Hey Matt, anyway you guys can implement in the Viper options main menu the ability to set countermeasure programs, such as chaff/flare quantity per program, such as a makeshift DTC, such as like in the JF17 options.
I'm still probably going to manually edit the config file, not sure I can be bothered to set this up on every single flight especially on high death rate PVP servers.
Another great video and new feature from ED Crew, nice sneaky peeky of AG HMCS ;) Can we also count on update of RWR symbology? I mean dash for AA threats to finally distinguish SA15 from F-15? :)

Isn't semi-auto supposed to choose program based on the threat? I saw it dropping flares against SA-2. And should AUTO-mode have "Consent"-switch in CMS?
@@oppotato5440 I wasn't sure which ones had that system, if any f-16, but our current one you have to switch the program manually Edit: let me rephrase, im not sure which f-16 has the same interface as the a-10, but I know there is a model that does)
The onboard ECM works great on the hornet, I hope the viper's ECM will be as functionnal! I like where this is going and hope it is applied to other DCS modules (Mirage, MiG-21...)
@@thomasbessis2809 Exactly. This seems to be the direction ED is going with a lot of their updates. They're not just improving their own stuff, but appear to be adding functionality to the core game that should allow existing and future 3rd party developers to more easily implement these things in their modules without having to make them from scratch which produces individual solutions and individual bugs.
Update as tested: In SEMI mode, CMS Aft gives consent to dispense. In AUTO mode, CMS Aft re-enables AUTO mode dispensing. But in both cases described above, CMS Aft will not use the selected PRGM (1-4) but release chaff only (no flares) since the RWR/ECM cannot tell if an IR missile is inbound and MWS is not functional in this F-16 block. When dispensing is ongoing in SEMI or AUTO mode, CMS Fwd (PRGM 1-4) or CMS Left (PRGM 6) will only work after dispensing completes. So if you need flares, avoid CMS Aft in SEMI or AUTO mode.
The JF-17 includes the ability to set a CMDS default profile and more from the configuration menu. Will these be implemented for either the Viper or Hornet?
Like Wags stated, the default programs are VERY liberal with the CM's. Hell, the slap button (which is program 5 on the DED list) will dispense 20 of each by default when you hit the button! What I do is as part of my preflight set up is to set program 5 to release 5 of each when the slap button is hit. I have the slap button bound to my throttle and I leave the program selector in MANual and the number on 1. If you're in auto, when you get locked up by anything, even if it's not a threat at the moment, it will start pumping out the chaff and flares at a staggering rate. You will be bingo in a minute. Choose a button on your controller that is easy and natural for your fingers to reach. Otherwise you will get distracted and you will forget to use them
Hi Matt, small point, contrary to what you said near the start, according to the F-16C early access manual (released 24 Oct 21), page 312, "left" on the CMS switch has "no function", not program 6 as you stated. For that reason I have my left set to the slap function. Have I misunderstood ?
I was testing this a couple weeks ago and I think you are right. I am also binding the slap button instead of CMS left as that doesn't seem to do anything.
So can anyone tell me, what is the difference between manual mode and semi automatic? Either way you have to choose which program to use, and either way you press to dispense. I get auto is just gonna dump whatever is selected. I really was expecting the a10c style implementation, as the system visuals and controls are almost identical. That system does select the appropriate CM based on the situation, and in semi you choose when to dispense
In Manual mode the system does not tell you when you 'should' drop. It does in Semi-Auto. You get the 'Counter' audio cue to tell you that you should probably release some countermeasures. It gives you the audio cue again when the selected program ends and the threat is still there. The choice is still yours if you want to deploy or not. In Auto mode it will basically drop everytime you hear the systems say "Counter". Thats the difference between Semi-Auto and Auto.
Is UHF/VHF on the HUD really new? It's just the DED data switch to the right doing it's thing. I've never used it for anything other than fuel, so I don't know if the radio on the DED didn't show before.
Will the Viper return to having the larger flares with this update? I believe it's still using the smaller flares from the Hornet from back when they were released, and as far as I'm aware it using the larger standard in operation.
@@DoradoFever No, the Viper uses the regular sized flares and can carry 60 along with 60 chaff in its buckets. When the new flares were released for the Hornet, the Viper erroneously got the new, smaller flares. I'm asking if this mistake will be rectified in this update or soon.
@@tinglydingle do you even know what type of flares you are talking about...? Because either it is the larger MJU-7 that can only hold 15 per module or M206 that can hold 30 per module. So what do you mean exactly by "smaller flares" not like we even have the option to select the flare type or overt versus covert flares.
@@DoradoFever I don't know the model names for each type of flare, only their relative size, which I agree is a little ambiguous. At the moment, the Viper is using the newer flares that were introduced for the Hornet several months ago. As far as I'm aware this is a mistake, as it's more accurate for it to use the older, larger flares that it had before.
