I bought a Ferris 400s ( mulching kit)..three years ago in Ireland and it’s breaking my heart as the mulch spits out in clumps and in no time the underside gets packed and eventually the blades get Jammed. I have to crawl under the deck to clear it. I will never touch a Ferris again..any thoughts..
Sorry to hear that. Is it only 21.5 hp? Do u cut with the chute block up or down? do u use high lift blades? Pick the deck up .25 when on thick wet grass. somthing dont sound right- i have never had my blades get jammed
@@rayrayslawnlandscape2008 thanks for your suggestions. I have the mulching kit installed and so the black rubber chute was taken off altogether the day I bought it in the garage....blades are high lift.. I have had to make a wooden ramp and carry it with me so that I can crawl under the deck and scrape the mulch from under the deck! This is great technology is it not in 2022 but it is the only thing I can do to keep the mower cutting. I’m thinking of patently it…seriously my heart is broken with this Ferris mower.
We purchased our Ferris IS1000Z Series on Mother’s Day 2006, we mow 10 acres with it. We keep it under cover and maintain it religiously. It has been a great mower! That being said, our “deck” is not holding up as well as we would like, hence my looking on TH-cam for other people with the same situation. It is not at a point that the mower is inoperable, but we want to replace the deck if possible.
Cutting below 3” will make any mower deck appear to cut great as it allows the deck to make a great seal with the yard and keep consistent airflows. Above 3.5” especially is a whole different story.
Yea ur dead right on there. We have rhe biggest ferris they make here on the farm. Had it 4 or 5 years now. The mower n engine is terrific but it cuts like crap. We have adjusted and played with the deck dozens of times with no change. Finally I said F it and dropped from our normal setting of 3.5" down to 2.75" and it mowed perfect. Blew my mind
@@rayrayslawnlandscape2008 in doing my research ( before i buy) it seems that the cut quality of the exmark is why it is the most popular. That being said, i dont cut for a living. I live on a farm and want something very dependable, comfortable in a rough yard, able to take a beating from that type of terrain. Was also looking at grasshopper.
@tonyviers-de9qi Well, if you got bumpy terrain and a lot of it, you can't go wrong with the ferris. $10-$12k or so should put you right where you need to be with the type of mower that you get. Ferris makes a damn good machine. If you got more than an acre, I would not go with any of their homeowner mowers. I will get the lower end commercial.
Out of my small army of 10-15 year old ZTR's I like my IS3000 61" the best. I mow most of my yards at 3.25". I like my 48" Scag Tiger cub for the ditches because it has the lowest seat center of gravity. But I have also modified all of my mowers with bigger engines and faster pulley setups. You can't beat the reliability of some of the great OG mowers.
All Ferris decks are not created equal. There are 2 ICD decks that don't look alike with the only difference being the sloped front but cut the same. What year is that deck?
Northern grass is a lot different than southern grass. That deck doesn’t cut worth a darn up here if it’s wet out and doesn’t leave a very clean cut when it’s dry
@@anthonyremley1575 here in the north it’s actually a mower deck we had to switch to because of high-volume grass clippings during wet conditions. Not sure what you’re dealing with but we have had terrible luck with a lot of mowers in the consistently similar to my scag mowers top two extreme conditions mowers I have to say are the scag and Ferris decks

I don't put a lot of faith in someone that makes blanket statements like that without showing proof. Too much personal bias on youtube with no evidence to back it up. That Ferris was a great buy. Sounds like jealousy to me just to keep it all the way a buck.
got to do what you you got to do :-) great job fixing the blower. Johnny Moe is a respectable guy in lawn care but it is only an opinion if that's really his comment. Opinions are like lips everybody has 1 and can be unpleasent at times of speaking lol Take care and God Bless
its not the ICD its the one before that- But man this mower is freaking powerful and cuts really really really good! laying stripes like the Exmarks but discharging the grass like a Scag! the best of both worlds. To me this Deck is Awesome coupled with the cat diesel. Been in this for 15 years so I know a thing or two about mower deck quality. It cuts better than my ScagTT2
Heck to I set the deck belt tension on this mower?
Isn't there a spring

yeah thats true
Here in Ga i Rarely cut at 3.5 - we are normally at 2.75-3.25. Above 3.5 usually on big untamed fields
@@rayrayslawnlandscape2008 I’m looking at 3.75-4in on average. Very few deck designs work well at that height or above.

I'm not really sure man I have only had a couple of ferris mowers. I like the x mart laser z x series 60

yep I watch Johnny
That's horse shit.. Ferris industries are located up North, that's where their business started and grew to what it is now.

if it's not the idc deck it won't discharge the grass good a clump in wet or thick. Jonny knows the snapper ferris decks he's demo or tested all
