    -------
    I unbox and test out a new piece of gear that has just arrived! Well, new to me. The unit has actually been out since about 2012.
    Side Notes:
    1. The tube in the tube overdrive is not working, and the unit will have to be returned. Sweetwater tech support told me the units are out of stock and may take several weeks or months to arrive. In the meantime, he said I'm welcome to keep using this unit, until the new one arrives.
    2. I said the unit did not come with an owner's manual. I was wrong-- a paper copy was at the bottom of the box, which I found 2 or 3 days later. However, a downloadable PDF copy is still available. Do not mix up the PDF with the one for the 2101 Mk1. The functions are different.
    3. Any toggle pedal (like a damper pedal), will work to turn the Leslie from SLOW to FAST or visa-versa. The small Hammond foot switch is a little light and flimsy, but nice that they included it.
    4. If you run the Leslie to the organ 11-pin, then the FAST/SLOW foot switch should be plugged into the organ jack. If you run the Leslie to the organ 1/4", then the FAST/SLOW foot switch HAS TO BE plugged into the Leslie jack.
    5. When the Leslie is put in the STOP position, the horn rotor will slowly creep into the same position each time-- diagonal from right-front (when looking at it from the speaker mesh side (opposite the side with all the buttons and knobs)) to left-rear.
    6. In a Leslie Speaker, only one horn is the actual speaker. The other horn is a dummy horn designed to simply be counterbalance for when it's rotating.

    When you hit brake (Leslie stop) the horn will creep to a fixed position (front) to make the sound character consistent. It's a feature, not a quirk.

    One of the clearest 2101 videos I have seen so far. Thanks for this.

      You’re welcome. I noticed that most previous 2101 vids were at least 5 to 11 years old, so I figured if it was new to me, it warranted a new video. Glad you liked it.

      Thank you glad you like it. The only thing that might have been cooler is a 2103- which is the wood model.
      But then again, wood is more likely to show nicks & scratches, so maybe it’s just as well it’s black.
      Thank you for watching.

      Thank you. The unit I received on Jan 29th (date i recorded the vid) turned out to have a defective tube overdrive section. Apparently a bad circuit board. A whole new Leslie is being shipped out to me some time this next week.

    Awesome video. Quick question: can you plug another keyboard into that puppy? With a 1/4 inch standard cord?

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can. You can plug it into either the stationary 1/4 inch, or the rotating Leslie 1/4 inch. Though bear in mind, with the 2nd choice, both keyboards would be dependent on the same Leslie control. Thank you for watching.

    Hi B3_Burner, I found out the Leslie Studio 12's horns only play sound from one horn while the other horn is use for aesthetics and balancing. Do you know if the Leslie 2101 MKII plays from both horns? Thanks for the unboxing and playing video. It is very helpful!

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching. Yes with 2101 the same is true as with a traditional Leslie. The sound only comes out one horn, the other is for balance only.
      Note- You wouldn’t want the sound out both horns. It would ruin the momentary effect of the single horn taking 360° to come around again.

      Once upon a time oh say 65 years ago I decided that that if both horns were working it would be much louder..what a dope!

    • @B3burner

      Hi Peter, and thanks for watching. I believe my drawbar settings were 666 666 868 on the upper keyboard, and 626 200 000 on the lower. My 16’ pedal drawbar was probably set to 2, with the 8’ at 0.
      There was a heavy amount of leakage in that preset, from how I set the tone wheel function.

      Point well taken, but the internal Leslie sim can get lost in a PA mix on stage. Mic'ing the box improves it a bit more. Thank you for watching.

    Congratulations to the Leslie 2101 MK2. Just got a 4 years old used one in combination with Hammond SKX (11 Pin cable) and hooked up rotary low output via mixer to a small PA like you did with the Roland KC550. It sounds really good overall. Because I had no chance to compare with other users may I ask you a question. I use my in a small studio and therefore i find the internal fan is loud
    and more important you discribe that tube overdrive is not working. Does it not work at all or is it working and sounds really noisy although in standby. I found a Video in TH-cam discribing the same. th-cam.com/video/Pv_U0mXt2Ew/w-d-xo.html Maybe its normal but can you be so kind and compare it with your Leslie.

      Just got your reply. I need to run some errands this afternoon, but I’ll get back with you tonight.

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Okay, I'm back. Let me number my answers to your questions, in the order you asked them:
      1. I'll comment on a statement you made before you asked your first questions, just to point out another issue I may be having. When I plug the 1/4" cable into the "bass low rotor" output jack, and connect it to my Roland KC550 in, I swear I'm not hearing any bass rotation through the Roland... only stationary bass-- even when I only have the rotary volume knob up, and the stationary knobs all the way down.
      Any bass rotation my ears are hearing, I think is coming through the small bass speakers in the Leslie 2101, and NOT the Roland. I could be wrong, but I think I noticed this for the first time today, and I find it somewhat disturbing, because I don't think it's supposed to be like that.
      It's one more thing I'm going to ask tech support at Sweetwater-- since they're sending me a new 2101 anyway.
      However, if I plug the 1/4" into the "rotary out" jack (to the right of the "bass rotor" jack), I hear the rotating bass in the Roland, but at the expense of also sending the mids and highs to the Roland, making the upper horn on the 2101 sound very weak and anemic. Not a good compromise at all.
      2. The internal hardly makes any noise for me at all. I find if it's making noise, it's slight, and/or being drowned out by slight signal hiss, the sound of the horn motor, or the sound of my noisy mini refrigerator in my music room. If the fan's that loud, you may want to check the unit for dust or overheating. Maybe the fan is having to work too hard, or is on its way out.
      Does the fan raise in RPM's, like a computer fan when you're playing a really CPU or GPU intensive video game, or it's just a one tone loud sound?
      3. For me, the tube overdrive doesn't work AT ALL. The orange tube doesn't even light up. No setting of the overdrive amount either standby or not, will make it work. In fact, turning the overdrive knob (the one on the right) up even just a smidge past off, immediately cuts signal through the rotary volume. However, as an interesting note, if I turn the stationary volume knobs up, the signal will sound, no matter where I set the overdrive knob. But that's a moot point anyway, because the stationary speakers aren't connected to the overdrive circuit at all.
      4. The 2101 in the the video:
      Okay, I noticed a few things about his video. One aside from the noise he was getting due to his overdrive issues, the signal noise is always going to be slightly louder going 1/4" out of the organ to the 1/4" rotary input. I think it's just a dirtier signal. I use the 11-pin from the organ, and it's stone silent. A nice, clean signal that's a joy to play with.
      He is obviously having some sort of issue with his tube overdrive function, but the issue is slightly different than mine. If you notice, he at least gets one tube on the left to light up, though the one on the right looks somewhat dark... maybe that's his problem.
      As for the noise, it's a lack of signal and the noise is what's taking its place (I presume). Honestly, I don't know for sure, but what I can say for sure is, I get nothing at all and my tubes are all dark. In that respect, he's getting more than I'm getting, but I also think mine is just a blown tube(s), and his is potentially more serious than that.
      I hope this helps. I'm glad we can talk about it.
