yamamoto is now working at BNS. They updated their twitter the day before Sony's TGS conference that they will launch a puzzle game, Wonder Flash, on smartphones the same day. For the first time ever they started to have tweets in japanese and english language. If FW successor is a success and we go into PS5 I can clearly see Sony will buy them when AAA production is going to be more demanding on PS5 and more resources and staff. They have put themselves in a situation like Bend and Sucker Punch to make ambitious game despite being a small team. And the future leads more into popularity of multiplayer games and Sony needs a studio who has multiplayer in their DNA for variety.
Soul Sacrifice staff have not worked on a game since the release of SS Delta on 3/2 2014. Teruhiro Shimogawa from Comcept hasn't worked on a game since then either. Level-5 acquired Comcept this year. Game designer on Soul Sacrifice, Anna Nakamura, used to work at Marvelous AQL, but she hasn't worked on a game either. She retweets stuff from Playstation Japan news and JAPAN Studio. It doesn't tell on her information who she works for now. Development director, Yasunori Hirata, at Marvelous has been radio silent too. Development director #2, Ittetsu, at Marvelous was game designer on Monster Hunter Stories right after SS Delta.
So something is cooking behind the scenes at JAPAN Studio and probably Becker's secret weapon like God of War team was for Santa Monica Studio on PS2. Yoshida sounded so excited about the project at E3 2015.
Producer Teruyuki Toriyama who actually was assistant producer on SS/SS Delta has teased he will deliver an ambitious title. He teased last year as well with mentioning his project but also other ambitious projects are progressing smoothly at the same time. It can also help a bit when JAPAN Studio has recruited a new sound creator. Very young one they introduced this year on their livestream. Takao Miratsu was their last and only sound creator that passed away in 2006 by liver cancer. Composer on Jumping Flash series and Legend of Dragoon. Since then up until now they haven't had a sound creator.
You can only suspect what Sony's masterplan is. Nintendo fanboys (Switch fanboys) are now making fun of Sony who doesn't care about their interactive movies from western first party and say the only thing you gave me for 4 years was a Dark Souls clone without a shield (they are referring to Bloodborne).
I can see why AAA has taken more time for JAPAN Studio. If Shift worked on FW as new IP on PS4 from the get go we wouldn't have waited this long for games and be too reliant on Miyazaki and From Software. They can't crank out AAA every second year for Sony. Bend had this issue too. First stuck with Vita then Sony tells them to move to PS4 on early 2013. Now we won't get Days Gone until spring 2019. Fanboys are still mocking on the frame drops at this E3. They announced it too early.

As usual. Your replies are always so long, I like it.
So that's what you meant when you said Mascot fighter. I thought you were referring to a new Playstation Mascot character being in the works.
