FIX A DEAD UPS- DON'T THROW IT AWAY

I was hoping for an actual repair. Batteries are wear items and will be replaced many times in the life of a good UPS.
I have on ancient Best Power UPS from 1993 that finally died. The logic board is no longer responding. It could still be simple repair of something like capacitors, but I already have more UPS units than I currently need.
On my last APC unit, I got a pair of individual batteries and rebuild the battery unit using the old hardware. (Other than a new Anderson PowerPole as that unit had severely corroded and swelling batteries).
However, I do agree with the main point of the video. Many "dead" UPSs can be made useful with just a battery replacement.

Really common problem with lots of UPS, we used to get plenty through for repair and the very first thing to do was inspect the batteries and load them up with some combination of car bulbs, way more than 50% of the units had batteries which would show as good with a simple voltemeter check but show up as faulty as soon as they saw some load.

I hate devices that throw obscure error codes, instead of just displaying "poor battery capacity" or something the user can understand.

      Exactly. Re-think APC...

A car battery can be adapted to ups xs 1500???

I split apart the batteries, removed each from the center adapter and replaced with two Duracell Ultra (DURA12-9F2 9Ah AGM) batteries. Wish you would have looked at the individual batteries and done similar. Is there another way, or a specific tool to do a load test using a meter or is it wire in a car light?

Interesting. I just replaced the batteries on my APC 1500 Pro and then 3 days later got error F02 ....then 2 days later turned it on and got F06. I will see if I can get these batteries replaced.

Yeah, but where's the part where you fully charge the battery, then commission the system with a rundown test? Mine works just fine until I disconnect the mains while under load. I didn't see that test on the video.
It's a 1500 right? (what is that? 1500 VA? 1500W? is that full rated continuous load?) What should the minimum battery voltage be under 'full' load? If I hook it up to a 1000VA purely resistive load bank, what is the maximum vdrop the unit will be 'happy' with?
Also, why does the unit throw some odd-ball 'F' alarm instead of a BATTERY alarm?

I have F06 error , any idea to fix it

Yesterday I had F06 error, no output supply even on direct power... I did some random things like I disconnected all plugs, switched off ups... pressed Reset on back for 10 secs, pressed power off for 10 secs... switched ON power supply (not switched on ups) for few hours and then when I switched on ups ... it started normally ... but the battery backup is very low, its just 7-9 minutes... may be the battery is bad.. but its working for now lets see how long it'll go...

Had a Triplite 2200 new w/6 (!) new batteries that lost charge. Batteries needed water - added it. Then started charing and discharging. Each cycle resulted in increased capacity. After 40 cycles, capacity was near spec. So never used old batteries that dried out can actually be recovered. No happy to see APC making batteriest proprietary.

Dude I used mine for a while had no problems then all of a sudden get the F02 error code so I take the battery out and it wasn’t even put in the right way it was backwards. Had no clue this could even power up without the battery in correctly

Great video, the units are still good if you change the batteries. They also become pretty useless after a few years and will need new batteries

    • @station240
      @station240 3 ปีที่แล้ว

APC design their UPS's for maximum runtime, that is the sole reason you need new batteries after a few years.
You can get ever more power stored in batteries if you overcharge them, sure it boils the battery acid and eats holes in the casing.
source: I've dug thru an entire pallet of ex APC UPS batteries, only 10% didn't have obvious holes in the casing, bulges or splits.

That's what it's supposed to look like. Quite simply. Probably one of the pack's batteries was defective,
which is why the pack's output voltage dropped during power consumption.
